‘Garth’ is the sixth book in Kathi S. Barton’s “Bentley Legacy”. If you’ve followed the series then you’ll remember that the queen has rewarded Dark for her loyalty and commitment in handling the situation with Carol, Coleen’s great-aunt. Well, that reward was in the form of granting Dark her biggest wish; being able to be human. But now that Dark has her wish, she’s truly regretting it. Everything is harder than she thought it would be and she’s finding it hard to fit in. She’s not much of a talker, as a matter of fact, most of the Bentley family Intimidates her and she finds it difficult to talk to any of them, except maybe Grandda and Grandma. Taking a job at Faerie Tales and Dreams, Pip lets her work in the back with the plants and the other faeries. When Garth’s house catches fire, Pip suggests to Dark that perhaps Garth could stay with her for about a week until the insurance is settled since both her and Garth like the quiet and he could perhaps help her learn how to use the appliances in her own home. Begrudgingly, Dark agrees but when she eventually goes home that evening and walks in to find Garth cooking they both recognize each other as mates. She was a warrior; he was an investment guru. They were as different as night and day. Boyd’s time has come and my heart broke for Reggie but the emotion, respect, loyalty, and love showed to him and the family brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Shane has turned eighteen and now, after having named his dragon, has become a part of him. After all this time, we find out Aurora, Queen of the Faeries has a brother!! Oh, doesn’t every family have one of these to one degree or another? Not only that, but Aurora adds members to her family. And do you remember Rylee’s friend Barron, the vampire? Well, he comes to the family’s aid and we get a bit of his genealogy. What a family tree he has! And poor Micah. It’s hard to come to terms with your own insecurities and have to admit them to not only someone else but face them. Can he do that in time to keep his family and leap together? And Walter finally gets some closure and comes face to face with himself and the realization of who he is. And once again, Ms. Barton brings things full circle, tied neatly in a bow with love garnishing the top. What a terrific ending.
With the rest of his brother’s happily married and mated, Garth is the last Bentley to find his mate. But he’s not in a rush. He’s lived his life as a ladies man and is living his life with is money he makes. When his house burns down, not only is he left without a home, but he’s now rooming with a woman who make his cat sit up and claim “mate”!
Dark has gone above and beyond for the Queen of Fairies, her last assignment, helping out the Bentley’s, has now given her a chance to get her wish from the queen. Dark wishes to be a human. But after weeks of trying, she’s starting to think she made a mistake, until she meets her new roommate. Garth is everything Dark never hoped to have as a Warrior Fairy.
Problems are still on the horizon though for the Bentley’s. The Queen of Fairies brother returns to try and take the throne, vampires are stealing one of the sons, and Micah and Dark can’t find an even ground on protecting the family.
I’m sad to see another series come to an end, but I have to say it was awesome to see everyone finally getting to live a “normal” life.
