“No strings, no rings.” That’s Luke Archer’s motto. As the champion quarterback for the New York Empire—not to mention a self-made billionaire—Luke has given up on serious relationships. Women only want him for one thing: the thrill of being with a superstar. And he likes it that way too. But when his best friend announces he’s retiring from football to spend time with his wife and kids, Luke … feels like he’s missing out on something much bigger than his career.
The assistant concierge in Luke’s luxury high-rise, Miranda Tate fled her family’s dairy farm to come to the bright lights of New York City. She works hard to move up and sends her spare earnings home to her brother. When she and Luke meet, there’s an instant sexual attraction which turns steamy quickly, but they’re in completely different leagues. Could Miranda be just the woman Luke needs to win the most important game of his life?

Loved it! Even if you didn’t read the first one you will not be lost but do yourself a favor and read the first book in this series! Luke Archer is a star quarterback and feeling pulled in all directions, holding his team together, keeping his brother on track, hiding his maybe injury, and figuring out what is going on with his game and then he meets Miranda Tate the building concierge and he is smitten. She really knows nothing about football but her nephew and brother are big fans and when Luke sends tickets for a game he pulls out all the stops for them. Will they be able to keep it professional or not? This one was listened to in audio and I loved it!!!
Absolutely loved this book & would definitely read the author again! It was my first book for her & I loved the characters & wonderful way the entire plot & romance were set up ! Very sexy & smart !!
The All-Star Antes Up is another gem of a story by Nancy Herkness. Her Wager of Hearts series involves 3 wealthy men who meet in a club one night and all were lamenting the fact that they didn’t know if women loved them for their money or with their hearts. The group of men are wide and varied in background but suffer the same problem. There is a CEO of a major company, an All-Star Quarterback who is loved by many, and a famous writer who is in the middle of writer’s block. They make a substantial and meaningful bet among themselves in order to be the one who can prove that each of the woman he meets, indeed, loves him for himself. This is the second book in the trilogy and tells the story of the beloved quarterback, Luke, and the concierge Miranda who is expert at handling people and their requests at the Pinnacle, a high end condominium building. Their lives cross when Luke’s brother, Trevor, makes an indecent request of her. Luke apologizes to Miranda that Trevor will never do anything like that again. From that point on, they are both aware of one another and their relationship grows with a few bumps along the way and some of the sweetest, too. As you read, the main feeling that you get is that Miranda doesn’t think a gorgeous football star could love her and he’s hurt that she keeps walking away from him. The snarky and sarcastic attitudes and words that fly by give the book a light-hearted, can’t-help-but-smile feel. Nancy Herkness writes with much clarity and quality and it makes you enjoy the book that much more. You cannot go wrong with this book! I Although it’s not necessary for the understanding of this book, I suggest reading The CEO buys in. It gives you so much background as you follow these men from the beginning. What’s in store for best-selling author, Gavin Miller? I can’t wait to find out. Enjoy!
