The Rebel is the first book in the Mesa Falls series and is a great beginning into a new and intriguing series! Marcus Salazar is a co-owner of a media company with his half brother Devon. Their father has recently passed away and the two men have a meeting set up in Montana at Mesa Falls to discuss some undisclosed personal business left behind by their father. Devon is out of the country and sends his COO and personal friend Lily Carrington to handle his brother. Lily is a consummate professional in business and sadly in her personal life as well. She is engaged to a long time friend that her grandparents approve of and is more interested in pleasing her family then finding her passion. Marcus has always admired Lily from afar but has kept his distance knowing that she was taken and not being the kind of man that was looking for a long term relationship. One very interesting week spent at Mesa Falls is going to create big changes in Marcus, Devon and Lily’s lives. The Rebel is loaded with family drama and secrets and will have you anticipating the next story as much as I am.
This book is so good. I loved Marcus and Lily and they way the communicated with each other. Some books you get couples tip-toeing around what they want to say or feel but these two say how it is. Marcus has trust issues because he feels Lily is spying for his brother Devon. I loved the line at the end when Lily asked him if she hadn’t answered the door for 3 days….she needed him and he wasn’t there. Joanne delivers stories that feel so real.
Whenever I can catch this author’s books I jump right in. So when I seen this one I jumped right in. I found it extra interesting because several years ago worked with a Salazar and they are business driven as the ones portrayed in this are. Marcus and Lily have us following them through this struggle in the business world. The banter and the chemistry have you watching them closely. This is also a good one to get readers hooked into a new series. Mesa Falls will be a place you were glad you came to and one you would visit again. Another plus is you could say this is a second chance also. Delight in this one from beginning to end.
The Rebel is the first book in the Dynasties: Mesa Falls series. I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. It gives us a good look into the series. I can’t wait to see what happens in book two.
Marcus Salazar doesn’t do releationships. He definitely doesn’t do love. He has no time for either while running the family business on the West Coast.
Lily Carrington is a mojor complication he didn’t plan on. She not only works for his brother in the East Coast office, but she’s also engaged to be married.
When she show up in his brother’s place at the ranch to help close a deal with the owners, Marcus is not happy. He decides to spend time with her to see if he can find out what his brother has up his sleeve.
Will the time they spend together cause Marcus to change his thoughts about love? Or will his father’s secrets detroy any idea of what family truly means?
I was gifted a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.
I liked this book and thought it was a solid start to this new series. There is a lot of groundwork laid for the series in this book and that, I felt bogged things down a bit. I enjoyed Marcus and I admired his principles. As for Lily, I thought she was OK but she was so weak that she didn’t hold a lot of appeal for me. The storyline was well written and offers a good amount of drama, emotions and tension. All together I thought this was an enjoyable read and I am excited to see what happen in the future books in this series.
This book pulled me right into the story of two half brothers who each run part of Salazar Media on different coasts. The romance between one brother, Marcus and Lily Carrington, the other brother’s right hand was full of chemistry and sparks were definitely flying. There was so much intrigue and suspense too about their late father’s will and papers and where their father got his money. You will have to read the next book to solve the mystery of Regina Flores, who is spying on the brothers and Lily at the Mesa Falls Ranch in Montana. Salazar Media is doing business with the ranch. I really liked the ending and look forward to the next book. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This was the perfect start to the series as we not only get 2 people fighting their attraction to each other but the base to an on going storyline. Marcus and Devon have what I would call a complex relationship and I think if either of them actually sat down and talked they would find they might actually like each other, not only do they have a fiery relationship but they are also dealing with the death of their farther. If that wasn’t enough Marcus is stuck at Mesa Falls Ranch with Lily his brothers right hand woman and is torn between not trusting her and fighting his attraction to her. This draws you in, leaves you satisfied and also wanting the next book asap to see what will happen next!
4 1/2 STARS!
THE REBEL is book one in the brand new Dynasties: Mesa Falls series from Joanne Rock and based on this first peek into the world, it promises to be filled with lots of drama and passion! Forbidden love is top of mind as we meet Marcus and Lily and watch them try to resist temptation.
Marcus is determined to take control of the business he brainstormed into existence even if he has to go through his difficult half-brother to do so. They grew up estranged amid family drama and still have no use for each other as adults.
Lily is his brother’s friend and former assistant/turned COO of said company and is being sent by his brother Devon to fill in for him when he’s delayed for their big meeting. Lily thinks her loyalty is to Devon until the feelings she tries to bury for Marcus flood to the surface and refuse to take no for an answer.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys some family drama along with their romance. The story was fresh and satisfying, and the underlying mystery with their late father is carrying forward through the series. Really enjoyed it!
A story of family; brothers competing against each other and a woman who loves one brother so completely even though that brother believes she has betrayed him. He realizes he loves her and she loves him and that truly is all that matters.
The Rebel is the first book by Joanne Rock that I have read and I loved it. Marcus and Lily are both a force to reckon with. When Marcus sees what he wants, he goes for it. Reading about these two was extremely enjoyable and I’m excited for more.
Though the story centers around Marcus Salazar and Lily Carrington, it’s also the platform to introduce the readers to the new series and what might be coming up in the future.
Marcus is part of the Salazar Media and has come to the retreat/ranch focused on talking to his half-brother Devon . When Devon is stuck in India and can’t get to the ranch, he sends his COO, Lily.
While the attraction is evident, she’s with another man . A line Marcus will not cross. In the meantime, Lily, even in a powerful position, seems to constantly yearn for approval.
It was interesting to watch these two interact.
The story was good and the characters complex.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
“The Rebel” by Joanne Rock begins the Dynasties: Mesa Falls miniseries and introduces us to Marcus Salazar of Salazar Media and Lily Carrington, who works with Marcus’s brother, Devon.
Marcus and Lily are at Mesa Falls Ranch to help promote the ranch as a corporate retreat.
Marcus has been attracted to Lily since they met years ago. She wasn’t available so he put his attraction on the back burner.
Lily makes decisions based on what others think she should do, but a conversation with Marcus helps her reevaluate those choices and give in to what she wants. Marcus being one of those things.
While I enjoyed Ms. Rock’s previous books, sadly I can’t say the same for “The Rebel”.
This book feels more like a set-up to the other books in the series, with the romance as secondary. There is a lot of narrative where Marcus and Lily spend more time thinking about each other than actually being with each other.
Though “The Rebel” is not on my “best of” list, I am curious where Ms. Rock takes us next with Devon and the other members of Mesa Falls Ranch.
I liked this book. Not a lot of excitement
Rock kicks off a new series with a bang. The Rebel is everything you love about a Desire title with a Rock twist. I can’t wait to see all the secrets come to light in Mesa Falls as this Dynasty plays out.
