omg, Marcelo… He was such a cutie in The Contingency Plan, but his actions here are so well-thought and oddly badass. Then for him to do it twice (and almost a third time)?
The conspiracy in the plot was fantastic and the twist… I literally hollered. After Marcelo was abducted, I couldn’t put it down.
A great sequel!
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and at the time I didn’t know it would be a series. The last sentence of my review for the first book, The Contingency Plan, said “I’d like to read a follow up story to see how these two guys are doing.” Thank you Addison Albright for giving me more!
I think it’s possible for you to read The Best-Laid Plans without reading The Contingency Plan first but you will definitely enjoy it more if you have the full background from the first book.
Marcelo hasn’t been trained in the use of weapons. When he finds himself in a bad situation, he has to think fast to save himself. He surprises not only himself but a lot of other people too. This short novella sure packed a punch. There is mystery, suspense and two new lovers learning about each other. I was practically biting my nails while I read this; I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.
Once again, I’m going to say: I’d like to read a follow up story to see how these two guys are doing.”
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

This is one of my favorite series. I love Marcelo and Efren so much. I sigh with so much love for this series and for the my favorite couple.
This story picks up where Contingency Plan left off and sweeps you to its faraway kingdom with the warmth of a familiar friend. Addison Albright has a true gift for storytelling. No matter whether we are castaway on a desert island or whisked to a world realms away from this, it is a place with characters who feel as real as their stories are resonant. The Best-Laid plans is an enthralling adventure that seems far more realistic than many a more mundane tale. Characters who are relatable despite their lofty status, crafted with a depth that far exceeds its length. I adored Prince Marcelo, whose self-perceived flaws make him braver than he believes and as believable as he is beautifully written. Prince Efren is magnificent; a hero as compelling as he is charismatic. The Best-Laid Plans is the perfect follow up to The Contingency Plan; a thrill ride of derring-dos and developing love that delivers far more than a fairytale happy ever after. I loved it.
“Best Laid Plans” by Addison Albright is a gay fantasy romance story that picks up immediately after “The Contingency Plan” ends. The newlywed princes are traveling back to Zioneven, continuing to learn more about each other and thankful that such a desirable solution to the treaty arrangements is mutually acceptable. Prince Marcelo has to learn to cope with the myriad of details he has never been required to handle in his protected life, but he wants to impress his new husband. Of course, he’ll have to survive long enough to do so…
This story is part of the ‘Plans’ series and provides a more in-depth look at Marcelo, who is thankfully more than just a pretty face. Although short, this story gave a glimpse of the lengths that those from the other kingdoms will go to in order to disrupt the treaty arrangements. I liked the excitement and the way Marcelo is gradually becoming a contributing partner, but I would like to learn more about the reason all of the kingdoms are in such conflict. There are some details that were a little nebulous but the overall story is a fun quick read. It is undoubtedly helpful to have read the first story in the series, but I think that one can still enjoy this story as a stand-alone tale since there are enough allusions to past events to orient the reader. I hope there are many more stories featuring this pair and I look forward to Marcelo continuing to develop into an equal partner.

Another part of Marcelo’s and Efren’s adventures after an unexpected wedding.
I loved this new part and I still love the amazing narration and language, so consistent with the story!
