Meet Miles Muckley…loving husband…caring father…faithful friend…successful writer…and world’s biggest idiot. Of course, in Miles’s insane mind, he sees himself as the world’s biggest…well…hero. However, when Miles’s wife insists they take a romantic drive from Vermont to Minnesota to spend Thanksgiving with her family, who are far from normal themselves, the man who is hated by his … his neighbors and loathed by an angry tom cat sets out to prove that he isn’t an idiot…under duress, of course.
The trip begins with Miles getting tied up by his best friend, his clothes stolen by a group of mischievous teenagers, and a tow truck driver with a happy trigger finger. Determined to keep pushing forward—under duress, of course—Miles continues down the road desperately trying to leave the state of Vermont only to encounter a killer truck driver, a girl with strange colored hair, and a pair of old people who turn out to be drug dealers. Yet, through it all, Miles somehow turns out to be a hero…well, kinda.

Miles Muckley is a screen writer. His crazy ideas provide him, his long suffering wife Molly and their two girls with a good living. So any road trip together between the spouses is likely to be even more epically outrageous. What was she thinking? A romantic ride together? Mm-kay.
Taking the scenic routes instead of the highways? Oh no sweetie!
Gun toting truck drivers, drug runners, taser happy troopers, angry neighbors…..
Oh my!
Miles sums it up nicely after mooning reporters on national television:
Smell it, baby!
It should make a great holiday movie next season!

Can’t wait until Miles’ cross country trip with wacky Charlie and their two wives!
Adventures and imaginative imagery galore. I was excited to read another book by Eliza Ester. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading her books, but this book was completely different. The random mutterings of the main character often did not make sense, but I eventually caught on as to why he muttered like that. I still found that to be annoying. Molly, the wife, had me wondering why did either of them continue in their marriage. In the end, Miles becomes the hero his wife could be proud of. The adventures were entertaining and the writing was extremely descriptive. These things made it worth reading.

Oh poor Miles, between a demanding, borderline abusif wife, her coucou family, some crazy neighbors and the worse luck ever during his romantic road trip, you don’t know if you just feel for him or laugh at all the crazy situations he put himself him

The very first line of the description of this book on Amazon says “Meet Miles Muckley…loving husband…caring father…faithful friend…successful writer…and world’s biggest idiot”. Miles really is an idiot. On a trip to visit relatives for Thanksgiving, he sets out to prove he’s really not an idiot however the series of events that continue to happen to him are totally hysterical!
I hope this series continues.

Ester made me laugh at a bad time in my life.
Pack Your Bag, Dear – This is my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am having difficulties with home invasions and this book made me laugh. The author placed me there in the back seat with the furball or inside his head. The descriptions are hilarious. The active imagination of Miles gets him repeatedly into a world of hurt.
Molly, bless her heart, fuels his fires into infernos. I love the internal dialog and scene that run amok through his mind. Of course, the cat’s role in the life of Miles goes without saying. Molly and Miles are perfect for each other and you can feel their love for each other; Miles more than us, for sure.
I found this book on Booksprout. 5*
