TOP TIP: Don’t put out an online ad offering your services as a fake date. Someone will take you up on it.And it won’t just be for one night. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I ended up being Mason Jackson’s fake girlfriend. He didn’t even want me to be. No—his sister was solely responsible for me being his date for his ten-year high school reunion. Now, she’s responsible for telling his … responsible for telling his parents our relationship is real.
We have no choice. We have to act like this isn’t all a mistake, like it’s not all fake, like we’re totally, completely, utterly, head-over-heels in love with each other.
Simple, right?
Wrong.

What happens when you have a girls’ night, some wine, and a bunch of girlfriends who want you to have a dating life (battery operated boyfriends do not count)? According to Lauren, a snarkily written Craigslist ad which happens to draw a pretty hot man who needs a fake girlfriend for a reunion. It was all fun and games until there’s a mom to impress. Mason is a pretty sweet guy who loves Lauren’s brand of humor. Plus hey have some great chemistry.
MASON: I think I’m getting used to your weird comparisons because I didn’t even blink twice at that.
LAUREN: It’s one of the best things about me. I’m like a tray of brownies. You don’t get to the really good bits until you reach the middle of it.
MASON: What if I prefer the crispy edges?
LAUREN: Then we’re a fake match in heaven. You can have the devil’s brownies, and I”ll have the soft, gooey ones in the middle.
So what could go wrong? That’s the fun of this story – seeing what could be so right and real. Sometimes things that started out by accident aren’t really a mistake at all.
Hart gives us lots of hijinks and hilarious one-liners, including a Henry, a feline with a peculiar penchant for specific seating, which will keep you snorting and giggling.
The Accidental Girlfriend is Emma Hart’s newest hilarious rom-com. I know when I open one of her Emma’s books I am about to laugh my ass off and fall in love at the same time. With the story. With the characters. With the writing. The synopsis is perfect so I will try to make this fast.
Lauren’s friends and sister want her to date. Mason’s family wants him to move on. During friends’ night an Ad is posted online. One fake date. She never thought someone would actually answer it. Well, someone did. For their brother. And he wasn’t happy about it. That was until she made a point. A date to his class reunion would piss his ex off. What he didn’t expect was to like his fake date. Not enough to make it a real one but it was enough to have a fun night. That was the deal. One night. That was until he turned into a fake relationship.
She didn’t want a boyfriend. He didn’t want a girlfriend. A fake one or not but they were stuck. And if they were going to pull this off then at least it would be with someone that made them laugh. And being hot AF helped too. Too bad one of the rules was to keep it PG. Will they break the rules? Of course. But that doesn’t mean it can be real, right?
OMFG! Lauren is definitely hard work as Mason would say and I loved it. She doesn’t make anything easy and it’s one of the Things I loved about her. And Mason…oh, Mason. He is just as much of a smartass. A hot smartass with a crazy ass family. Together, their banter is hilarious, sarcastic, and sweet. It’s also flirty and so much fun!
Overall…it’s hilarious, sweet, sexy, and fun. The characters are lovable and real. I might just have a lady crush on Lauren. I definitely love Mason.
Quotes:
“Listen—I was on Craigslist—”
“No good story ever started with that.”
“Your mind must be a wonderful place.”
“You have no idea.”
“Is there anything about her that’s simple?”
“No. She’s like a little labyrinth. Just when I think I’m breaking her down and finding something out about her, a fucking hedge pops up, and I can’t go any further.”
If you are looking for a fun entertaining read that will leave you smiling like a Cheshire Cat look no further than this book. Emma Hart is certainly the queen of romantic comedy and one liners and The Accidental Girlfriend has to be one of my favourite reads by this very talented author.
A dating ad on Craig’s List lead to Lauren and Mason having a fake date which in turn leads to so much more, Mason and Lauren are perfect together, the witty banter flows so naturally and the one liners are hilarious, I love this couple so much, they made me smile, they had me laughing out loud as well as giggling to myself, what more can you ask for . Highly recommended for lovers of romance and comedy and you certainly won’t regret one clicking this amazing rom com.
I was laughing and giggling so often while reading this story! This quick read was so enjoyable. I read it in just two sittings but had life not gotten in the way, I would have finished in one. I couldn’t get enough of Lauren’s smart mouth and Mason’s quick comebacks!
When Lauren and Mason find themselves in an unusual situation thanks to their meddling friends and family, they both get more than they bargained for. I love the way this author can mix romance and humor without things feeling too corny or over the top. Lauren was so down to earth, funny, and straight up with how she feels. I related to her right away! Mason knows just how to deal with Lauren’s smart mouth and I loved how nice and honest he was. It was so easy to root for them and fall in love with their story!
As always with this author’s books, the secondary characters are a hoot! They are so dang funny and add so much depth to the characters as we are able to learn more about their families and friends in a very entertaining way.
The one thing I didn’t love about this story was the drama with Mason’s ex. While it was completely necessary in the beginning of the book, I wish it had gone down a different road towards the end. This is just a personal preference of mine when reading. I don’t like a ton of “ex” drama. Please don’t let that deter you from reading this book though!
A story about finding love when you least expect it, this book makes for the perfect beach read with plenty of humor and steam.
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
I don’t know what it is about this author and where she comes up with her one-liners, but she always leaves me in stitches. She is my go-to author when I find myself in need of a pick me up, a good laugh, or something light-hearted. The Accidental Girlfriend fits that bill.
After being ribbed by her friends during a girls’ night for being single, Lauren posts a humorous ad on Craigslist offering up her services as a fake date. Unbeknownst to her, this little drunken escapade will lead her on the unlikely path to love when Mason’s meddling sister responds to her ad. Told from a dual POV, I loved seeing the witty banter between the two of them. The text messages were hysterical and even Lauren’s cat had me cracking up. Lauren is a confident heroine who has no filter. I loved her snark and sass and she is the type of friends that I would love to have in my corner. Mason was sweet and I like how loyal/dedicated he was to his oddball family.
True to this author’s writing, the secondary characters really make the book. Lauren’s friends and her sister were entertaining and I loved Mason’s batty neighbor. Like some of the previous books, Mason has a quirky, oddball family where the elderly aunts and uncles misbehave in outrageous ways. I found some of their antics to be a bit over the top (something that I come to expect in this author’s books), but I was also snorting coffee through my noise because well, you just have to read the book.
The Accidental Girlfriend is a fake relationship romance with a fun cast of characters and many laugh out loud moments that are sure to keep you entertained until the very end.
Ok so here’s the thing; this book was absolutely amazing but then it went into too much sarcasm (somewhere between 50%-75%)untik it picked back up.
I really liked MC’s. Their relationships started a bit unorthodox but they managed to find a common ground and from their they discovered that there is something real between them. The slow burn was interesting and it was funny (most of the time). I did liked how the book ended without much drama involved. I liked his Co-Co family; talk about CRAZY .
As usual for Emma Hart, the book is full of sarcastic banter, crazy side characters and a couple that was made for each other. I’m giving this a -4* because like said some parts were a bit too much for me

This book is so freaking hilarious. Seriously, I had not anticipated laughing out loud without being able to control myself, in the middle of a hospital cafeteria on my lunch break. Lauren is insane in the best way – the things that came out of her mouth were so unexpectedly hilarious. And Mason was able to keep right up with her.
Mason’s family was just as amazing. I could picture the crazy aunt and uncles (and I tried hard *not* to picture Grandpa), they were all so well written. There were so many one-liners in this book, too.
I can’t think of one negative thing about this book. It was sweet, it had poignant moments (Lauren confiscating her niece for a day so her sister could deal with her postpartum depression was wonderful). You should definitely read this book.
Lauren and Mason met by accident, but their feelings were real. Together they were a cute quirky couple. Lauren and her friends are refreshingly blunt and the dialogue was hilarious. I need a Lauren as a best friend.
This was a funny, cute story that is not to be missed.
It’s fun to have a guilty pleasure, I can scream to the world about. Emma Hart keeps me laughing, always smiling and addicted to her brand of heartwarming. The Accidental Girlfriend begins with a mistake that turns out to be a perfect fit for love. With all the drama in the world, it’s nice to have a reason to smile. Lauren and Mason are a ton of humor wrapped in a bundle of heart.
Emma Hart had me in stitches with her fun loving, quick witty heroine, Lauren in her new release The Accidental Girlfriend. What happens when you get three girls together for girl’s night and a few bottles of wine? Craigslist Ads. For Dating…
Lauren caved to peer pressure. Her sister and two best friends convinced her after a few, maybe more, glasses of wine to post a Craigslist Ad to find a man. Who needs Tinder?!? Not this quirky, hilariously funny heroine. No, all it took was 24 hours for a tall, dark, and handsome man like Mason Jackson to need a date. Only catch? It’s a fake date.
Emma Hart created slow burn heaven with this friends to lovers story. Both had hilarious senses of humor that kept me coming back for more! Hart’s point of view keeps this trope fresh, appealing and lol funny.
The start of this story grabs your attention immediately! And I am happy to say the chuckling and laughing out loud continued.
Lauren Green is a twenty-five year old bartender with a wicked sense of humour, a lot of self confidence that helps her to blaze her way through situations and an incredible knack of mouthing off with smart comments. Mason Jackson is a twenty-eight year old builder who also has a great sense of humour, a closeness to his zany family and is a caring man but who also knows how to give lip. I really enjoyed both characters, they truly made this a fun story.
This book is jam packed with a healthy dose of hilarity. Some scenes have you smiling or grinning, while others find you laughing out loud and almost crying with the humour. The fun banter and teasing between the characters, especially Lauren and Mason, is zippy and quick. So much so I reread some scenes they were so funny, Mason’s family are all ‘characters’ that are enjoyable to read about, I can well imagine this author having an absolute blast creating each one.
This is a lighthearted, feel good romance that I thoroughly recommend to everyone who enjoys a good laugh with a very entertaining story.
This was a really lighthearted, easy story to read and to enjoy. This book had laughs a minute, backbiting and sarcastic remarks which just made it a joy to read and along with a unique storyline as well, it was just so good.
What made this book so enjoyable was the way the author portrayed her characters. Everyone had some sort of quirk and was part of a dysfunctional family or a set of friends which constantly made me giggle. Lauren was a complete hoot and what came out of her mouth was crazy but such fun. She is confident, funny, sexy and strong, she has her views on matters and she doesn’t waver from them; a girl who definitely knows her own mind and speaks it freely.
Mason is the gorgeous hunk of a guy who has been set up by his sister to go on a fake date to please his Mum and to stop her nagging him to find a girlfriend. Mason is the calm controlled one, his balm is to sooth Lauren’s craziness and her wayward mouth. What shouldn’t work when these two meet up on their fake date turns into something else completely but not without some disasters along the way that made me belly laugh.
This is a fabulous little read that will brighten your day with hilarious situations, wonderful quirky secondary characters and a nosy neighbour to top it all off. A good all round book that I would recommend you read!!!
Laugh out loud funny!! Swoon with sweetness and heat!! This is what you are getting from this new story from Emma Hart!
This is the story of Lauren and Mason.
The snark and saltiness of Lauren is amazing! She is what I want to be when I grow up! She gives as good as she takes and makes no apologies for it! She has a hidden sweetness and softness that Mason is trying hard to find.
Mason is just swoon! He has been burned by past relationships but it doesn’t deter him when he gets to know Lauren and wants to know more about her. His family is epically funny and quirky and everyone should have a family like this!
This was a fast paced, couldn’t put down till I was done story! It’s classic Emma Hart and more! She creates magic with her words!
From Henry the cat to leather budgie smugglers (yes I had to Google that one!) You are gonna fall in love and laughter hard with this one! Well done Ms. Hart! Well done!
Emma Hart is the Queen of Rom Com and this book is no exception. I was laughing the entire way through!
Lauren is down to earth and hilarious. I love how she takes the fake girlfriend idea and runs with it. Her post was hilarious! I mean, who wouldn’t want to respond to that. Of course, when she meets Mason her sense of humor continues to shin. Mason is also fantastic and has a sense of humor that fits perfectly with Lauren’s. These two had all sorts of crazy chemistry and it truly made the story fantastic.
Mason has been hurt before, so naturally he doesn’t want to get into one, but his sister has other plans and thinks it is time for him to move on. Enter Lauren. Lauren’s sister and friends think it is time for her to get out there more, to socialize, to date.
The banter between Mason and Lauren was perfection, especially when it came to their texting conversations. Those were ABSOLUTELY hilarious. Of course, their story isn’t all about the laughs. It was sweet, had some ex drama and some steamy scenes.
Emma Hart wrote a truly amazing, laugh out loud funny fake romance story that will have you swooning and smiling the whole way through. A MUST READ book!
Laugh out loud, snarky, sarcastic, totally unexpected fun. Lauren’s only relationship is with her surly cat, Henry, that loves to sit on people’s heads. But a girl’s night pushes her to post an ad to be someone’s fake date that is cleverly crafted. Step-in Kirsty, who reaches out to Lauren to line up a fake date for her brother Mason. Mason is totally off relationships after walking in on his girlfriend of 6 years having sex with her boss. Yep, totally not dating. When Kirsty connects him with Lauren, his plan is to decline but then the rapid-fire text messages pull him in and he needs to meet this woman. From there, the sparks never die for Lauren and Mason as Mason handles easily all the sarcasm Lauren slings. Along the way, Lauren gets to meet Mason’s wacky family which she handles with ease. So, will these commitment phoebes realize they have found their true match? I had a blast finding out as they kept me on my toes with their intense and fast-paced banter. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Full of wit, sarcasm, and steamy chemistry The Accidental Girlfriend is a hilarious romcom to enjoy from beginning to end.
With a snarky, silly, and unpredictable way to meet you next mate – advertising on Craigslist, neither Lauren nor Mason were exactly looking to get into a relationship.
When Lauren was all but forced by her best friends to jump back into the dating field, Lauren wrote a sarcastic ad that she never thought would be answered. She did her due diligence by placing the ad and getting her friends off her back and by writing the ad with enough sass she figured no one would ever respond.
She was only right about one of those thoughts.
Ironically it wasn’t Mason himself that answered Lauren’s advertisement looking for a fake date, but Mason’s sister. You see, Mason wasn’t looking for a date or a relationship any more than Lauren was. He was burned by his last relationship and wasn’t looking to jump into anything now or in the near future. He’d like to blame his sister, but when she points out that he could really use the fake date for his upcoming high school reunion especially since his ex is going to be there his sister has some really good points.
Backed into a corner that neither are able to get out of, Mason and Lauren go out on their fake date and end up enjoying each others company more than they ever expected. If only they were actually looking for a relationship they might actually be perfect for one another.
Can a Craigslist date really turn into something more?
This lighthearted rom com was perfect for reading during a relaxing weekend. The sarcasm and charm of Lauren was on point and perfectly executed. You completely wanted her as your best friend and let’s not forget about Mason, he was gorgeous charming and funny -the trifecta for a man. The humor and connection between the two had you routing for them until the end. Another great read from Emma Hart!
4.5 stars for this fun, flirty romantic comedy. Emma Hart packs so many witty lines and fabulous come backs in this book that they just fly iftf the page and onto my laugh lines. Both Lauren and Mason are great, lovable characters and their predicament a perfectly set up for a fall into love scenario.
Well plotted, great pace and brilliant wider cast, The Accidental Girlfriend is an absolute pleasure xx

I laughed. More than once.
It’s definitely a pro-tip to never put an ad, of any kind, on Craigslist. Especially if it’s the result of girl’s night and there was wine.
However, sometimes the ad works out, and the guy who shows up at the door is hot enough, and funny enough, and nice enough to make you want it to be more, and to be real.
Lauren is hilarious. Mason is a little more serious, but the best part is that within all of that seriousness, Mason likes Lauren for who she is, he appreciates her quirks and, really, that’s the best thing possible in a partner…finding one that likes you for the person you are.
I laughed and I enjoyed this title. It’s light, and it’s a slow burn friends to lovers, which is similar to the other recent titles by Emma Hart, but it’s told in a fresh and fun way that keeps it from feeling like you are reading the same book again and again.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.
