Breathtaking ending!!
Michael Ledwidge took me for a ride, slowly building up to the last half of Stop at Nothing. In the beginning, I had no idea what Mike Cannon was or who he turned into, and it was awesome to read who he really is! Cannon is a retired police officer enjoying his life living in the Bahamas when he witnesses a jet crash. Upon investigation, the jet crash is way more than a jet crash, and Cannon soon finds himself in a major cover up. Our other main character, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Ruby Everett was disappointing. I expected more military background instincts than the helpless woman I was reading. This book does not let the reader relax, and it is indeed hard to put down.
Mike Gannon is enjoying an evening of deep sea fishing off an island in the Bahamas when he is witness to a jet plane crashing into the ocean and splitting apart. An accomplished diver, he immediately gets his gear on to see if he can find any survivors. He finds 6 bodies, who all looked to have died prior to the crash. He also finds a case containing millions of dollars and a sack of diamonds worth several times more than that. With no one around and his radio broken, preventing him from reporting the crash, Mike hides his find and returns home.
The news reports the crash of a small prop plane belonging to an older couple. Something is definitely off here! Then a navy investigator is turned away from the scene. And people go missing. Someone is after what Gannon found, and they are willing to kill to get it back. However, Gannon is not just any diving instructor/fisherman. His prior work gives him deadly skills of his own, and he is determined to find out the real story behind the crash and bring it to light. GAME ON!!!
This is a fast-paced adventurous read with plenty of international intrigue. Ledwidge knows how to produce suspense thrillers that keep pages flying. A highly recommended read.
My thanks to NetGalley and Hanover Square Press for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Stop at Nothing is my kind of book. Shades of John D. MacDonald’s Travis McGee. Great characters, lots of action, and a razor-sharp plot. Good stuff. Really good.
Stop at Nothing is a smart, brawny thriller that moves fast and surprises often. The action is tense, the characters are surely drawn, and a wonderful sense of authenticity drives the story. Best of all, the writing is assured and stylish. Stop at Nothing is a high speed roller coaster that will carry you away.
