My marriage is one twisted lie. The man I thought I knew and loved, is a devil who hides his darkness behind a handsome face. I married him six months ago. I promised him forever. Now he wants to lead me down the path to forever in hell.I was foolish to think I could have it all— a flourishing career, a devoted husband who loves me inside out, and a life I’m excited to wake up to. But fairy tales … wake up to.
But fairy tales don’t exist, not when you’re married to a monster.
I want to turn back time, to unsay the words “I do”, but it’s too late.
I gave him my promise at the altar, now he’s obsessed with owning me.
His plan is to mold me into the perfect wife, but his version of perfect is distorted.
In order for me to become what he needs me to be, I have to forget myself.
I can’t do it. I can’t lose myself to a stranger.
But if I don’t obey, his darkness comes out to play, and the consequences could be deadly.
NOTE: This dark romance thriller contains dark themes, including violence of a sexual and physical nature that could trigger emotional distress in readers.

When you fall for the wrong guy…………….Not romantic at all
Perfect Liar is a very twisted story that is every woman’s nightmare. You fall in love with a wonderful guy, or at least you think he is, and have a whirlwind courtship that ends is a quick marriage. But soon after things start to change with him and what he expects from you. Before long things start going really south and you end up having to run if you can get away.
This book is really not a romance. Sure there was a bit of that at the beginning when you first see Bree and Hunter’s relationship. But then it digresses into a very twisted and dark story that is way more suspense than anything else. Be warned that there is a cliffhanger at the end which will undoubtedly be picked up in the next book in the Beautiful Ashes series.
I will say that I have read several of Dori Lavelle’s other books and liked them. I was just not loving this subject matter so much as it is more abusive than anything else. Let’s get serious and just say that Hunter has some major control issues and when he does not get Bree to do what he wants things go bad quickly. I am not talking just a spanking but way more extreme. But the writing by Dori is good and I can definitely appreciate that.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own so agree with them or not as everyone’s tastes are different.
Waking the sleeping monster
—>>> At the highest pinnacle of her career, just having made senior partner at her firm where she had put in so much blood, sweat, and tears over the past grueling years to come out as the only female in their top tier, Bree realizes that the man she thought would be her perfect partner in life turns out to be her greatest nightmare. Hunter is perfectly focused on claiming the woman he wants to have complete control over, and no lines are too serious to cross in order for him to achieve his goal.
Intoxicating. The twisted mind we find out Hunter has is out of this world. I can’t wait to see how the next book pans out, with the ending Bree gave him. Kept me on my toes, I absolutely love the way Dori writes these dark stories. Phenomenal!
This is an amazing plot that clearly demonstrates that appearances can be deceiving with a heavy price to them. Both characters are strong, however the male lead character, Hunter, is also a very dangerous man and Bree finds out the hard way just how dangerous he can be. Hunter wants to control Bree, but Bree wants to be who she is and continue with her career, the two clash, the outcome, well read the book and find out!

Bree and Hunter got married six months after meeting. Even though her friends tried to stop it to her he was her destiny. She thought she knew him but everything changed and he wasn’t the man she thought he was. This is a dark, twisted love story that pulled me in and had me captivated until the last page. Perfect Liar is book one of the Beautiful Ashes duet and I can’t wait to read what happens next.
Hunter’s seemingly changes overnight
This book draws you quickly into the story of Hunter and Bree who are celebrating their 6 month wedding anniversary. When Bree shares her hard-earned work news with Hunter, Hunter changes. Will Hunter’s idea of married life prevail? You have to read to find out and know it ends on a cliffhanger.
3,5* Quite good with dark theme
Suspenseful read with a little bit of darkness and cruel behaviour from hero side. I see him fully and completely as a villain character. I couldn’t quite fully connect with the characters and with the plot. Some of the events were to me a little bit forced but I won’t write which exactly as I don’t want to spoil the story. The cliffhanger at the end of the first part left me wanting more. There is a lot of unexplained events and I can’t wait to read second part and see how it all will unravel.
The blurb makes you think of a stalker-suspense, but it’s referenced as a dark romance. Let’s be honest, it’s a romance if there is feelings on both sides, even if it starts out in hate. This book starts with a loving marriage that ends in a twisted, dark place with bars on the windows and tears of fears running down there girl’s face. Nothing romantic about it. It’s definitely a suspense. It could probably be told in one book as this book was so short, but . . . Once again it leaves you in suspense not knowing what will happen next. The things this guy does. The girl, Bree, drives me crazy because it seems like all she does is egg him on. For a smart woman, she sure can’t seem to keep her mouth shut to save her life in some of these situations.

I really enjoyed this book. It was from light and good to dark with the snap of your finger. I however hated the ending, it ends on a cliffhanger but one that is like in the movies when the person does something and you think “you idiot why did you do that!” Regardless of the ending where Bree could of done things so much different it was still a great read! It’s fast paced and I didn’t want to put it down. You will be wishing for Hunters demise.
In Perfect Liar, Dori Lavelle delivers a deliciously dark story of obsessive love. Bree is a dedicated lawyer who hopes to become partner sooner rather than later. After a 6 month whirlwind courtship, she marries Hunter who, by all appearances, is the perfect man and husband. Appearances can be deceiving, however, as Bree quickly learns. Hunter wants her to fulfill her duties as his wife, while Bree’s career is the centerpiece of her present and future. When Bree doesn’t fall into line, he begins to show her what will happen if she doesn’t cooperate. After she makes partner, he is no longer her first priority and his monster side comes out. He is emotionally disturbed beyond measure and Bree is just beginning to find out how far he will go to keep her as his wife and under his control. She vows to leave the marriage and flees to safety after Hunter attacks her. He’s one step ahead of her, and right on her tail. Even as she lies in her hospital bed, recovering from her coma, Hunter takes advantage of her memory loss to create a false world for them to live in where he calls the shots and feeds her an alternate reality…his reality! Her old life, as she knew it, is over and the terror has just begun!
This is the first part of a duet. The author has written a psychological thriller with Hunter as the predator, and his wife Bree as the object of his obsession. Hunter’s character is along the lines of the men in Brothers After Dark. If you’re not familiar with those characters, you’re in for a twisted treat! Bree is a strong, intelligent woman who has just made partner in her law firm. She won’t be easy prey for Hunter, who is absolutely ruthless. I had my mouth open at the lengths he would go to-unbelievable! It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger per se, but the story obviously continues. This was a gripping page turner & I’ll definitely be reading the second half.

This was a really great read. I don’t usually read thrillers so I thought I’d give this a try, a pleasant surprise. I couldn’t put the book down. This book is a dark, twisted, suspenseful, thriller. The book is well written, and the suspense just kept me reading. I can’t wait to read the next book. It was a nice change of pace.
Another seriously messed up story, from the twisted mind of Ms. Lavelle! First chapter all normally boring, I mean married sex in the middle of the night {yawn} And then Bam! We are in the middle of a serious devious and frightening story! Bree wants to be a partner in her law firm, it’s all she’s worked hard for all her life, and everyone knows it. Apparently her hubby didn’t get that message. Because he’s harboring the dream of having the perfect “Mrs Cleaver” type wifey at home! And no matter what it takes…He’s going to get it! Please hurry with book two…this is getting so good!
The dark side of Ms. Lavelle is back!
When I found out she was writing a dark romance book I was thrilled!
And for good reason.
Perfect Liar starts of with a bang and ends with a bang.
And everything in between had me on the edge of my seat and my heart pounding.
Bree and Hunter had a whirlwind romance and six months later they are man and wife.
Hunters definitely of what a wife is and should be vastly differs from Bree.
I love Bree.
I thought she was one bada#$ female!
She rules her domain and rocks it with phenomenal confidence.
I loved that she doesn’t take crap from anyone.
How she doesn’t back down from Hunter’s actions and gives him no second chances when lines are crossed.
Wow Hunter is a real mystery.
Everything about him is a facade.
For reasons yet unknown.
He maybe sexy and appealing to the eye.
But Hunter has evil lurking in every corner of his being.
That cliffhanger the author let us with is one dramatic ending.
Bring on book2!
The Queen of Darkness is back and let me tell you, she did not disappoint. I purposefully save Dori’s book to read last because I know it’ll mess with my head. What happens when what you thought all along isn’t that at all?
This book is part one of a duet so yes, this will end in a bit of a cliffhanger. My first thought to finishing this book was ‘Why didn’t Brees stick with her gut?’ Your gut feelings are all you got to on, do not ignore them. This story is about Bree and Hunter, they have been married for six months when Hunter can no longer keep his mask in tact. You see Hunter starts transforming and Bree does not like what she sees. She wants her husband back. Just when you think that Bree has escaped, Hunter strikes again and might actually win this round.

OMG SPEECHLESS! I LOVED IT!
The daunting light bulbs that keep going off telling me to stop get out while I still can but I’m completely spellbound as the madness rips through the storyline that is hard to read and incredibly hard to find the will to keep reading as the fear of the unknown surges to the fore front of my mind. A terrifying bundle of nervous suspense, abuse, rape, fear and so darn intense with hard hitting impacting twists and unbearable turns that has me asking myself Did I enjoy this read? Heck NO, but I desperately want MORE making me feel uneasy with a touch of insanity for liking every disgusting word throughout this wicked dark read that ends on an earth rattling cliffhanger that I would absolutely recommend to anyone willing to take a leap into the insanely crazy dark side for the mentally unstable people like me because I FLIPPING LOVED every vile word.
What happens when the person you married is now who you thought they were? That’s what happens here when Bree realizes her husband is a lot more than she bargained for. She has to forget herself and her dreams or his darkness comes out. It’s a matter of time before it turns even more dark. This is my first dark romance from this author and I love it. I don’t like that I need to wait for the next book but it keeps you on your toes and so enthralled that it doesn’t matter.
