In the town of Castle Rock, many residents live a fairy tale life but not all get a fairy tale ending.“Those who get lost in Siren Woods are never seen again.”Words Michael and Monica have lived by long before three children were found murdered within its depths. Twenty years later, it’s a warning heeded by all of Castle Rock.So what was Harper Rowe doing there? And more importantly, who killed … doing there? And more importantly, who killed her?
After the Grimm siblings take the case, they discover that the intrepid reporter was writing an article on the twenty-year-old tragedy. A wound that never truly healed as the main suspect, Liam Antarr, was arrested back then for abandoning his children in the woods, but police had never been able to find the evidence to show that wasn’t his only crime against children.
With Antarr back in town and the details of Harper’s murder coming to light, the Grimms are forced to wonder if her death has as much to do with the past as it does with the present. Hot on Harper’s trail, they stumble on a reclusive candy-maker, a lonely cabin in the woods, and a steely-eyed woodworker, but it’s up to the Grimms to find out what really happened then and now. A fact that puts Micheal’s best friend and partner in the crosshairs.
In the biggest case of Grimm Investigations and Castle Rock history, will Michael find the proof that has eluded the police for two decades, before Monica becomes the next victim of the Siren Woods Killer?

This was the best book in the series so far. The twists and turns were ridiculous and I really liked Hazel. I’m feeling some kind of way about Monica and Spencer. I feel like she is betraying Michael. Poor Samira, but she wanted answers, just not the ones she received.

Just awesome for bending and twisting already sort of sick fairy tales around and making them even crazier. Not to say that this is not awesome, because it definitely is if you like those sorts of stories. As you can tell, I do. Another high recommendation from me! I did not read the first two books but it did not seem to impact this great book.

True to the series, D. E. Dennis brought the tale of Hansel and Gretel to us as a cozy mystery. This books reveals answers to many of the questions that readers have had since book one. The characters have evolved within themselves and each other. The wonderful writing of D. E. Dennis has this reader wanting more.

I am loving these twists on cozy mystery fairy tales. D. E. Dennis has a definite hit on her hands! I did guess who the killer was early on, so yay for me! Lol! But it was awesome reading how Michael and Monica got there. And we finally learn the secret as to why Michael broke up with Mira! Got to read all the way to the end, so pick up this book and read it!

Michael and Monica Grimm are private investigators for Grimm Investigations and work alongside Eleanore Glass, their assistant. Twenty years ago children were found murdered in woods and two children were found abandoned. There was an arrest but charges didn’t stick but no new children were killed. Recently a reporter writing a story that was going to profile the victims was murdered in the same woods. The mother of the reporter hires the P.I.s to find out who the killer is.
This is a creative contemporary adaptation of a Grimm Fairy Tale. It has a complex storyline filled with interesting and likeable characters, numerous side stories, an abundance of clues, and many twists and turns that lead to a great surprising climatic scene. It is extremely well written and uses wonderfully detailed descriptions and cleaver and witty dialogue to produce a smooth and easy to read storyline. The is an emotional component to this story that helps to make the tale more complete. It is storytelling at its finest.

D.E. Dennis takes on another fairy tale in this installment of the Fairy Tale Mystery series, a clever retelling with a surprise ending. The Grimms are hired to find the culprit behind a murder that is wrapped up in a cold case but is there more to the story everyone believes? This is a refreshing change from the standard cozy mystery formula and I look forward to more books in the series.

Fairy tales as told by the Brothers Grimm were more than a little bloody, often more than a little violent, and had pretty intense object lessons. A friend from former eastern Germany told me he was of fan of fairy tales until he had a little sister who was into the Mouseworld fancy dress up versions of the stories – the Grimm Brothers knew how to write blood and guts action. There is a big difference between a story that ends happily ever after, and a story that ends, and if they are not yet dead, thus they live today.
These contemporary fairy tales written by DE Dennis are also not Mouseworld stories.
The settings are often fantastical, but reflect real world pains and struggles. The Grimm siblings in these stories have suffered modern day alienation of affection, bullying, broken relationships, and seriously twisted family stuff – as well as an apparently ongoing issue with the woods. Whatever terrified them as children has lasting scars and echoes today, and might just ensure that events work out in a lethal way if Michael cannot use his amazing deductive powers effectively with the support of his gal and his family.
A great story, and a great series, if you like suspense filled action and emotion packed drama.
Great KU read!
