“I’ve had his address and phone number all this time. I kept track of him.”Those were the words my mother had said as she handed me the piece of paper that would change my life forever. The one that held my father’s name and address–the same father I’d always been told had died when I was a baby.Even though my entire life until now, I’ve survived by being tightly-focused and in control, as soon … in control, as soon as I learned my father was alive, I made a snap decision. I knew there was only one thing I could do: climb in the car and drive to meet him. The world’s most high-stakes road trip!
What I didn’t know at the time was that things wouldn’t go as planned. My car would break down. Then, the sexiest man I’d ever seen would pull his motorcycle over to rescue me, and I’d be captivated by his eyes and his shoulders, by his strength and calm capability…and that’s when the real adventure would begin.
I’ve survived up until now by insisting on stability, but surviving’s not enough for me anymore. With everything on the line, can I learn to truly live by Embracing Reckless?
Stand-alone Someday series romance, complete with HEA–and plenty of heat and heart along the way!

Embracing Reckless was an exciting read that tugged at my heart strings. Following Brandy on her journey to find her father that she didn’t know existed until her drunken mother lets it slip. Clay seems to be in the right spot when Brandy needed someone the most. The chemistry was wonderful between these two and you really feel for the Brandy and the struggles she goes thru. Great story from Melanie Shawn.
I am so in love with this book. I missed a couple of the others in the series, but was definitely not lost in this one.
I love it so much!
It was so well written and paced really well. I am super ready for more of this series!
I love the relationship that blooms between Brandy and Clay. Brandy is used to taking care of all those around her, but then she meets Clay who starts to take care of her. They have some drama when Brandy does not think she can take any more stress in her life, but Clay is her safety blanket. It definitely does not hurt that he drives a Harley either!
Brandy and Clay’s love story in Embracing Reckless, the fifth book in Melanie Shawn’s Someday series, is an emotional, sexy, and wonderful story. Brandy has always been the take charge, in control twin, keeping them safe and fed while being “raised” by an alcoholic mother. After being called to get her drunken mother one time too many and learning that their mother had lied and their father was alive, Brandy makes a snap decision; instead of going with Sandy for spring break, she was going on a road trip to meet her father. Only things didn’t go as she planned. When her car breaks down, she is rescued by a hot, sexy, biker, Clay, who she is not only attracted to but who is also drawn to her. Clay exudes a calmness that keeps Brandy sane as they continue the adventure together. Clay is a wanderer, traveling from place to place whenever he feels like it. Brandy decides to see what would happen if she channels Sandy’s reckless behavior and surrender to the chemistry and attraction she shares with Clay; hoping maybe Clay can find a place to call home, with her.
This wonderful story written by Melanie Shawn is filled with sexual chemistry and endearing characters. I really enjoyed getting to know both Brandy and Clay. I was glad the journey did not end when Brandy found her father along with lots of other surprises. I highly recommend Embracing Reckless to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Young love!
Melanie Shawn’s Embracing Reckless is a wonderful read of finding good and positivity in bad situations. Brandy has been the responsible one in her family consisting of her twin sister and her alcoholic mother. After going to get her mother from the bar again, the two get in an argument and her mother lets it slip, that the twins’ father is not dead as she had told them, and she has his address!
Brandy heads out to try to find her father and check him out. No need to expose her sister to who-knows-what! Brandy’s car breaks down and she’s stranded at the side of the road.
Clay travels from one place to another on his motorcycle, stopping to work as a bartender just long enough to get money to move on. He was raised to help a damsel in distress, and he can’t leave Brandy stuck at the roadside! Besides, he is smitten at first site!
Brandy is totally unused to having someone take care of her, and she overthinks everything. She is unsure whether Clay will take off again and she will be left behind. But Clay is determined that Brandy is his soulmate and he will spend the time to prove it to her!
Although I don’t normally read YA romance, this was a well written, engrossing story of young love.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.
You really feel for Brandy when you read this story. Alcoholic mother, flighty sister, no father in the picture. But when she gets a call from the bar to pick her mother up, her whole life changes. She takes a road trip and meets Clay…and she feels something for him she hasn’t felt for another. They have instant chemistry and she takes a chance on love. And that chance leads to a whole new life for Brandy. This story was sweet and sexy. Can’t wait for the next one!
I loved this book! I really like Brandy as the heroine and could see a lot of myself in her. I was so proud when she decided enough was enough with her mom and her introduction to Clay ‘The Man’, right out of a good romance movie. I had a feeling about Stuart especially when Clay mentioned where he was headed and that is exactly where Brandy was headed as well. The way Stuart and Janice handled the news and the relationship going forward, made me extremely happy. Loved watching Brandy become a tad more carefree and I really enjoyed watching her relationship with Clay progress and thought the ending for these two was great. One of my favorite lines from this book is, “There’s nothing wrong with being smart about which risks you choose to take. But make sure you don’t miss out on something amazing because you’re too afraid to take any.”
Great storyline. I loved the characters.
Highly entertaining, heartwarming, sexy, fun and engaging adventure filled with lots of witty banter, interesting charters and thrilling passion… a page-turner from beginning to end. Heart pounding excitement around every twist and turn that this fantastic journey took me on. Great reading!
What an awesome book. The duo of Melanie Shawn never disappoint. In this story we need Brandy and Clay. Clay the wonderer and Brandy the one her family leans on. While Brandy is our seeking a father she never knew she still had found something even better. The adventure that follows that chance meeting is so good. Who doesn’t love a man on a motorcycle. Such an awesome read and i give it a 5 star rating.
Embracing Reckless is part of Melanie Shawn’s Someday Series, but it is not necessary to have read the other books in the series to enjoy it.
In this visit to Arcata, we find Brandy, a college student, who has always been the most responsible person in her family, even when she was as young as eight. She has always been the one to care for her twin sister, Sandy, and her mother has been an alcoholic for as long as she can remember. One night Brandy gets a call that her mother is once again drunk at te bar and she needs to come get her. During an argument when she arrives, Brandy’s mom drops the bomb that the twins biological father is not dead like she had always said, but very much alive. With a name and address in hand, Brandy takes off to figure out if the information is legit.
Clay has been drifting from town to town for some time. He stays in a place for awhile, gets a bartending job and then when he feels like moving on, he does. One afternoon he comes across a woman whose car has broken down, who happens to be Brandy, on the way to hopefully find her father, and he is immediately taken by her. He stops to help and calls AAA for her. Once the car is towed, and they find out no one can look at it until the morning, having been brought up right, there is no way he’s going to abandon Brandy to fend for herself.
As Brandy and Clay spend time together, they can’t deny the attraction between them. The question is how will they handle what is blossoming between them due to roadblocks in both of their lives?
I always enjoy Melanie Shawn’s books and this one was no exception. It was a great read and I look forward to what they have to offer next!
A good solid story that is part of a series, but you can read it without having read the others. Brandy and Clay’s story was captivating. Their unexpected meeting turns into a wild, steamy ride with a small twist. Good storyline. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
Brandy has been the care giver for her family since she was a kid. With an alcoholic mother and a twin sister that needed taking care of somebody needed to step up and that was Brandy. One night when randy goes to pick her up from the bar they get into a fight where her mother drops the a huge bomb when she tells her that her father is alive and well and not dead as the girls were lead to believe. After that betrayal Brandy leaves her mother in the bar and tells the bartender to call the cops. With this new information. Brandy cancels on her trip with her sister to the beach and hits the road to Missoula where she is told father lives and on her drive her car breaks down. Enter tall dark and handsome stranger to save Brandy from the side of the road. Clay is what all BBF should be. Sweet, sexy, and gentleman with a heart of gold and loves his momma and not a mommas boy. I loved these two together. Another great story!
Brandy has been the caregiver for the family as long as she can remember. She’s the one that looked out for her twin sister & bailed her mom out from as far back as she can remember. After a vicious argument when Brandy had finally had enough, her mother slipped up & told Brandy a truth. The father she thought was dead was actually alive & she even had his address.
Clay has been roaming the states on his motorcycle, catching jobs as a bartender when the money ran low. He’d decided to head home for a visit when he ran across a stranded motorist. One look at Brandy & he was lost. Could he convince her to give a relationship a chance?
Clay & Brandy are an interesting couple. Brandy is used to being the one in charge & has a tough time letting Clay take care of her. She worries about every contingency & needs to learn to take a step back & calm down. She’s afraid she’ll be left behind if Clay decides to take off again. Clay is patient & calm. He’s determined that Brandy is the one for him & is willing to give her time to accept it.
Feeling safe to be reckless is underrated. I loved this book. It felt a bit more gritty and raw, than their usual stories. There’s just something about Brandy that is so emotionally naked, even though she’s a very strong woman. Life’s been hard, but a chance meeting with Clay, explosive chemistry and discovering new sides to herself and the world around her, changes how she views herself and her life. The authors guide us through their story, told by dual POV, with clever ease. The storyline feels well worked through and the characters have depth that make them feel real and relatable. Brandy hit me hard and Clay is swoonworthy.
