This story is book 2 in the author’s series, Men of Thief Lake. If like me, you have not read book 1, rest assure that it is a stand alone.
Thief Lake is a small town in Minnesota , where everyone knows everyone and their stories. It is here that Destiny/Heidi is placed as part of the Witness Protection Program. No one knows who she is or her story, least of all second in command Officer Mason Cooper. He is not only her business and home landlord but also her neighbor.
With the help of his dog Coop’s obsession with Destiny, they start a friendship, but as much as Mason wants more , Destiny tries to keep him at arms length. Especially when threats start against her, and she fears for her life and the need to start over elsewhere.
The story was engaging from the first page to the last. Full of action packed suspense, whodunit, secrets and of course, romance.
A well written story with characters that are perfect in their imperfections. Looking forward to what else the author has in store for us.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is the first book I’ve read in this series. Destiny is in witness protection program because of her ex boyfriend. So she’s starting over in the small town with a new name and a new business. She meets the town assistant police chief and sparks fly. There is action, suspense, love and betrayals.
This is a great read right from the start, you have mystery, suspense, twists and some attraction nobody wants to admit to! Destiny is a strong independent woman who is in hiding and trying not to be the snappy, judging girl from the past and her inner struggle is very funny at times. Mason is just delicious and although he doesn’t want to be attracted to her he is very determined to win over Destiny and when bad things start to happen around her and in town the stakes are raised in regards to whether its to do with her, someone else in town and if she will stick around to find out. There is plenty going on to keep you turning the page and see who is behind everything and wowzers that is one hell of a twist!
Destiny’s Dream: Fantastic, great writing and full of surprises! Loved the whole suspense of the story! Fell in love with all the characters. Loved how strong Destiny was trying to be throughout the story! Loved the s[parks that flew between Mason and Destiny! Liked the small town! Jen Talty really did a wonderful job telling this story and writing!
This was such an amazing read, I was pleasantly surprised with how intrigued and consumed I was with Destiny’s Dream. Jen Talty has truly outdone herself with this book. A definite one click and must read for all book lovers.
It’s sweet and it’s fun with an exciting twist of dark intrigue. I really liked the characters. Destiny’s made some bad choices in the past but she’s trying to do the right thing now. I particularly love that she’s so honest with herself and can identify which choices were good and which were bad. Mason’s been burned by some pretty awful romantic partners in his past, so he’s got a few trust issues to work through. It’s a fascinating match pairing the man with trust issues with a woman who absolutely can’t tell him the truth about herself. Add in a ghost from her past she never thought she’d have to deal with again, and you have this story.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Jen Talty is one of the few authors whose books I can totally trust to be wonderful, and this book lives up to that promise. Although the second in a series, it can be read on its own. Destiny is in Thief Lake under the witness protection program, a fact known only to her handler. On arrival in town, she meets her landlord and neighbor, Officer Mason Cooper. Problem 1: he’s a cop (not on her list of favorite people); problem 2: he’s just awesome. Oh, and don’t forget Coop, his dog, who adopts Destiny and appoints himself chief protector. There is definite suspense, with hints running in a variety of possible directions, there is heat (whew! type heat), and there is an insight into this type of protection and the FBI’s approach to a situation that is/might be/could be/possibly isn’t dangerous for Destiny. While I agree that Destiny’s Dream is a hideous name for a shop (why would you do that to her, Jen?), the dreams Destiny didn’t realize she still had might just be there for her. This is a shorter read, a perfect way to spend part of your afternoon, and it is wholeheartedly recommended.
I loved this book. Mason and Destiny were great together.
