I loved this book, couldn’t put it down. My poor husband commented that the book must be engrossing because I hadn’t came up for air since starting it… guess he had been trying to get my attention and failed. I told him it was an author I had never heard of and book reminded me of some of Dean Koontz’s work. After finishing it, I went to Amazon and bought each of my daughters a copy, it was THAT good!!
This is the second book I’ve read from this author and I enjoyed it! He seems to excel in the supernatural/thriller genre! It’s a change from the typical crime and mystery thrillers! This one pits brother and sister against each other each having the ability of delivering life or death with a touch or whispered words, the realization of a third sibling, and one member within reach of the second highest office in the States!
This flows smoothly from beginning to end, great character development, good action scenes, sibling rivalry at its best! I briefly wondered how a person running for VP of the US could keep their past hidden as one character is able to do here. That pondered, I moved on and it didn’t distract from the entertaining storyline! T.F. Allen has moved onto my list of authors to follow and look forward to his future works!
Luke works at a hospital as a janitor, but he’s no ordinary janitor. He has a power. With it, he can heal people by touch alone, and he has a knack for healing those close to death. One day though, those powers get him caught by a nurse. He knows it’s time to move on because staying in place could help his sister find him. The one who wishes to kill him. His sister is gifted too, but unlike him, her gifts help her to destroy.
I loved the good versus evil struggle throughout the story. Especially where it contrasts in Luke and Annamaria (his sister). Where Luke is good, she is evil. In a lot of paranormal stories, there are superheroes who are able to heal, but not very many villains who can whisper an illness and set it into motion. I thought that was an interesting touch. Plenty of twists and turns throughout the story.
T.F. Allen has a way of building up the characters and the world before diving into the action, and I love that. I’ve only read one other book by this author, but I can say that I will keep an eye out for books by them in the future.
The narrator did a fantastic job as well.

Here, Luke Johnson works as the night janitor at the hospital. Luke has a special power to heal by touch and as he works he will heal those who are very sick or dying. When Luke’s abilities create too much attention, he just moves on. At his current job, he touches a patient and is caught by a nurse. Luke knows that he needs to move on because his sister, Annamaria, is trying to find him to kill him. She also has a special ability to kill by simply whispering a disease and then touching her target. Annamaria has tracked down their father and used her powers to kill him. The father tracks down a
Youtuber to record his story – and he confesses the special abilities
of his children. Now Luke is being tracked not only by his sister but by the Youtuber. Can he outwit everyone and stay alive?
This is a classic good v. evil battle. Both Luke and Annamaria are really well developed in a unique story. It will certainly make you think about how you would wield these unique powers – and the burden that comes with it. This is an engrossing story with twists which keep you glued to the story. This is my second book by this author and really enjoyed it.
I listened to this story – The narrator was great and complimented the written word with his narration. I can still hear the slightly creepy whisper of a disease by Annamaria as she killed people. Well done.
This is an excellent new idea and it was very well written. Kept me at the edge of my seat throughout the story! I loved the way the author told this story and how he brought the characters to life – enough to scare me to death! Well, almost death! So good!

This story is actually about sister vs brother in a rather unique way. One is good, one is bad. Each knows the other’s secrets and yet the hunt is on. A great thriller story that will get your attention from the very start and won’t let go until the end. This is a new to me author, and the story is very good. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.
Interesting supernatural take on a dysfunctional family dynamic.
Well, this was a fun read! I was quickly hooked and wondered if the janitor were an unreliable narrator or on the level. He and his compatriots were a fun and believable group, and I would be happy to read more about their ongoing adventures. I appreciated that many of my early assumptions about “what the story would be about” and who would be important were not correct.
*spoilers*
I almost wish the big bad hadn’t been stopped, so we could see more of her rise to power and feud with her brothers, but feel sure Allen could have more tricks up their sleeve. I need them to, because I liked the characters that much.

Great read! Totally absorbing with better action than a Colt 45!!!!
Good vs. evil; dark vs. light
Lucian and Annamaria’s father was a con man, a charlatan, moving his wife and children around the country and bilking people out of money all while claiming to be a faith healer.
Little did he realize that his children actually had paranormal abilities. Annamaria can hurt or even kill people with a touch and a whisper while Lucian actually can heal people just by touching them.
When Annamaria is 13 years old, the parents desert their children, afraid of Annamaria’s abilities.
Nowadays, while Lucian “Luke” travels around the country working at lowly positions in hospitals and nursing homes, healing people and then moving on when his results start to get noticed, Annamaria gains status and power and looks endlessly for her father and her older brother with thoughts of vengeance foremost in her plans.
I loved this book. The author did a wonderful job in fleshing out all of the characters in the story, giving background and motivation.
The story itself reminded me of some of Dean Koontz’s books – the ones that got me hooked on him in the first place.
The story travels through Texas and into Mexico and the settings are a big part of the story.
I highly recommend this story if you like psychological thrillers with a paranormal slant.
I received this book from Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
