Black Nowhere is a next-gen thriller that will leave your fingertips blistered from scrolling pages so fast. Prepare to lose sleep!
Black Nowhere is an extremely unsettling thriller that haunted me for weeks. It’s a shrewd critique of Silicon Valley startup culture, a brisk FBI procedural, and a chilling look at a very modern form of amorality.
Black Nowhere is a blast. A gripping thriller with wonderfully nuanced characters. If you haven’t been reading Reece Hirsch, it’s time to start.
FBI Special Agent who specializes in cybercrime
FBI Special Agent Lisa Tanchik hasn’t been with the FBI long when she comes across a website on the Dark Web selling every kind of drug plus other dangerous items including guns.
She ends up convincing the people in charge that this is a dangerous threat and is put on a multi-agency task force to try to track down the founder.
Nate Fallon is a naive, idealistic young physics college student. Little does Nate realize just how out of control his multi-million dollar enterprise will soon be.
I enjoyed this book. It gave me a lot of insight into the workings of the Dark Web and cybercrime. I also liked the character of Lisa and am glad this is the start of a series. I am now off to read book two in the series DARK TOMORROW.
Not really realistic, but not a bad read.
Special Agent Lisa Tanchik is a terrific lead character, passionate about her work as she journeys into the dark web where cybercriminals lurk and nothing is what it seems. A must-read!
Smart, intense, and frighteningly real — I loved this book! Readers who enjoy thrillers with a heavy dose of high-tech computer wizardry will devour Reece Hirsch’s gripping new novel. When two of the smartest people on the planet face off in a cat-and-mouse game that might be the end for them both, the outcome is anything but certain.
A sleek and suspenseful state-of-the-art thriller with crisp writing and engaging characters that has something to say about the way we live now.
Black Nowhere is a Dark Web Scarface for the twenty-first century! Fast, smart, and timely, Hirsch hits all the right notes in this cat-and-mouse page-turner that exposes the false utopia promised by the modern internet. I hope there is much more to come from Special Agent Lisa Tanchik.
Although based loosely on the investigation of Silk road this is otherwise entirely original. I stayed up very late to finish this book in one sitting. Now on to the next book by this author.
How a Young Man’s Values Get Compromised
For mature audiences
Very limited strong language
No sex
Violence, but if you can stomach the TV show “Bones” you’ll be okay
Plot – no spoilers:
Lisa, a young cybercrime expert, discovers a new, sophisticated site on the dark web that comes to be called the eBay of illegal drugs and weaponry. She makes it her mission to figure out who has created it and to get it taken down.
Nate, the creator of the site, sees his new business as an avenue for all people to buy and sell products that to his mind have been unreasonably restricted by governments, thereby infringing upon the common man’s liberty.
The story is written so that we see both Lisa’s and Nate’s point of view. As can be imagined, because he’s dealing with illegal inventory, Nate’s sense of right and wrong has to be adjusted bit by bit so that he can legitimize his behavior to himself. Author Reece Hirsch expertly presents this change in morality.
Meanwhile, Lisa becomes more and more confident in her own instincts and skills.
