Materharper Robinton is perhaps my favorite character in the Dragons of Pern universe. As such, this is the book he deserves.
Great book and series
Love all the dragons of Pern books!
The Pern series is in my top five SF&F favorites across a long lifetime of reading. The stories all stand alone and in fact, she didn’t write the stories according to the world timeline, so someone new to the series could set up a reading of the books according to the world’s timeline rather than as they came out. I read them as they came out and …
The entire Dragonriders of Pern series is excellent!
I have enjoyed most of the books in the fantasy series, “The Dragons of Pern”. Anne McCaffrey is one of those gifted writers that we wish would live forever, writing more stories about her fantastical worlds and characters. If you have any kind of vivid imagination, you can visualize the characters, the landscape and get caught up, in the story, …
One of my favorite McCaffrey books, but so sad too, had me in tears.
All of the Pern books are great but some more so than others. This one looked at the life of a beloved character.
I’ve read this and all of Anne McCaffrey drahonriders of Pern books and they are all a fantastic read. The books were my first read into fantasy/science fiction after Tolkien. I started reading them after a referral from Stephen King in a letter from the author. The books were what formed his writing skills. Anne creates a new world in the world …
If anyone wants a “dragon” story, this isn’t it. It’s about the Masterharper and provides so much background to McCaffrey’s Dragon riders books, and explains the estrangement between the Masterharper and his father.
Wonderful. Have read all of the pern series. Great writing and story building. Characters are wonderful.
One of my Top Five authors and one of her top five books!
I read this series a number of times when they first came out and absolutely loved them. I like the fact there is no crude language or explicit love scenes, just good old fantasy writing. She’s tops as an author!
One great book in a series of great books by one of my favorite authors.. All of her books are 5 star..
One of the earlier and better of the series.
The author has great skillin creating characters that you want to read about. The world she puts them on has new and old put together in a great blend. Be sure to read the whole series in order.
