On the outside, Ruby’s a normal college student. On the inside? She’s something else completely. Magic runs through her veins, tempting her to use it, but Ruby isn’t sure how to control her new powers…until Ty, a dangerously handsome man from another world, spots her and identifies her as a witch. He offers some answers, but they come with a cost. Not only does using her powers make her a target to … does using her powers make her a target to others trying to steal her magic and slay her pet dragon, but each act of magic must be balanced—and magic takes whatever it wants.
Is all the chaos caused by casting a few spells to ruin her ex-boyfriend’s perfect skin worth it?
Heck yeah.

I was not sure what to make of this book. Joynell Schultz did a wonderful job with the Angels of Sojourn series and I was unsure if she could live up to that in another series. I think that she needs a little more work to lift this novel out of the ranks of an almost-great book to a great book. She again created characters who are very human in their flaws and actions but who learn to accept the consequences of their actions and combined that with teen angst, college life and boyfriend problems and dragons. This is not just another academy book, but it needs a little more work to really compete with Harry Potter and Hogwarts..

I received this book as an ARC from the author. After reading this great book I’m happy to leave a review. This book is magical. The two main characters have some magical tendency. Ruby is part witch. She looses her Mother to cancer. Ruby decides to leave her home town and go to college two hours away. Ruby meets a couple friends the first day but it doesn’t take long to realize they might not be true friends. You need to read this great book to see what happens.
Another great book by Joynell Schultz! Her imagination is limitless and her stories always keep me totally ready to pick up my book at the end of a day. I read for the “take me away” moments and Dragons are a Girl’s Best Friend delivers without disappointment. If you like mysteries with a nice bit of dragon-intrigue, you will love this story. It’s fun and fast paced and keeps your mind following right along! Enjoy!
I always love Ms. Schultz’s stories. And Dragons Are a Girl’s Best Friend is no exception! Ruby is a lot of fun to read about; I mean, not the circumstances that got her where she is in this book, having just lost her mother and moved far from home with her boyfriend of a few years, only to have him bail on her. But her personality, her quarter witch background, her smart and strong character, and her friends (including the awesome little dragon Luke)!
The world-building done in this book sets up a really neat, interesting concept for the rest of the series, which I absolutely cannot wait to read! I’m totally curious to learn more about Ruby’s father and what happened to him, not to mention finding out more about Luke, Ty, and where they’re from. I’ll also be interested to see how things play out with Ruby’s house and her friend Sonja, who it seems may become a bigger part of Ruby’s life going forward… we’ll see! And, as is always the case with Ms. Schultz’s works, the story is sweet, unique, imaginative, and intriguing. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it!
This is a brand new series and so far my favorite book by Joynell Schultz! There’s a freshman college student named Ruby, a pet dragon named Luke, an ex-boyfriend as well as two hot guys on campus, and lots of unruly magic. What more could you ask for? Follow Ruby on her adventures as she tries to understand her magic, learn how to make difficult decisions as a new adult, and figure out where her heart lies with the guys, while running into danger.
I received an eARC and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Good book with likable characters and an interesting plot. I love that the main character has a pet dragon.
The Quarter Witch Chronicles:
Dragons are a Girl’s Best Friend #1 – One of my favorite authors regardless of what she writes. I appreciated the humorous overview since I never know what most stories are about and I don’t have the time to look them up. The last dragon I cared about was Puff and I left him behind with my childhood, but this dragon is so sweet and intriguing, well.
The humor throughout this story made even the sad parts better. Yes, the first chapter is full of sadness and then the beginning of the second kicks her teeth down her throat. But then we met Liam and things improve drastically. Of course, there’s Luke the Dragon to help make the storylines interesting and intriguing. Although I don’t care for this age group, I liked the characters and their most of their dialog. Ruby’s constant state of panic and her bad thoughts were a little too much at times, but she’s eighteen and learning.
The author’s vivid imagination and descriptions always keep me entertained and there in the story and this story is no different. I’m glad the next two books come out in June; so far, this has been an interesting and fun read. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 4*
While the Dragon’s Away #2 –This story picks up about six months after Ruby discovers she’s a witch. She has a lot on her plate and now she needs sideboards to contain everything. There’s a powerful hunter from Ty’s realm and it’s about to hit the fan.
The storylines are engaging and intriguing. I like the new character, although she’s very dangerous for Ruby and company, you’ve got to admire her. Add to this mix, finals. Yep, what a couple of wonky weeks can do to a girl. There are secrets that come out in the wash, too, which I’ll keep to myself, they’re secrets! Good imagination and descriptions keep the reader immersed and then too quickly, the last page is read. Squawk!
There’s an overview, which I appreciate knowing about a book before I read it. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 5*
The Quarter Witch Chronicles end.
Tales of Fairy Godmothers Series:
Hidden #1- A lovely, heartwarming novella about discovery, love and kindness, and loneliness. Searching for her baby’s father leads a pregnant fairy to new adventures and learning experiences, and a vast change to her life, while she shares her godmother skills without her magic. There’s plenty of humor and danger included in this sweet story. 5*
Trapped #2- Another lovely, heartwarming novella about trust, love and kindness, and loneliness. Almost dead when saved by one boy after his brother captured the fairy in a vent less jar while hunting for bugs. Cared for by the human until she returns to her fairy world, she returns every year on her birthday seeking the human boy. Their friendship grows and they learn of each other and their worlds. On her second to last trip back, their friendship is shaken. Making her last wish to encompass four days in his world, they sort, work and love their friendship back. There’s humor and sadness, but also joy in this well written, full of vivid descriptions novella. I contacted the author to review her books and received this through Booksprout. 5*
Tales of Fairy Godmothers Series end.
Not what I expected but I still loved it. I am used to more steamy romances and this is more of a slow sweet romance. While this one does have a happy ending it still has a cliffhanger and I am looking forward to the other two stories that are coming to finish this story

Once again I have been lucky to enjoy the creative and imaginative mind of Joynell Schultz!! I urge everyone who sees this to pick this book up or any or all of her books because they are all top-notch stories that have excitement, adventure romance and wonderful characters that you can relate too.
If you haven’t read her books before you have a treat in store and if you have I’m sure you’ll agree with me in that she is a breath of fresh air to chase away the gloom and doom of the world we live in and wish her worlds were the reality! What a wonderful world it would be to live in those worlds she writes about!
I am so blessed to have discovered her some time ago and I can say truthfully that each book has warmed my heart! I am looking forward to the next books in this series so I can follow Ruby, Ty and Luke to see what new adventures await them! I invite all of you to come along with me in this wonderful adventure!
