Jeremiah Poe isn’t just any character in the Realm of Fiction.; he is The Muse Rider, written with special powers. Able to tap into the minds of other Scribblers, Poe can change the outcome of people’s lives in their own stories. But when Poe learns that ancient codes are being broken in his realm and that his Scribbler may be in danger, he reverses the 8-fold way and goes to Earth to find him. … find him.
But when he arrives, he’s astonished to learn that his Scribbler knows nothing of his actual existence, or his entire fictional world, Octava. To further complicate his confoundment, he learns that his Scribbler is not a he, but a she.
As they team up to find what’s destroying their realms, Poe’s powers on Earth grow stronger. But it’s his growing feelings for his Scribbler that become the greatest threat of all. With his character being designed to never fall in love, he can’t exist in either realm. And his Scribbler is forced to pen the impossible into his world.

I can honestly say this is the most original story I have read in a very long time. It starts off a little slow but we have to understand there is so much world building going on.
I have to admit I liked seeing how Poe’s Scribbler used him. How she played the innocent teacher. It wasn’t all moonlight and roses. Well, because she didn’t know how to write romance in fiction or reality and neither did he. The story stealer was Kane. Such a sweet, innocent lad. Even if he came from Horror.
Need more laughs though. Seriously! Poe becomes human and has issues with waste disposal and no jokes were made? Except about the prostate but that wasn’t very funny. Oh, does Kane’s hair ever get washed?
Anyway, I secretly get the feeling Mr. Bane was thinking about his nephew Little Man and somehow this story was born. I feel the characters of this story are based loosely on the author’s family and himself. Just a thought.
Oh, huge spoiler….if you are used to the more erotic books by this author, sorry to disappoint. No graphic sex here. Sex yes but not graphic.
What would you do if you were an author and one of your paper children showed up on your doorstep? How would that event make you feel? What if this was a character you had never published? How would this character fit in with all the other characters which you had published? Jeremiah is that character. He shows up on his Scribbler’s doorstep blinded by the transition from his familiar world to this one. He experiences great shock when he asks for his Scribbler by name and discovers that name is a pseudonym used by the young woman who lives in the house he has found. Then we find that Kane has come with Jeremiah. Kane is a 7-year-old who has been rescued from a hospital/laboratory by Jeremiah who has scars from the first of the medical experiments that have been performed on him. How would a paper man and child interact in this world if they suddenly had flesh and bone bodies here and a quest that involves the Scribbler in what they need to do? Interesting premise. A character driven book. I enjoyed it and I think you will too. Cliffhanger ending.
I’ve been wanting to read a book by this author for years. After a recommendation by a Goodreads friend I chose this one and dug in. And holy heck! It was freaking amazing!
This was everything I needed in a fantasy romance and so much more. I loved the other worldly feel of Octava as well as Poe’s reactions and thoughts regarding the various characters and areas found there. This has a touch of humor, immense steam, mystery and drama. And then the very best of endings, considering it ends on a cliffhanger which I despise but was so glad to run off of, bringing a dark danger into this fantastical world.
There are no words to describe this book except unique in the very best of ways and with a true love story that took me completely by surprise with the emotions it wrought within me. I will definitely be reading the next book and highly recommend this for anyone wanting a great fantasy read that is completely original in every way.
What an amazing read this was…. Mr. Bane never ceases to amaze me with his stories/ well written with characters that draw you in and keep you intrigued from beginning to end. Excited to see where this series goes.
