Rumors and affairs immediately leak, but things turn explosive when Kit Manning’s handsome husband, Dr. Greg Strasser, is found murdered. Kit’s sister, Willa, returns for the funeral, setting foot in a hometown she fled fifteen years ago, after a night she wishes she could forget. As an investigative reporter, Willa knows something isn’t right about the night Greg was killed, and she’s determined to find the truth. What she doesn’t expect is that everyone has something to hide. And with a killer on the loose, Willa and Kit must figure out who killed Greg before someone else is murdered.
Told from multiple points of view, Reputation is full of twists, turns, and shocking reveals. It’s a story of intrigue, sabotage, and the secrets we keep—and how far we go to keep them hidden. Number one bestseller Sara Shepard is at the top of her game in this brand-new adult novel.

Sara Shepard reaches delicious, vicious heights with Reputation. I felt like I was sucked into a video game, slipping into different skins in every chapter. It’s the love child of Dead to Me and Scream, a creepy tale about modern technology and good old fashioned human flaws. We’re so lucky that Shepard is out there watching the way we live, seeing the best in us, and oh yes, the cringe-inducing, often laugh out loud worst as well.
Deliciously diabolical. Shepard spares no one in this breakneck thriller as dark secrets and shocking scandals lead to murder.
What an addictive, juicy novel, with a whip-cracking plot full of twists and turns. Reputation is packed to bursting with all of the best elements of commercial fiction. Read this one!
This book started out so promising and the premise was instantly engaging, but in the end, there was just too much happening for me – too many massive secrets, too many grand reveals, and too much drama to the point where even I had trouble suspending my disbelief. The author’s note says it was originally meant to be a TV series and I can totally see it being successful as a dark, atmospheric thriller-romance on ABC Family. That form would suit the story better than I think a novel could.
I really enjoyed this one. Everyone was a suspect in the murder of a prominent cardiologist and everyone’s reputation is at stake. A page-turner!
Great read! The author had me guessing all the way through the book with lots of red herrings!
A modern murder mystery that exposes our deepest fears about how vulnerable we are to the parts of ourselves we hide online. As the secrets pile up, Shepard writes her calculating anti-heroines with sharp clarity, daring the reader to keep pace alongside her. I, for one, was breathless.
Reputation by Sara Shepard (yes, that Sara Shepard, author of the Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game, along with a bunch of other YA novels) is her third adult novel. I haven’t read any of those, but I did enjoy watching Pretty Little Liars. All that drama, mystery, and fashion kept me entertained week after week.
Reputation is a fast paced mystery with lots of drama and a touch of suspense. And by suspense, I mean, the various characters kept repeating, almost as an afterthought, “There’s a killer still on the loose.” At no time was I feeling like the killer would strike again and I don’t really thought the characters felt that way either. They were more concerned about what dark secrets from their emails might come spilling out into the world.
I did enjoy the emails for Aldrich University, along with some other well known universities, getting hacked and put up on a server for all to see. I felt like it was very relevant to today’s society and it added an extra layer to the storyline.
There were some twists, but the only one that surprised me, although I wasn’t even really concerned about who made it happen, was in regards to the leaked emails. I was 40% into Reputation when I texted my podcast partner for Books Don’t Review Themselves, and told her what I thought about two main things that had happened. And although I was wrong in regards to who did one of the things, I did get the killer correct and I already knew the reason. Even with knowing the killer so early on it was still enjoyable reading the rest of the book since a new secret seemed to come out every other chapter.
If you enjoy Sara Shepard’s books, especially the Pretty Little Liars series, you’ll want to give this one a read.
Reputation by Sara Shepard explores university life at its worst for both students and administration amidst a widely publicized and life-changing university hack. Watching Shepard’s characters unfold and witnessing the choices they make to preserve their values was quite the ride and well worth the twisty read! A solid four-stars!
How important is your reputation, and what would you do to protect it? There comes a point when enough is enough. Most everyone has or will experience that one defining moment, their make or break moment. While we can’t always control what happens to us, we can control how we choose to react. Do we choose to defend our reputation or protect our self-image? Does it matter more how everyone else sees you or how you see yourself?
Part One of Reputation is a highly engaging introduction into the world of those most affected by the Aldrich University email hack! It’s written from five differing perspectives and reads like a made for tv drama, which works perfectly for a Pretty Little Liars fan such as myself! Motives and emotions run high as scandals are uncovered left and right. One thing’s clear amidst all of the drama and uncertainty; everyone has a secret. Part one reveals just how unaware they all are of their connections to one another… until someone ends up dead. Cue prominent surgeon, Dr. Greg Strasser.
As the book progresses into Part Two, every chapter carefully ends with a cliffhanger, set on nudging the reader forward and across the finish line. I stayed up way too late because I just had to know the identity of the killer. Several times I thought I had it figured out, but the truth was much better! The only downfall, the single aspect that didn’t work well for me, was the number of twists and reveals. I enjoyed them all, but it felt a bit much at some points. There’s also a case of the mystery texter/caller, which I felt could have been left out. However, if you can stretch your mind and try and place yourself within Aldrich University with your reputation under fire, then you’re in for a real treat! This novel is one you won’t want to miss!
Reputation runs deep with scandals, cover-ups, secrets, and lies. I’d especially recommend this book to Sara Shepard’s already large fan base; it’s right up there with Pretty Little Liars and The Perfectionists. The main difference being that Reputation is an adult novel; it is not a YA novel. If you’re looking for an intriguing read that explores multiple storylines within today’s ever-connected social media-obsessed society, then take a chance on Reputation. A little tip, take a few notes or make a few highlights along the way as it will help keep the many character narrations straight.

I always like to read a few reviews of a book before I post my review (but never before I read it) to see what other people thought of it. I’m surprised at how many people disliked the level of crazy going on in this book, I mean, everyone had a secret, or they were plotting and conniving, and it was wonderful!!
Aldrich University has been hacked and the emails everyone thought were private, are out there for anyone to read. Secrets they thought were buried are coming to the surface and the entire school is on edge. Reputation is told in multiple points of view though I tended to lean towards Kit as our main character, and then everyone else’s story sort of revolved around her.
I don’t want to tell you about each of these women’s quirks because I feel it will spoil the multitude of twists that are in Reputation. But I can tell you what I thought of Kit’s husband, Greg, and he was a slimy, cheating bastard who was involved with so many people because of his position at the hospital it’s no wonder that the storyline revolves around him and Kit.
Because this was an advanced copy from Dutton, I know there are going to be spelling mistakes and whatnot, (and there were) but Shepard wrote the word Patrick 13 times in a matter of a few paragraphs, and I think she could pull out half of those and write the word he, it was a bit overkill. (I probably wouldn’t have counted but it was distracting).
I think outside of that easily fixable gripe, this was such a fun read. I found myself wonderfully hating the levels these women went, to get what they want, to arrange an outcome or a situation in favor for themselves, and I think Shepard wrote them so well. The storyline is super fun, it’s well written and twisty and you’re not entirely sure what’s going to happen.
