A delightful novella by Jillian Eaton.
Regina is a wallflower who takes her favorite book with her to keep her occupied whenever she is obligated to attend any of the many balls during the season since she has no real tolerance for dancing nor does she have any expectations of ever being noticed at those type of events. As much as she would like to have a grand love match she is a realistic young woman who is way out of her depth when she does catch the attention of the most eligible bachelor of the season. And when they get caught alone together by the most malicious and spiteful gossip it results in a sudden wedding.
What follows is a story about a young inexperienced wife having to deal with a situation not totally of her making and a new husband who had never wanted to get married, to begin with, but felt duty bound to save her and her family from a horrible scandal. Both Regina and Andrew grow into their characters nicely within the pages of this short book and while doing so manage to find that most elusive of all emotions, love.

Don’t we all love a wallflower who catches the eye of a duke (or another peer). I love these short novellas of Jillian’s that gives us a glimpse in the life of these people. Regina’s adoration of Jane Austen was so cute and served her well. Her willingness not to give up on the man who said he could not love and her strength to express her love was so sweet. I could see the back and forth banter taken to another level and would have loved a longer story.

Book three in the A Duke for All Seasons series is a story I was not putting down until I finished reading it. Regina marries the Duke of Glenmoore when they are are found embarrassing. But Andrew watched his parents marriage fall apart and wants nothing to do with love. Will he lose her before he realizes he loves her? That is the question I wanted to know. I hope there is more to come in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Summer Duke is the third book in A Duke for all Seasons series. This was a sweet and short novella so perfect if you are looking for a book to read for a short period of time. Andrew, the Duke of Glenmoore, and Regina are caught in a library together. In order to save her reputation and her sisters, Regina announces they are engaged. Andrew was not ready to marry but they didn’t have a choice. Regina is sent to the country after the wedding and her idea of a loving marriage is ruined. Andrew’s idea of a perfect marriage is “society” marriage, where they both live separate lives. Can they overcome their differences and have a HEA? The book was short but well written and truly a standalone book.
As always, Jillian Eaton has written a delightful story that centers around Andrew, Duke of Glenmoore & Regina, a wallflower bluestocking debutante. A marriage between them was required after they were discovered embracing in a library at a ball. The Duke does not believe in love & doesn’t want the emotional ties of marriage – so an hour after the ceremony, he puts her in a carriage to take her to his country estate while he stays in London. Regina knew she must marry him to save her younger twin sisters from scandal, but she never expected to be packed off alone for 3 months in the country. The worst part of the marriage, besides Andrew not being there, was she had fallen in love with him at first site.
Regina’s romantic novels (Jane Austen) she constantly reads, have caused her to believe in true love & being able to find the perfect man to marry & they would love each other completely. However; the complete opposite is how Andrew feels – marriage is a business.
Now Andrew has returned to his country estate & she must put a plan in action to convince him he loves her & they are the perfect couple — what would Lady A do? I highly recommend this book & the series to all historical romance readers.
This was a short, sweet, sexy, and funny Regency Romance. I loved that Regina would rather read books than attended dances and that she even sneaks in books to read while she stood with the wallflowers. The Duke of Glenmoore, Andrew is attracted to her, but he wants nothing to do with marriage and romance until he is forced into it to save her from ruin. He hides her away in the country and tries to pretend their marriage never happened until he breaks his leg and is forced to recuperate with her. Like in Pride and Prejudice he does change his attitude and his nature. She wasn’t prejudiced, just hurt by his lack of attention and words. Regina’s friend Kitty and his Duke of Wakefield are funny and I’m looking forward to their story.
A true romance.
This quick read was a joy to read. Take one young lady who does not care much for ton, who rather read a book of romance at a ball then dance and mix her with a duke who does not believe in love. This is bound to open up all sorts of challenges. I loved how the author made sure the duke did not get it together until the very end. This was a true romance that went to quick. There is one unanswered question will Kitty get happy ever after too. Pick this one up you will not go wrong. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A delightful story that I found myself relating to Regina on a basic level! At the ball, reading a book concealed under her fan, which she thought she would finish soon. But thankfully, she’d had the foresight to bring another book! Oh my goodness!! She carried her book everywhere she went. “To the park. To watch a play. And always, always – to the ballroom. She preferred the company of fictional heros to literal ones. If they started to bore her all she had to do was turn the page.” Loved it!!
So you see, the story got my attention immediately and I could not wait to see what would happen.
But the most astounding event occurred when Andrew, the Duke of Glenmore approached her and asked her to stroll around the ballroom.
Jillian Eaton has an amazing sense of humor and her writing is nothing short of brilliant as she defines her characters to the point I could imagine them and their thoughts! I laughed out loud, sighed and of course my heart went out to Regina.
For some reason Andrew had been drawn to Regina from across the ballroom like a “moth to a flame. Butter to bread. Shoes to a horse. A drunk to a frothy pint.” Priceless! Because she was a book reading wallflower!
I could go on and on about this wonderful tale but all I can say is you have to read this book. It caught my imagination and I really could not stop reading until I reached the end and my heart smiled…. Thank you Jillian Eaton is all I can say!!
A truly delightful novella that involves a wallflower, a duke and an unwanted marriage. I loved how different Regina was from the usual debutante and how all she wanted to do was read her books….a gal after my own heart! lol Andres, the Duke of Glenmoore has no intention of getting married but is forced to marry Regina after they are caught in a compromising situation in the library, the first time they meet!!
Regina believes in love and always fantasizes that her life would turn out like the books she reads (Jane Austen) but there’s a problem with that….Andrew doesn’t believe in love and in fact, leaves her for months after their rushed wedding. When he comes back, it’s up to her to change his mind!! As she says….”what would A Lady do”???
