Really enjoyed this! The MC, Reagan, had some unique traits, which I enjoyed. Lots of surprises. Some good laughs. Lots of curse words so if that offends you, skip this series. I loved Enzo’s character. And Reagan’s BFF Gemma was awesome and so fun. I loved their friendship. I don’t think enough books include a solid, realistic friendship.
This was my first audiobook with Vanessa Moyen. She is wonderful! I see why she’s so popular. She really makes the story come alive. Does different voices. Just awesome. My favorite voice she did was Malina. I was kind of blown away that it was still her. It felt like it was a totally different person. She’s fab.

I had taken a break from the academy books for a while because they can be a bit juvenile, but the cover was captivating so I decided to give it a try with little to no expectations. I’d say this is a solid 3.5 star book. Some of the starting plot points are a bit obvious, but gradually builds twists and turns as it goes along. The fact that Raegan is blindsided with the fact that her parents aren’t really her parents, but she doesn’t even bat an eye was surprising and spoke to some more writing development that could have happened. Yes, there is room for writing improvement from Renee, but overall, to be honest, it’s better than many of the other academy books I’ve read. The segregation of students by race and not gender was a bit odd. I know many people are annoyed with the time jumps as the year progresses, but have they never read an academy book before? You kind of have to in order to get through the year. Though some of the characters are a bit one-dimensional and have room for so much more development, there’s enough about them that draw you in and hope for more in the future.
I was shocked at Raegan’s easy acceptance in taking Enzo for a mate and essentially soul-mate, especially in book 1 in a series, but at least there is room for more focus on the evil Malina has brewing. The ending with Raegan running away from all of her issues was a bit disheartening and kind of a cop-out, but I did enjoy the book so far that I’m still looking forward to the next in the series.
I enjoyed delayed admission. It’s creative and entertaining. I liked Raegan, Aunt Jules and Gemma. I even liked Enzo a tiny bit. It’ll be interesting to see if my feelings towards him change as I make my way through the rest of the series.
At the age of seventeen Raegan experienced a tragic loss and goes to stay with Aunt Jules.
Recently Raegan has been experiencing things that she’s afraid to say anything about. Things that normal individuals wouldn’t. Either by coincidence or by design Reagan finds herself drafted into Shadow Veil Academy. She shows strength, loyalty and determination as she navigates the crazy, chaotic world she’s been thrust into. Thank goodness she’s got the love and help of her kick butt Aunt Jules and sassy best-friend Gemma.
I can’t wait to find what happens next in their fight against Malina.
A book about finding out who you are and who are your real friends. We begin this journey with the first book of a series. There is so much going on that you will be hooked and begging for more when you are finished. I really liked the book itself and the narration is perfect.
I just finished this rollercoaster ride. Omg, where do I begin?!? I absolutely loved this world!! We follow Rae and what she has struggled with is heartbreaking. She is literally thrown into the magical world and she handles it very well. The angst between the hot guy, Enzo and Rae intensifies as the book continues.
There’s so much I want to say, but gah, I can’t because I don’t want to give out any spoilers. But I absolutely loved this book!!
If you enjoy academy books, I highly recommend this book. Make sure you have the next book ready to go. Trust me.
I listened to the audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator, Vanessa Moyen. She does a fabulous job narrating the story and I felt like she portrayed Rae’s voice very well.
Wow. I’ve been stuck on a rotation of reverse harem and academy books (sometimes they are both ) recently, but this one really shines through the over saturated genre. It sucked me in and while somethings you can probably guess if you’ve read enough books it was still wonderfully executed. This book is one of the few that is a no brainer 5 star. It’s on kindle unlimited which I have, but I loved it so much I ended up buying it and preordering the next one.
Enter SVA where the races rule and magic is everywhere! Raegan’s world starts to change when she develops unusual powers and she’s left feeling all alone. With seemingly no where, or one, to which she can turn to, everything changes one night! Once everything turns upside down, things begin to make sense and a whole new world opens up. Rae enters the gates to Shadow Veil Academy and suddenly she is surrounded by power, secrets, spells, friends, enemies and the most overwhelming darkness. This is just the tip of the iceberg!! This story will make you squeal with glee and it will surprise you in both of the best and worst ways! I wanted to throw my phone and stomp my feet towards the end!! My heart became so invested with the characters that it felt like it was breaking into a million tiny pieces! This is without a doubt one of the most well written and emotionally engaging academy series in existence!! You will be held captive from the very first chapter and this does not let you go! I highly encourage you to make the time to read this in one sitting, it’s utterly mesmerizing! Heather Renee has blossomed beautifully as a writer with this intriguing series starter! This is poignant and compelling and exciting and even a bit sexy!!! One click this today, don’t keep SVA waiting!
Great start of a promising great series. I really enjoyed reading “Delayed Admission” by Heather Renee. It has great world development and the characters are very interesting. Raegan’s world has been changed one evening. It’s a rollercoaster of a ride as you experience with her, her first year at an academy for people like her. The supporting characters add to the storyline and their own stories are interesting as well. There is much that is surprising throughout the book and the end of the book leaves you wanting more.
Loved Delayed Admission! Full of surprises! A little bit of sass, love, mystery and of course magic, BFF’s and fun! Raegan takes you through her adjustment and acceptance that she has magic and so much more! I love that the story was balanced with all sorts of emotions. There was some sadness and happiness and suspense, I laughed and cried and stayed up all night to finish the book! I also felt the story was a good balance of young to adult PNR. Again, I loved the book and am definitely ready to read on about what comes next for Raegan!
This book was amazing! Seriously, read it! You are missing out if you don’t snatch this one up! The characters are awesome and once you start reading, I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down! Twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat, and the ending will leave you breathless and wanting so much more!

The best book of Heather’s so far, I’m speechless , a rollercoaster of emotions swirling inside me , I can’t find the right words to describe how phenomenal this book is … Once I started to read, I couldn’t stop, and that cliffhanger … Amazing world building and stroy line; strong, badass FMC, you will love Reagan immediately; the ass kicker who-always-have-your-back BF we all want to have and, of course, the hot guy we all hate to love and love to hate … OMG I need the next book NOW!!!
I’m totally claiming Enzo as my new book boyfriend so ladies back off. Rae is amazing and I adore this new academy! I can’t wait for the fall to read more.
I have been completely ripped apart and put back together and then oh wait ripped apart again, Holy crap seriously I DEVOURED this book and went through so many emotions and now I have to wait ugh…… I cannot wait to see what happens to Raegan next?
