It has been a while when King last encountered a comrade he thought had been dead. I was thrilled to see Mayhem’s King picks up that cliff hanger from the last book, Mayhem’s Hero. Lindsay Cross creates a compelling read with King’s determination to execute judgment in this newest novel. Super solider, King, has buried his emotions of loss, grief and regret finds that life can still throw him for a loop. He is caught off guard by his attraction to the woman and child that he hunts down to help him in his end goal of vengeance. The romance is built on secrets so it has many ups and downs. Still I was pulling for both to be honest with each other. That really didn’t bother me because I knew the romance part of the story would work out in the end. It is suspense and action that made this story such a riveting read, that I didn’t know how it would end.
Wow, what a story. King comes out of the shadows, showing what a complex and tormented soul he is. It is an amazing story that I found impossible to put down especially with so many unexpected events in the story. Betrayals, loyalty, love, empathy, and the consequences of unscrupulous secret military experiments make for an action packed, emotional read. The outcome in the end was fitting but by no means predictable. No way did, I think that I could feel sympathy for the one King was hunting, but I did. I know that is vague but I don’t want to give anything away. This is book to read.
Here’s hoping the next Mayhem book is sooner out rather than later. The suspense of waiting will do me in.
This is Book 4 in the Mayhem series, and I have to say that this series just keeps getting better and better. This story is very well-written with a complex plot and very interesting and likable characters. It moves at a really good pace and has nothing boring in it. It is full of drama, suspense, action and some wonderful steamy romance! I very quickly got into the story and it held my interest right up until the last page. If you like military romance then you are going to LOVE this book! I highly recommend it!

King’s Mayhem
King lives and breathes revenge! After losing his eye and the betrayal of that same teammate who shot him, he comes up with a plan to take him out. His plan hinges on kidnapping Dawson’s sister and using her as bait, but when he meets her….his plans quickly change
Laura is looking after John’s daughter after receiving the dreaded call that he was killed in action overseas. Now a man, claiming to be a former teammate has shown up and is looking to find him. However, this meeting takes a slight twist and puts them all in immediate danger.
As King and Laura get to know each other better, will her love for King win out or her loyalty to her family?
Loved this story as it feels like forever since we last visited with the men of Mayhem and was also enlightening to learn more about King’s past Also I’d like to thank Lindsay for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review and eagerly await the next story to get to the bottom of everything
Yay! It feels like it has been forever since the last installment, and this newest book did not disappoint. There is lots of action to keep things moving, and the pacing is on point. I liked King and Laura a great deal. Laura is such a caring heroine that it is hard not to love her. King previously lost everything, and it was great to see him come alive again. Their romance does move fast, which isn’t always my favorite but it worked here. Faith was adorable and a great addition to the story! Personally, I would have preferred if the prologue was a little shorter, but that’s more personal preference. Looking forward to the next book!
On his way to find revenge on a man he used to call his brother, King meets his downfall in that man’s sister…what an action packed, emotional path they both have to ride, he with past memories and she for her love of her brother. Grab this AWESOME romance and take a rollercoaster ride with them.
Great book! may be my favorite of the series
King is after his old teammate that tried to kill him. He follows a lead and shows up in his teammate’s house and engages his sister. It gets explosive from then on in. Non-stop action and a page turner in typical Ms. Cross’ style. The characters are strong, the story exceptional and the conclusion, satisfying, but the final chapter … WOW!!
I received this advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was gratefully provided this book as an ARC. Ms. Lindsay is an amazing author, hands down. This is book 4 of 4 to date. The Mayhem series truly began with the Men of Mercy series. Also a great series & in order for the reader to truly understand all the characters & nuances I recommend starting there. Most if not all are available on KU.. I have been anxiously awaiting this latest addition to this incredible series.
The story took off with a gut wrenching and horrifically sad beginning. The “beginning“ truly needed a prologue as it was a bit convoluted/confusing. By the 2nd chapter, it seemed (without any explanation) that the time-period had jumped forward, but it wasn’t immediately clear as to length of time. Eventually, most of my questions were answered and my confusion was resolved and the story proceeded with the same quality found in the previous books in the series.
As a side note, I did find multiple editing issues. Ms. Lindsay may want to look into the copy-editors work; as it is not on par with the level of her creative writing.
The story centers on Kingston (King) and Laura. King joined the team after a terrible personal event lead him to focusing on his career as a SEAL and his forsaking all other relationships.
His “Mayhem” team relied on him to save the unsaveable and he did; except those who he’d loved most. King believed he’d he’d made it through the worst, until his teammate John Dawson betrayed him, leaving him blind in one eye. Now his focus is revenge.
Laura Dawson knew when her brother, John, signed up for Special Forces, that she’d eventually get the call that he’d been killed in action. But, she never expected to be the one raising his little girl. A year after the fated event, Laura is shocked to learn that John is alive! But, not the same happy and loving brother/father.
The story moves quickly (at times too quickly) and tugs a bit on the heart strings. The other Mayhem characters are for the most part absent during this story. Reaper , Diggs, and Audra (no Trigger ) make a few brief appearances. Would love to see Faith interact with the others; specifically war dog Trigger!! Of course we get our HEA and a little peak into the next book that’ll probably center on John (the “betrayer”) and Melissa.
This is a solid 4 – 4 1/4 stars, and a nice addition to the series.
