This is the first Christian Historical book I’ve read and I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not, but WOW it beat any expectations I had. The author spins an excellent story of two people separated by circumstances beyond their control. One to the war, the other plagued by a so-called family curse.
Alison Schuyler, an artist from the Netherlands …
As with many fictional stories from this time in history the atrocities of war really stood out. But in the midst of the valleys was the hope of love and better days. Alison and Ian meet early in the story and their love story was developed throughout the several years of war. Note: I received this book complimentary in a giveaway. I was not …
This book is so good and well written, but it’s not one I’ll probably reread. The best I can explain without spoilers is that there were several very sad parts. It made the story realistic and complex, but it was sad (and that’s not really my preference for what I read). I loved Ian, Trish, Mark, Will, Hannah, Libby, Alison, and the good …
I found this to be a very engaging read. There were times when I had to remind myself that this was “just a story” even though I have read some accounts of actual/documented horrors of WW2. This novel is set during a very unfortunate era in history where inhumanity was rampant in Nazi Germany, and there are some occurrences of cruelty portrayed. I …
A page-turner!
Alison Schuyler meets British Lieutenant Ian Devlin in a train station. She falls in love with him for championing a young boy transported by the unrest settling over Europe in 1939. But she parts from Ian with a heavy heart—even if he can find a way to survive the coming hostilities, she’ll never rise above her family’s …
Wonderful historical fiction set in WWII. Strong characters. Courageous characters trying to protect their world of art. Characters made hard choices on what matters. Loved this book. Wish there was a book 2 to begin right now.
What an incredible story. I was gripped from the get-go. Alison and Ian’s story is so precious and yet heartwrenching. The struggles, the reality of war, the cruelty of the times… oh my goodness. I wanted to yell at the characters, I laughed, I giggled, I gasped and cried. All the feels are in this one. The research that had to have gone into …
I adored this book! It was such a great plot and I love WWII. I highly recommend this!
