Caitrin and Alasdair have enough complex back story to get anyone in trouble. Childhood best friends turned rejected suitor then takes a turn for the enemy to lover arc. If you like the complications of multiple suitors going after the same girl, this has got it in spades. It might even be my favorite one in the series! I’m going to miss this romp through medieval Scotland!
This is dramatic, heartbreaking and suspenseful. Alasdair and Caitrin friends in childhood, but then Alasdair realized that he was in love with her, but Caitrin was fascinated with his older brother Baltair. Alasdair proposed to Caitrin, but she turned him down, she told him that she wanted his brother. Alasdair was so heartbroken he ran off to join the war. Now he’s back, because Baltair is dead, and he wants revenge against Caitrin. He humiliates her, is rude and unfeeling towards her and in general does everything he can to make her miserable. He was not a likable person through most of the book, then he turned into a real bastard. I’m glad they figure out that they’re in love, but they almost lost their chance to be together. This is an exciting, fascinating and romantic series that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I enjoyed this book almost as much as Jayne Castle’s ‘The Outlaw’s Bride’, which I enjoyed very much. Some of the same comments I had would apply here as well, “Some romance novels portray the hero as always selfless, always honest, etc. – call me crazy but I like a little bit of true to life human interactive in my escapism fiction”. How can you escape into a story if you can’t believe it – if the character’s aren’t real? It would have been easy for an author to move much more quickly to HEA given the story line, but Ms. Castle took the time to give us a meatier, more meaningful path to the same end. I think the portrayal of the hero as a good man struggling with hardship and rejection yet still flawed with real imperfect feelings was well done. The Heroine had her own realistic but quite understandable flaws, despite her beautiful and long suffering nature. I loved that the mistakes made by H/h weren’t contrived or thoughtless, but rather something real people in love would make. I also love the redemptive elements of Ms. Castle’s stories and will be looking for more.

Revenge of the heart can sometimes be the most deadly. To the mind and soul if you cannot let it go it can ruin a person. That was the case with Alasdair MacDonald who was set on destroying the woman who had spurned his young heart and married his brother.
Caitrin married Alasdair’s brother years ago and lived to regret it. Treated cruelly with no love at all, she vowed to never marry after he died and focused on her son, who would take over one day. Hopefully Alasdair would never return. But oh he did and that is when things really turned difficult!
Even though a little dark, this is the story of past regrets and not letting go of feelings from years past. But even though he sought vengeance, there was more to Alasdair’s feelings than what appeared on the surface.
I was so focused to find out what would happen and truly thought there was no redemption for this couple, but they were meant for each other, if only the path would open! I have loved this series and really sorry it is coming to an end, but I know there will be more amazing stories coming from this author, who is one of my favorites!
Caitrin and Alasdair have a wonderful love – hate relationship. But as with most relationships built on that love wins out. They have a ways to go before they can claim their HEA but they do. Fun read.

Love and hate Alasdair has know both emotions when it comes too Caitrin his older brothers widow now he will know a new emotion vengeance. PERFECTION & AWESOME!

My first book of Jayne Castel’s was free on Amazon. Free books go one of two ways: why were they free or why did I spend my time reading this, Jayne’s book was the first. Reading her free book was a double edge sword, I found an author that I just had to read every book she had on Amazon because they were all so good which meant buying all of them. Fortunately, as of now, they are on Kindle Unlimited.
Whether you buy them or read them on KU, I recommend reading them all. I have loved every book Jayne has written in the historical romance genre and The Rogue’s Bride was one of the best.
Caitrin and Alasdair are perfect. Jayne has written each to be memorable and honest characters that stay with the reader long after the book ends. These two people overcome so much to archive their HEA that you can’t help but rejoice as it is happening.
You see a glimpse of the past, not sugar-coated like some authors, but real and true to what life was like during that time period. Jayne transports you back in time with her descriptive and articulate writing, she does this as well or better than any other author currently writing.
I 100% recommend reading this book to see love and history come to life on pages and to allow Caitrine and Alasdair become as real as your friends.

Book three in The Brides of Skye a well written story with a great storyline and a story that flowed smoothly from page to page. Widow Caitrin and her brother-in-law Alasdair MacDonald do not get off to a great start. He has come back from war and because she chose his brother over him he is going to make her pay for he slight, he is now laird of his brother’s territory. He takes her son and takes her back to her Father, where she must chose between three men. Will Alasdair admit he loves he or lose her forever? Read this story to find out. I recommend this book. Beautifully written.
Vengeance is never good it tears at the soul and Alisdair is going find that out when he returns home. It is really easy to see why Caitrin comes to hate Alisdair yet there is a thin line between love and hate. The whole book is beautifully written, some of the chapters were marvelous. I highly recommend this breathtakingly beautiful book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Another great book by the excellent author, Jayne Castel. I’ve now read several of her well-written books, including this Brides of Skye series, and every one was a treat. She immediately pulls you into a story and doesn’t let go. Her words flow effortlessly and she writes with such suspense, passion and heartbreak with great character development. The Rogue’s Bride is the third and final installment of this series and I’m sorry it is at an end. When you’re left wanting ‘more’ that is a dead giveaway to a top-notch author in my opinion! In the first two books we learned some of Caitrin’s backstory and her cruel, abusive marriage to Baltair, now deceased. In this character driven series end, we revisit Caitrin and meet Alasdair, Baltair’s younger brother, whose marriage proposal she rebuffed in favor of Baltair. It’s a story of misunderstandings, revenge and regret, second chances and forgiveness. I’m so happy Caitrin and Alasdair got their well deserved HEA. A highly recommended book by a highly recommended author.

4.5 Stars for The Rogue’s Bride by Jayne Castel is Book 3 and last book of the Bride’s of Skye Series.
This is an exciting and well-written story with action, adventure, complex and lovable characters, and with a tantalizing romance! This book completes the three sisters and their husbands together sharing their hea! Great series!
After the death of her cruel, abusive husband, Caitrin is left to run MacDonald territory mostly on her own. She finds she enjoys the responsibility and vows to never again allow another man to have such power over her. But then her late husband’s younger brother returns from war to take his place as heir to the MacDonald chieftainship and threatens Caitrin’s fragile position.
Alasdair MacDonald has never stopped thinking of Caitrin or really gotten over her since she spurned his proposal in favor of his older brother, nor has he forgiven her. Now he has the chance to exact his revenge by humiliating her and taking away her newfound semblance of peace.
The more he’s around Caitrin, the more Alasdair realizes his feelings for her are still there. But with Caitrin’s meddling father clamoring for her return to meet suitors for a second marriage, which she is fiercely opposed to, it seems there may be too much held over resentment on both sides for these two to ever resolve their feelings.
I’m not typically a fan of revenge tropes, but this one was quite well done. Caitrin delivered a blow to Alasdair’s fragile young man’s pride that sent him off to a war which left him haunted and changed. Similarly, she consigned herself to the marriage she thought she wanted with a man who turned out to be cruel beyond her imagination. Alasdair’s need for revenge is understandable but he went too far and at times I really didn’t think he’d earn forgiveness or trust from Caitrin, but the way he bared his soul to her was lovely. It was very brave of him and made this book very emotional, as well as a good examination of the fine line between love and hate. I thoroughly enjoyed the secondary characters as well and I’m excited to see what sort of follow ups or spin offs the author has next.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Brides of Skye all finally have their HEA:) What a wonderful series this was and Jayne Castel finishes off the series with Caitrin and Alasdair’s story. I love that the series takes place on the Isle of Skye, an island I have always been fascinated with.
Caitrin, who had married Alasdair’s brother (which ended up being a very unhappy marriage) is now a widow with a child and is more than happy to be chatelaine of the estate and free of being under a man’s rule. Then one day, Alasdair comes back home after being in the war, to take up his position of Chieftain. He had proposed to Caitrin a few years back and she had turned him down to marry his brother. He’s still bitter about it and vows to have his revenge.
Revenge is supposed to be sweet but that’s not how Alasdair ends up feeling about it…..in fact, his feelings for Caitrin are still there!! Their story is filled with heartwarming moments, revengeful moments, heartbreaking moments and passionate moments. It was also fun to see characters from the other 2 books show up in this story:)
