Be swept away by the romance, intrigue, unconventional heroines, and dashing heroes, by USA Today Bestselling Author Wendy Vella’s regency romance series.
Determined and dashing, Benjamin Hetherington vowed that he would never give a woman the power to hurt him again. So far, he’s succeeded, but then Miss Primrose Ainsley comes stomping into his life. She has too much to say, is nothing like any … nothing like any debutante he’s ever met, and seems not to give a fig about proprietary. Ben fights the emotion she provokes in him by pushing her away, but too late he realizes that in Primrose he has found someone that may heal the dark stain on his soul.
Primrose is very aware of her shortcomings, her family have certainly commented on them often enough. She’s forthright, and bookish, both qualities that are not in her favor. Attending a house party during her one and only season, is not going well. In fact, her entire debut is a nightmare, until she meets Benjamin Hetherington. The man has seen her at her worst, and yet incredibly she still sees the burning desire in his gaze. Honor wars with irresistible passion, but when disaster strikes and her reputation is ruined, Primrose realizes she’s made the foolish mistake of falling in love with him.

Benjamin, determined and dashing, vowed that he would never give a woman the power to hurt him again. He succeeded until Primrose came stomping into his life. She has too much to say and is nothing like any debutante he ever met. She seems not to give a fig about proprietary. Ben fights the emotion she provokes in him by pushing her away. Too late, he realizes that in Promise he found someone that may heal the dark stain on his soul. – Primrose was an interesting character. She was not the typical woman of that era. She and Ben both had shortcomings to overcome, and they helped each other. I liked them, his siblings, and the lady who was sponsoring her. This is a good read.
I loved the personality of the main characters
I lost interest and didn’t finish.
I try to read everything she writes, excellent writer!!!!!
Primrose and Benjamin are not the likely couple. They both abhor love and yet are interested in each other. Of course they realize their love somewhere around 70% which is fine but my problem is that this story was excessively repetitive. If you were to take away the repetitive statements then this book would be shorter. I, however did like the concept and how Primrose was not a wallflower. I felt their heartbreak and love. Secondary characters were great!! The implication that the Sinclair family was supernatural was random at most and unnecessary.
great read
Another wonderful read. Love these characters.
As always Vella hits a homerun with her novel
Wish many of these romance books were better proof-read – quite distracting when I have to decide what the sentence was to have been.
Miss Primrose Ainsley is not your average debutante – she has a mind of her own and intends to make her own path in life. Benjamin Hetherington is determined not to marry. I found the plot interesting and humorous at times. I felt the characters were developed well as the story unfolded.
Loved the group of characters, especially Primrose and her affinity for water!
This was a delightful and witty historical romance. It was filled with engaging banter and humorous situations according to time period. Both MCs were likable and had wonderful chemistry. And haute ton didn’t disappoint with its sarcastic attitudes and judgemental gossips.
Primrose Ainsley is a woman considered to be on the shelf with only slight connection to the elite. She is considered beneath the notice. When she has to endure her first season in order to marry, she perseveres in hopes that she will go back home to her quiet life. Always thinking how unlovable she is due to her family’s shabby treatment of her, she follows her own path by loving plants and being a bit of a wild child. She will never love or be loved, so young gentlemen do not interest her. That is until one day she meets a man who hides his own pain by being rude and obnoxious to her.
Ben Hetherington has everything he could ever want – a loving family, money and connections, female adoration and freedom. What he does not want is a wife! But his family keeps harping at him that it’s time he got himself one. What starts as a nasty retort turns into a discovery that there is more to the young ladies that what they show to the ton if he only but looks closer. From anger comes awareness, then protectiveness that does not make sense. Then it all becomes an elaborate dance between two young people – banter, passionate kisses and funny shenanigans.
But being in the wrong place at the wrong time gets Primrose in trouble and Ben becomes her savior. But nobles are a fickle bunch, and with her reputation in tatters and her family abandoning her, Primrose has no one but herself to rely on. Ben, having pushed her away, finally gets his head straight and dashes to claim her as his own. It’s all very adventurous – carriage rides, kidnappings and young people in love. I had so much fun reading this! It also crosses over with Sinclair and Raven series by this author, so that is indeed a treat! Another good one by Ms Vella!
I have had this on my TBR list for a couple of months & I am sorry I waited so long to read it! I was so good & all the characters (main & secondary) were fun & endearing with a lot of humor!
Primrose Ainsley is feisty, speaks her mind, sweet, caring, honest, innocent, a daredevil & not the definition of a debutante. Primrose really doesn’t care if she is ideal except her parents have sent her to London with her Aunt to find a suitable husband. She just wants to go back to the country & doesn’t care about love & marriage.
Handsome, rich, flirty & funny, Benjamin Hetherington is the brother of a Viscount & understands how to schmooze his way through society – plus he know how to avoid the overzealous Mamas trying catch a bachelor for their daughters to marry. He will never love, let alone marry after his mother left him & his siblings on their own – she hurt him deeply & he will never trust a woman for himself.
Benjamin & Primrose has an adventurous journey to a HEA which includes her in water escapes & rescues, kidnapping, danger, beatings, chases, elopements, lies, loves & more. I highly recommend this story & all the books in the series. They can be read as stand alone books but reading the series in order draws you in to the characters you will love & meet again in the other books.
BEN PLEASE take a page out of Oliver’s book and clean up your messes before they re-kidnap someone! I will give him credit for attempting to bring in a magistrate and bringing along useful help when taking the law into his own hands. He would get more credit if he had been armed at all times. But this was a delightful conclusion to this series! Primrose and Ben spent quite a lot of their courtship falling in various bodies of water, so I’m thinking that they need to prioritize teaching their future children to swim! I’m going to miss this crazy family!
