This book is my favorite in the series – and one of my top favs from Petie McCarty!!!
This is the third book I’ve read from the impressive writer, Petie McCarty. A few months ago I had the privilege of reading her book, “No Cowboys No Angels,” which is part of the Mystery Angels Romances Book Series and I totally loved it, so I was very excited to read her latest work, “The Angel and the SEAL,” which also falls into the same book series.
Petie’s writing only continues to improve, grow, and expand with each book! I know she will be an author I will continue to read over the years!
This book focuses on Navy SEAL Sean McKay, also known as, “Mac,” and his most recent assignment. Mac’s best friend and teammate, Brian, is murdered and branded a traitor after he stole a deadly nerve-gas formula from Syrian terrorists. Upon investigation it is determined that Brian shipped the deadly nerve gas to the U.S., to his sister’s, Cory Rigatero’s house. Mac is tasked with finding Cory before the terrorists do, keeping her safe, and retrieving the stolen gas no matter what it takes. There’s just one tiny, little problem, Mac broke Cory’s heart six years ago and she wants nothing to do with him. Will Mac be able to find a way back into Cory’s life? Will Cory forgive Mac? Will Mac be able to find the stolen gas before the terrorists?
This book focuses on Cory Rigatero, and the beautiful rustic resort, “Bel Tesoro,” she owns near Mt. St. Helens in the town of Clark. Unfortunately, someone recently begins to secretly sabotaging her resort and trying to scare her off into selling her property to Percy Standish, Sr., also known as, “Senior,” and his son, Percy Standish, Jr., also known as, “Junior,” who mostly own the town or its people are indebted to them. Weirdly though, this vandalism doesn’t start happening until Mac shows up and he is the prime suspect. Is Mac doing this to get back at Cory or to get her attention? Can Mac even be trusted this time? Who is ultimately destroying her resort? And this book contains a secret guardian angel – who is it? No spoilers here!! But you definitely will want to read this book and find out what happens!!
I really enjoyed the small-town setting of Clark and how the town itself is almost like a character and an underlying theme as well throughout the book.
I also enjoyed the Mt. St. Helens reference – as the real Mt. St. Helens resort town is just a short drive away. It’s exciting when our small towns are featured in a popular book!
I really liked the main characters, Cory and Mac. They were likable, realistic, and genuine. I loved that Cory was a strong, smart, stubborn, bold, sassy, driven female-lead – those are my favorite type of characters and role-models. I loved that Mac was tough, charming, caring, sexy, persistent, and relentless. There is so much chemistry between these two and it was entertaining watching them try to fight it. Not to mention all the hilarious witty banter that went back and forth between Cory and Mac!! There were many LOL moments in this book and usually at the expense of these two!! I loved how they pushed each other’s buttons and at times drove each other crazy lol!! Also, I loved Garth, Cory’s adopted guard dog!! He was so sweet, adorable, and protective!!
I absolutely loved the characters and the small-town vibe!! I was completely wrapped up with the characters storylines!!
I think the author did a fantastic job on her character development as these characters were so real and personal on many levels!
It is clear Mrs. McCarty does not know how to write a boring, cookie-cutter character. She writes her characters with depth, that have emotional baggage, are dealing with real-life struggles, and are working on over-coming personal obstacles. She writes real-life characters that face real-world problems. Which is one of the reasons I love her books, because I know when I read it, I will be able to easily connect with the characters and possibly even grow with the characters in the story.
There is so much going on in this book there literally is no time to catch your breath as we go from scene to scene and plot point to plot point! This book completely grabs hold of you and it is impossible to walk away until you’ve turned the last page!!
Overall, I loved everything – especially the ending!!! The only negative comment I have is that I felt the takedowns were both a bit rushed and hurried over. There had been so much build up to discovering the culprits and the truth and then it was almost an afterthought as it was quickly resolved and brushed away. I just felt more emphasis and time would have added to the story and smoothed out the transition better.
This book has a creative storyline, fantastic writing style with meticulous and vivid scenes, well-developed characters, is fast paced, and keeps you completely entertained through the last page.
The author’s writing is strong and eloquently detailed. She really provided so much detail in her writing that it was easy to picture! There were a few times I found myself totally caught up in the story!
This book genre is marketed as contemporary romance and yet the author found a way to throw in mystery, intrigue, suspense, and adventure elements into the book. It definitely added a fascinating twist to the story!
There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still a few unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming! Bet you’ll be shocked to find out who Cory’s mystery angel is!!! I know I was!!!
This book is book three in the Mystery Angels Romances Book Series. I have read book one, but not book two in this book series. I can say without hesitation, that this book can absolutely be read as a standalone. I was not lost or confused while reading this book and having previous knowledge of book one was not necessary to enjoy this book. However, since I liked this book, I would suggest getting in from the beginning and starting with book one, so you don’t miss anything – but truly you can read them in any order, just make sure you read all three!!!
For me, this book absolutely worked!!! It hit everything I look for and need when I am reading and reviewing a book!!!
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend not only this book, but this author as well! I was truly impressed with the quality of writing, intriguing storyline, and excellent character development! I will definitely be continuing to follow this author and check out her upcoming books! I think all contemporary romance readers will like this book too – and this book series! So, be sure to add it to your TBR List and get to reading – you won’t be disappointed!
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book and have voluntarily provided an honest, and unbiased review in accordance with FTC regulations.**
I really enjoyed this book, I think part of it was the setting which is an old cabin-like resort. While on a lake, although called a resort, it was built many years before as a fisherman’s dream place. Now that the father is dead, his daughter is running it; trying to keep the books on the plus side of the ledger line and really having problems. This has such excellent characters. I especially loved an old manager named Vern who has had more to do with Cory’s upbringing than anyone. He was my favorite, tough yet soft and caring, seasoned and yet young in his own way. Petie McCarty has done such a good job of describing and defining her characters that I felt like I could see every one of them and that I knew every one of them. As if they were my friends, except for the bad guys and/or girls, of course.
You’d never be able to tell it by my description here, but this romance stuff is not my favorite genre, well not my genre at all. But you know most of the romance here was like everyday life. The mystery part of the story created lots of twists and turns. There were some points in the story where I was pulling my hair and yelling, “oh come on, stop arguing and being silly and get together”. But you know something about that? If an author can get you that moved…well, then that’s pretty good writing isn’t it?
This is Book 3 in a series titled “The Mystery Angel Romances”. Petie McCarty has several other books published and all of them have good reviews.
Navy SEAL Sean MacKay’s best friend and teammate is murdered in the line of duty. Before he died, he sent the missing formula to his sister. Now MacKay is ordered to secure the formula and protect his best friend’s sister from the terrorists. Sounds like an easy job for a SEAL, right? Not when the sister is the woman you fell in love with six years ago and broke her heart when you left without a word.
With her brother off doing whatever it is SEALs do and her father dead, Cory has done whatever she can to keep her family resort running. She’s staved off offers to sell and done a lot of the maintenance herself. But when MacKay shows up, her world turns on its axis. Her brother’s death is a shock but more so is MacKay. He shattered her world six years ago and she’s not about to let him do it again. She doesn’t need his protection. She’s got her adopted dog Garth who never leaves her side. But every time Sean gets close, her heart flips and all she wants to do is kiss him. Sabotage is happening on the resort and the number one suspect is MacKay. Is he out to ruin her for what happened in the past or is there someone else out to get her? Her brother said when he left for Basic, he was going to send her an angel. Well, she could sure use an angel right now.
The Angel and SEAL is the best book in the series. From its second-chance romance between two lonely people to its accurate portrayal of SEAL teams and life, I loved every minute reading this book. The action scenes are realistic as is the suspense. Both Cory and Sean are strong characters with a lot of misunderstandings to overcome. The love is strong… it just takes them the whole book to get past all the mistrust. The ending made me cry buckets. So heartfelt, so honest, so real. If you love SEAL romances, you’ll want to pick this up. If you love second-chance romance, you’ll want to read this one. It has all the feels. Highly recommend!
My Rating: 5+ stars
The Angel and the SEAL is the third installment from Petie McCarty’s series Mystery Angel Romances. Even though it is part of a series, I feel it can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed Cory and MacKay’s story. It is action packed, suspenseful and fast paced. It is a quick read that I had read in just a few hours.
I give The Angel and the SEAL four stars. I would love to read the previous books in this series to see what happened prior to this one.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
There were moments that touched my heart with this story. I loved the interactions between Cory and Mac. The secrets being kept from Cory, the danger surrounding both of them, and the intrigue on a more local level kept this story interesting. I enjoyed all the characters within this small town, and I look forward to more in this series.
I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions and this is my unsolicited review.
I have had the pleasure of reading all of Petie McCarty’s Angel Mystery series, and her latest, The Angel and the SEAL is my favorite to date. It is fast pace and action packed from start to finish.
Ms. McCarty has built a good suspense where a run- down lake resort is falling prey to local saboteur as well as a threat of international terrorism. The scenarios are realistically presented, and the author lays out the various threats such that plot tension is high and the question of “who dunnit” is ambiguous throughout most of the story.
Sean (Mac) MacKay is a likable, honest character whose history in town is not forgotten by most of the long-time townies. His return after six years as a Navy SEAL is not by chance, and it has attracted the wrong attention from the local sheriff.
Cory is the younger sister of Mac’s best friend and SEAL team mate, Brian. Cory remains at home desperately trying to keep the family lakefront cottage resort from failing. I felt deeply for Cory’s losses and struggles, however, her naiveté that the local men were just friends was a little off-putting. The idea that she held tight to a grudge and mistrust of Mac even after learning the truth about their past parting, made it hard for me to care about this character and her unrelenting angst.
The secondary characters are great caricatures of small town inhabitants, and they bring a sense of family and neighborliness to the story.
Given the series and book title, it is no surprise that a guardian angel is somehow involved in this story. The angel reveal brought a surprising and heartwarming twist to the ending.
This is a well written story that drew me in from the start I haven’t read any of the previous books but will be looking for them to read as I enjoyed this one so much It flowed well and had enough drama and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat and a romance that had you swooning a you read
Sean MacKay broke his best friend and fellow team mates sister’s heart when he walked away from her years ago. Now with his best friend killed in the line of duty and believing that he sent the nerve gas formula to his sister. Sean has been tasked with getting that formula back and protecting Cory Rigatero in the process even though the powers that be think her brother was a traitor. Corey is trying to keep her family resort but foreclosure is looming but someone is sabotaging her efforts and she believes that person is Sean MacKay as danger gets ever closer will he be able to convince her that he is there to help and will she begin to learn to trust him once again.
The Angel & the Seal gives the title couple 3 challenges: (1) Cory’s and Matt’s second-chance romance that’s on-again/off-again, plagued by insecurities and jealousy; (2) continuing acts of sabotage on Cory’s already troubled resort, aimed at putting her out of business; and (3) a barrage of violent attacks by mysterious Syrians who believe that Cory possesses a formula for a nerve agent, related to her brother’s and Matt’s careers as black-op Seals. That’s enough suspense for any reader! I loved the book and the characters, reading with fingers crossed and praying for a happy ending on all accounts!
I received this book free from ebooks discovery, and this is my honest and voluntary review: read the book!
Loved this book and the characters of Cory and Mac. Lots of action and twists throughout. My only complaint is sometimes I wanted to smack both characters for being so stubborn and assuming so much! Sweet make-out scenes; nothing overt. Was hoping for Brian to apoear.
This book was very easy to read and action-packed, however, I knew what was going to happen before it happened. I read probably more books than I should because this one sounded familiar from the beginning. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
