I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author to give a voluntary honest review. This review contains only my own thoughts and opinions of this book. First and foremost, thank you Elise Kova for the opportunity and generosity, and of course for a thrilling read.
If there is one word most fitting to describe the books and world of Vortex Visions it is that they’re so uniquely unpredictable. Failed Future was no exception. It took me through such a complex and impactful journey filled with drama, twists, new characters and best of all, the developing romance. With an ending that I in no way could have expected or even thought of myself. I am amazed of the depth and the planning that went into this book and the entire two series. It’s like Elise Kova is a seer herself.
With Failed Future we jumped right back into the story where the previous book left off, with (spoilers) Vi waking up after the harrowing escape from the pirates and aftermath of Jayme’s betrayal. I loved how this was handled in the story, it having such an effect on Vi, no longer being able to fully trust and always looking for hidden agendas in the people around her. It was a great tool to help shape the plot and add some drama and compelling struggles into the mix. It was balanced perfectly since it wasn’t so much that it took over the story, but still big enough that it affected Vi and the decisions she made. It also affected the relationship between Vi and Taavin greatly.
I was so excited that they for the first time were physically together and I enjoyed every moment of it, the nice toe curling romantic moments as well as the conflicts with secrets revealed and mistrust from Vi’s part. How that conflict and mistrust later on reared it’s ugly head was both heartbreaking and so so beautifully dramatic. That is exactly what makes a romance and story addictive. Sadly however, as much as I enjoyed the relationship, I wasn’t fully in love with it as I was in the previous series.
What was so beautiful with Air Awakens was that Vhalla and Aldrik were from completely different worlds, she a commoner and he a royal prince. Yet through their hardships they met as complete equals. Taavin and Vi kind of had a similar concept, but I never felt that amazing connection between them as I did between Aldrik and Vhalla. Sure, their romance in some capacity was forbidden as well, but that was never really focused on. The main issue for me, was that Taavin didn’t have a kind of personality that takes charge, which left Vi to make the decisions and commands while he always followed. Taavin simply disappeared a bit in the background, which was such a shame. With a bigger personality and spotlight in the story I believe the relationship would have been just as equal and amazing, if not more, as in Air Awakens.
One relationship that I did love however was that between Vi and Aldrik. Having been deprived of a bigger and emotional family reunion in Chosen Champion I really appreciated the father- daughter moments and seeing Aldrik with his loving father role was heartwarming. It fully compensated for what I did not get in the previous installments. Still, I am hopeful to see more of him, Vhalla and Romulin (and Andru) in the future. As much as I am awed over the ending of this book it does however make me worried that this is going to permanently erase the family and, of course, whatever happened to Taavin. I guess I will have to wait and see what will happen in Sovereign Sacrifice.
Failed Future is a terrific addition to this series. Vi’s quest continues as she makes her way across the perilous ocean and strange lands to free her father and save the world. There’s still a lot that she doesn’t know but she does quite well learning on the fly. I admire her strength and persistence even when her heart is breaking and it seems like the world is against her. My heart hurts for her and Taavin. They are so very much in love but the stars never truly line up for them to be together. The ending of this part of Vi’s journey shocked me quite a bit. I can’t wait to jump into the next book and find out what secrets it holds and where it’ll lead Vi and Taavin.
A fantastic addition to the series. This is a fast paced and action packed read that is epic. Its a real page turner that the Author has built a great world ans brought out each character and there emotions. This has lots if twists and turns. And I highly recommend.

Man, Elise has a talent for making you feel like you’re sprinting towards a goal only to end up smacking full body into the steel wall of her twist. I had to wait a few days to write my review for the shock to wear off.
Anyway, I’ve loved each book in this series more than the one that came before it and I can’t wait for Sovereign Sacrifice!
I’m absolutely sitting here crying these huge fat ugly tears!!! I’m utterly in awe of Elise Kova!!! I’m heartbroken and astonished and so many other emotions and thoughts are flittering through me. So many beautifully detailed books with captivating plots lead to the conclusion of this book! So many layers upon layers and ideas carefully sown in here and there. It’s breathtaking!!! Vi is one dynamic character that you just can’t help falling so hopelessly in love with. Taavin and the pull between he and Vi was such a magnetic force!! I wanted so many things for them, to find their happily ever after, and that was what I was invested in!!! It is what they deserve so very much, to find and celebrate a love like no other. So many things were happening in this book!! It was one moment after another that put you through the paces. The tender moments were enough to either give you hope or crush your heart!! I can’t even think about the next coarse of events to take place, and yet that’s all I want to do! I want to re-read every moment that came before and look for even more depth and meaning because this is just… everything!!! Well done to Ms. Kova!!! I’m not sure if I want to hug her or scream in denial.
