When Shivon Roxtin tries to incite a rebellion among the human females on the Outcast planet, she’s sent to the Relentless. The ship’s commander, Warlord Torak Payne, thrives on challenge, so he’s looking forward to taming the fiery human. Still, war with the Sarronti is creeping ever closer, and the last thing he needs is an unruly mate. Tempers flare, and sparks fly from the moment they first … they first meet. Their battle of wills is quickly surpassed by their consuming need for each other, but can they channel the emotional intensity into something constructive before they’re consumed by the flames?
Note to Readers: This book contains detailed descriptions of sizzling passion only suitable for mature readers. Certain plot elements carry on from book to book. Though Warlord can be read as a standalone, it’s more fun to read the series in order. Enjoy!

I like these books so much. My main gripe is that they don’t come fast enough. It takes them FORever to come out. I know I sound like a kid, sorry bout that.
This story is good. I know that the main ones are the Warlord and his mate that he has just claimed. To me the more important one is the Overlord. I hope to have that book soon and I hope it is longer also. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review
She is really trying to cause trouble on the out cast planet so she is sent to him. She is his mate and he decides to tame her or at least make her behave. A war is coming and he does not need the distraction. It is exciting, emotional, dramatic, surprising, hot and so much more. I received a review copy from booksprout and voluntarily review it.
I certainly enjoyed reading this alien romance; it caught my attention and kept it until the last page was turned. I found the story-line & plot quite well-thought out & written. The unique characters are emotional strong individuals & interesting with different sides to their individual personalities, the secondary characters play good supporting roles.
There is: a rebellious & outspoken human female (Shivon Roxtin) has absolutely no interest in being mated but is sent to a Outcast Commander (Warlord Torak Payne) on board the Relentless who realizes that Shivon is his fated mated , a Outcast Overlord & matchmaker (Kage Razel), a secretive elf-like species (Sarronti), a female Sarronti (Ezalondra aka Eza Alonov), twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, adventure, action, danger, enemies, threats, attacks, conflict, violence, political issues, genetic/compatibility tests, suspicions, verbal disagreements, manipulations, compromises, frustrations, challenges, negotiations, attractions, seduction, emotional turmoil, devious plans, memories, sexual tension, trust, declaration, love, mates, intimate steamy scenes & a well-deserved happy conclusion.
Picking your battles while fighting for your life
Warlord is Book 5 in Cyndi Friberg’s ongoing Outcasts series, set in her Ontariese/Billarian/Rhodyte universe. I would not call it a standalone, and I heartily recommend reading the series in order for maximum appreciation of Friberg’s masterful world-building and her ongoing in-depth character development. The romance is hot, at times dark and disturbing, and HEA is the well-deserved reward for human Shivon Rixton and hybrid Rhodyte Warlord Torak Payne. In Shivon, Friberg has created the textbook profile of the rebellious feminist whose politics derive totally from the appalling experiences her childhood and youth. Which is not to say her knee-jerk militant POV is not without just cause, or merit. It’s the involuntary reflex aspect that has Torak annoyed, challenged, intrigued, and then inextricably attracted – in extremely short order. That he and Shivon are a strong genetic match inevitably triggers the need to soul-bond as lifelong mates. That neither is equipped by education or experience to understand the other’s reality is the seemingly insurmountable obstacle they must overcome. That there’s a hostile race of underground elves, a hostage situation, a diplomatic crisis, and an oncoming war are some external complications. Add the autocratic and powerful Overlord who commands them both, and a prescient harbinger’s infallible prophesy of sacrifice – or doom. Stir in the chronic discontent of the powerless elves with the demands of their power-hungry rulers, the desperation of the Outcast males for their human mates, and the wild-card loyalty of a pride of karrons (cross a telepathic cat with a tank and you get the idea), and the dramatic tension is edge-of-your-seat, nail-bitingly relentless. My recommendation? Read the series first, then grab Warlord with both hands and hang on for a riveting reading experience. Oh, and one-click Overlord, the series finale, upcoming.
I received a n ARC copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When I first grabbed this book, I was hoping that it wouldn’t be all about sex with an alien. That it actually had a good story being played out. Well of course it eventually does have the sex but there is the required resistance on Shivon’s part first. But that was well done, she really did have reasons to trust no one. She trust herself and that’s it. No man was going to turn her into a “Suzie Homemaker”. She had so much more to offer and she wasn’t sitting down and shutting up about it either. She goes toe to toe with Kage, the Overlord first and that rebellion gets her sent to Torak on the Relentless. Of course, Kage also has another motive as well, that does get revealed fairly early on. Well it does get revealed to Torak at least. It’s pretty well known among the ranks that even as tough as Kage is, he is also well known for his matchmaking ways. And he’s pretty good at it.
I liked both Torak and Shivon, they were both strong characters. Torak grew on me as more of his true motives came into view.
Kage, now there was someone I didn’t know what to make of at first. He just seemed like an arrogant, over-bearing kind of guy. But wait there is more to him. And we get to see even more when he meets up with a high ranking
Sarronti woman named, Ezalondra (Eza). Their story will continue in the next book, “Overlord”. Which is one that sounds interesting to me too.
There is some MAJOR twists towards the end of the book that just keep the story going. There is also a battle that goes on that brings some victories but not a total one. There is still hope for negotiations between the two races but it isn’t a done deal.
So there is a H.E.A. for now for Torak and Shivon. Their relationship is more secure but the dangers have not all been eliminated yet when it comes to their daily lives.
Overall this book had plenty of emotions, dangers and action. I gave it 4.5 STARS on Amazon.
