Evelyn Mercer has always had a plan. She lives and breathes the plan. The plan and coffee. Go to law school. Check. Make Law Review. Check.Get competitive internship. Check.Land dream job. Double Check. That dream job? Yeah, it’s a nightmare, and Evelyn is miserable with a capital M. When she reaches her misery threshold, Evelyn does the unthinkable and deviates from her plan. Her unexpected new … plan.
Her unexpected new job takes her to Pinehaven Ranch in the middle of nowhere Montana where Evelyn is faced with her biggest obstacle yet. No coffee shops within a 30-mile radius and her new boss’ brother, former rodeo champion Jack Danvers. The three words that best describe Jack are stink, stank, stunning. He is perfection and he inexplicably seems to hate her on sight. But if there is one thing life has taught her, it’s that she still has a lot to learn and Montana is full of surprises.

a.m.a.z.i.n.g. Seriously, I couldn’t stop reading. I’d find myself going back pages as I read because it was so good. I didn’t want it to end. The characters and how she wrote the scenes were perfect. She kept the suspense while the main character grew. It wasn’t the same old thing in most books. Gahhh I don’t usually re-read books. But even though I literally JUST finished it.. I’m going to go read it again. (Can’t wait to see if you do write a story of Gabe!) I cant believe this is her FIRST book! So amazing!
This book is overloaded with cuteness and fun and I loved every moment of it!
With a long slow burn between Evelyn and Jack, you would expect the story to drag but it never did. Evelyn was such a fun, engaging, heroine I couldn’t get enough of her. The way she thought about things, the way she acted, and her response to embarrassing moments held me captivated from the first page. I laughed throughout the entirety of this book.
We don’t get Jack’s point of view which I really, really needed to feel a connection to him, but I loved Evelyn enough to help make up for the lack of Jack. This couple actually are rarely in the same scene for a good portion of the story. In spite of that fact, I was never bored. With an abundance of secondary characters and animals that kept this heroine on her toes, I was thoroughly entertained.
When this couple finally start to make headway I was so hungry for it I couldn’t stop reading. I expected there to be some heavy angst, but that was never the case. This is chick-lit, rom-com, small town romance at its best!
Thank goodness for book buddies who know when to push you into reading a new author and an amazing book!

Everything Girl is a very, very slow burn. The couple barely speak up until the 35% mark. Normally, I would be wanting way more interaction sooner, but I can’t even complain because this book was just so entertaining. I think if this wasn’t even a romance, I would have still loved this book just as much.
The things that I really enjoyed about this story was the setting. Evelyn travels with her boss, Ben, to his family ranch in Montana to work under the radar since he caused a bit of scandal back in Chicago. There she meets his very grumpy, but sexy brother, Jack, his mom, and fellow ranch hands.
Evelyn is the main star of the show, however the side characters were a big reason I really enjoyed this book. Gabe especially…he needs his own book. Then there were the animals. Hank Williams, the dog; King, the horse; and the goats!
I’m seriously impressed that this is the authors first book. After reading this, you would have thought she has been writing for years. The only thing I wished for, was more of Jack. I would have liked to have gotten more of a feel of what he was thinking. You are really left guessing with the hero.
This was such a fun, low angst book that was very, well written. I am looking forward to more from this author. She will be one to follow to see what she’ll brings us next.
Everything Girl by Emily Mayer is a fantastic and hilarious book. I laughed out loud many times while reading this book.
Get ready to laugh your pants off with Evie and the other cast of characters in this excellent book.
My likes:
• That it is told in Evie’s point of view and it is a hilarious point of view
• Evie is a compelling character that had me laughing out loud during some of her scenes
• Her ramblings when she gets super nervous
• I love that she is a planner and loves to-do lists even though her main one was cut short
• Her sisters
My Dislikes
Not a whole lot of dislikes with this book. Some of the characters I didn’t care for, but they weren’t meant to be liked. Like Rodney, what a major jerk. Leigh wasn’t that good either.
Five Stars
Everything Girl by Emily Mayer is a great book that I am glad that I got the chance to read. This story is excellent, the characters are well developed, and the author has a fabulous sense of humor. I loved every single moment of it.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the YA Bound Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Despite the very simple cover (it really doesn’t say anything about the story, except the dog I think): THIS IS A LOVELY BOOK! I was not even half when I already decided this would be on my favorite-shelf. Yay, a winner!
Evelyn is 29 and is a planner. She went to law school and diligently followed her plan, only to realize that she was not happy at all. While thinking hard about what she actually does want, she is the executive assistant of the CEO of Sterling & Sterling in Chicago, Ben. When Ben needs to lay low for a while after a gossip article, he decides to go Pinehaven Ranch in Montana where he grew up and his family lives.
He wants Evelyn to accompany him. In Montana, Evelyn discovers a different way to live. The ranch is amazing and so are the people working it. Except for Jack, Ben’s younger brother. He hasn’t stopped scowling at Evelyn ever since she stepped of the plane. He was a rather famous rodeo rider but retired when he got injured quite badly and now manages the Ranch.
I easily connected with Evie. She was a bit neurotic in her planning, shy but determined and overall just a very nice person. Her doubts over where her future lies are very relatable. The story was written with a lot of humor and so comfortable to read (I can’t believe this is a debut, so I will Google after this until I find more…). I loved the Ranch, the men of the ranch and Mary (Ben and Jack’s mother), the animals. And of course Jack! When he finally decides there is more to Evie than just a city girl, he really brings the sexy!
Quote: ‘But here I was, riding next to Jack, feeling like there was absolutely no place on Earth I would rather be than in Pine Hollow, Montana. Except Paris. ”
For me this was a gem! I loved it and wished there was more (even though there is a lovely epilogue). Let’s cross my fingers while I search the internet for more information on this author. She has a new fan! (2019)
3.5 stars for this slow burn. Evelyn had such a quirky, amusing voice. It was a bit too “wordy” for me. I would have liked to see more interaction between Jack and Evelyn that showed the feelings growing. I was also a bit confused in the beginning because she seemed attracted to Gabe. I wasn’t sure who the H was going to be for a minute. A pretty good debut novel.
From the first chapter, I was hooked. By hooked, I mean, I read this book in one sitting—even my coffee was forgotten!
From the heroine’s need for lists and schedule; the witty dialogue; the silent, broody hero; their slow-burn romance; to the beautiful flowing writing style. . . this book was wow!
EVERYTHING GIRL is one of my favorite reads of 2019.
