#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The highly anticipated sequel to One of Us Is Lying! There’s a new mystery to solve at Bayview High, and there’s a whole new set of rules.Fans of the hit thriller that started it all can watch the secrets of the Bayview Four be revealed in the One of Us is Lying TV series now streaming on NBC’s Peacock! Come on, Bayview, you know you’ve missed this.A ton of copycat … Bayview, you know you’ve missed this.
A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one’s been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts.
Until now.
This time it’s not an app, though—it’s a game.
Truth or Dare.
Phoebe’s the first target. If you choose not to play, it’s a truth. And hers is dark.
Then comes Maeve and she should know better—always choose the dare.
But by the time Knox is about to be tagged, things have gotten dangerous. The dares have become deadly, and if Maeve learned anything from Bronwyn last year, it’s that they can’t count on the police for help. Or protection.
Simon’s gone, but someone’s determined to keep his legacy at Bayview High alive. And the rules have changed.

Guys, I’ve gotten pretty old and grumpy in my reading. There’s just a point at which you’ve read so much you feel like nothing is surprising anymore. I had just put down a very blah book when I picked up this one, and thank goodness I did pick it up because it was a balm on my wounded, grouchy soul.
My absolute FAVORITE thing about Karen’s books is that I know, going in, that I will be in excellent hands. I will be shocked. I will gasp. I will laugh. I will cringe and yell at the characters. I will not be subjected to endless exposition or meaningless conversation. Why? Because Karen is a consistently wonderful writer and ONE OF US IS NEXT is no different. Even when I thought I knew what was going on, I didn’t know what was going on. The family relationships in this book are beautifully done, and the suspense is killer (lolol sorry I couldn’t resist). I finished the book in a night because I NEEDED to know what would happen.
If you’re a fan of Karen’s other books, you’ll love this. If you’ve never read her other books, you’ll love this. She just knows how to spin a hell of a tale.
When I finished this book I thought, ‘it’s not that good’ and ‘I like the first one better’, but it’s still good and at the end it made me want to read back and see if I could spot the things that could lead up to the end.
Such a great follow up to One of Us is Lying; it was so original! I’m so glad that is not what my high school was like!
Okay, wow! I could not stop thinking about the last few pages of this book for weeks afterwards! I did NOT see that coming. It was nice to see the characters again from One of Us is Lying, especially Mauve. Karen McManus has a way of constantly surprising me no matter how much I guess.
4.5/5 Stars
This book was everything I wanted it to be and more.
The book starts off with a quick little recap of the last book and an introductory anonymous text chat (only about 4 pages total). We then dive into the perspective of a character named Maeve (Bronwyn’s little sister). The book switches between the POVs of the 3 main characters (Maeve, Phoebe, and Knox). I normally don’t like reading books with multiple POVs but the way McManus wrote them was beautiful. There were never any dull chapters you wanted to skip over, and I always felt that that person’s take on the specific chapter was crucial to the storyline.
To sum up the book (no spoilers ofc) there is a copycat of Simon Keller’s About That (a Bayview High gossip forum), however this time it is in the form of Truth or Dare. Unknown (as they are referred to in the book) will send out a text to a random Bayview student saying “truth or dare”. That student then has 24 hours to respond. If they fail to respond, Unknown will reveal a secret about them to everyone. This book takes you through the process of how Bayview deals with the game’s consequences as well as how the characters work to unravel the identity of Unknown.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and would not put the book down. The ending had me completely shocked and my heart was physically racing, along with the characters themselves. The plot twists that McManus included were insane and I can wholeheartedly say that I had no idea what was coming next.
I will say that this book was a bit slower-paced than I originally wanted (hence why I rated it 4.5/5) but it was never too slow to the point where I felt that it was dragging on. Towards the middle, it really started picking up, and by the end, I was absolutely mesmerized.
I HIGHLY recommend this book if you like a good YA Thriller (and even if you don’t). McManus’s writing was a work of art and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the future.
So this was good, but not as good as I hoped it would be.
This story has us reading about the same kids. This time there is a new game to be played, though no one wants to play. Revenge is the name of the game.
I did like the twists and that I did not have a clue who was the mastermind working with the guy hosting the game. When all was revealed, I was shocked and amazed! Then a side twist made it even more shocking!
Still, the first half of the story was a little boring. I felt like it took a minute to gain momentum. And the very end felt like it sped up really fast just to get the story over with. Maybe it’s me, but consitency is key.
I don’t know that I would read another if this series had a book 3. It’s kind of done over now. Y’know what I mean?!
Great follow up to “One of Us is Lying.” Didn’t see the final little twist at the end coming!
I thought that this was a good sequel to One Of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus. It was a little predictable towards the end but overall really good. Highly recommend.
Exciting and just as mysterious as the first book in the series. Although I still love One of Us is Lying so much better. One of Us Is Lying adds the same touch we get in the first book, but a neat spin by adding in a truth or dare aspect. But its clear there is so much more going on that what meets the eye. I loved the little detective that Maeve is and I was all in some more of that.
Things built up very nicely and I liked how things slowly unfolded and the pieces started slowly fitting together. And I have to boy did they come together in the craziest of ways and I was not expecting the outcome that unfolded. Very nice. I felt for each character and how the truth or dare game affected each of them and brought them together. It definitely didn’t hit me the way the group banded together in the first book and I liked all those characters individually.
There is no doubt that One of Us Is Lying was as exciting as I was hoping for it to be. I really love this series.
It’s a little terrifying to read a sequel of a book you adored because you’re afraid you won’t like it. That is absolutely NOT the case for One of Us is Lying. This story is completely as original, suspenseful, and addicting as the first book. The characters were beautifully written, the pace right on, and the ending perfect! I can’t wait for whatever Ms. McManus writes next.
Omg i dont think i have ever felt this way about a book. I read the first one because my parents wanted me to read more and i loved it!!! When i found out that a sequel came out i had to check it out. So far i have read this book 3 times each time more interesting. The characters are AMAZING and i can not WAIT for the next one to come out!!!
Karen has done it again. One of Us is Next, her follow-up to One of Us is Lying, didn’t disappoint. As with the first book, the story hooked me from the beginning, with engaging, well-rounded characters and a story line that kept me turning the pages, wanting to see what happens next. Karen definitely knows how to write a great thriller! Highly recommend.
This one was better than the first one, and I thought it was pretty great. I LOVED the ending of this one. This could be a movie, and it would also be just sexy enough, just suspenseful enough, with a few things you could maybe guess and several you wouldn’t see coming. Definitely carry on, Karen! I’m really excited for you with your journey of having these books published. I’ll keep looking for you for sure. Thanks for a fabulous read during the coronavirus episode we’re having right now. I’m really glad we had checked out this book from the library before it (and mostly everything around here) closed for however long it’s going to end up being.
Move over Agatha Christie, Karen M. McManus is the new Queen of Mystery.
McManus is so fantastic at setting tone and the characters she writes make you feel like you wish you knew these people. You want them in your life, you sympathize with them, you love them. They leap right off the page.
It was a lot of fun seeing the Bayview Four again. But even more so it was lovely getting to know the new set of characters. The Bayview Four are very minor in this story, and that’s a good thing. You really feel like you want to concentrate on and care for the new guys.
I will say, this is the first time I’ve read a book by McManus and I had figured out “whodunit” and the big twist at the end. I didn’t figure out the motive though, so that reveal knocked the wind out of me. I never fault a book when I figure it out. I’ve read and watched mysteries for over 20 years, so my experience sometimes helps me to solve the case.
This was very much a five star read for me with the exception of one thing. I can’t say what it is because it’s a massive spoiler. I’ll just say that while I was reading, and I was figuring things out, I said to myself “if this turns out to be true, I’m going to be pissed.” And it turned out to be true. It’s all very much a personal preference thing, so it will probably only bother me. Because that one aspect is really not sitting well with me, I had to knock a star off.
A really good sequel to One of Us is Lying. This time the game is truth or dare. Many twists and turns in this book. Liked the revisitation of characters. The ending was quite surprising as I would have never suspected that person causing hate and problems. What is next for Ms. McManus? Whatever it is, I will be reading it.
Once again Karen McManus pulls the reader into the world of teen gossip at Bayview. This sequel does not disappoint. Loved it
Listened to the audiobook and couldn’t stop. Not until I knew how it all came together.
I really enjoyed this sequel to One of Us is Lying, and revisiting the characters. In this novel, someone is out for revenge and decides to play a nasty game of Truth or Date.
This is an intricate novel of teenage angst, coming of age, teen romance, revenge, and the dangers of social media and too much text communication. Widespread rumors ruining reputations are too easy on technology platforms.

The sequel to One of Us Is Lying. The Bayview Four have graduated and moved on, but a new “Unknown” is taking over with a game of Truth or Dare that turns deadly. Maeve, one of the Bayview Fours little sister gets targeted by unknown and along the way she makes friends that she never let herself make before. Alternating between Maeve, Knox & Phoebe this book doesn’t disappoint.
