One simple question changed both our lives. Can I keep you?We were only nine then, and all that mattered to us was seeing each other again. But that all changed as we grew up. Years of pretending like we didn’t know each other. That nothing we felt when we were younger had ever happened. As if that question was never asked.Who knew that it would take so long for us to figure it all out? To stop … take so long for us to figure it all out? To stop pretending and finally realize that we had been there for each other all along. It might have taken us 21 years, but it’s finally here.
And this is our story.

I’m a big fan of this series and this was no exception. This was the story of Chase and Erica, soul mates from the age of 7 when they met at summer camp. Two years later, Chase has to move to Savannah with his family and asks Erica “Can I keep you?” Despite crossing paths, it takes 31 years to fulfill their destiny. This is a beautifully written story, interwoven with characters from the other Inkwell Chronicles books, so it feels cozy and comforting. This is the tale of two people whose missed opportunities, bad timing and misunderstandings weaves its way into your heart and makes you smile.
Man ! So many times I wanted to smack them on the back of the head and just tell them to say something already! A slip of the tongue, him seeing her keychain. I wanted them to fight for each other! It was crazy! When they finally got it right I was so happy!!! Man! That’s a long time to wait for love!
When a nine year old says “Can I keep you?” to their best friend as he moves away you expect that to be the end of a story not the beginning. In Keeping You Jordan Bates delivers a timeless love story which spans decades as Erica and Chase fight to reclaim that promise. Age, distance, and missed opportunities all play parts in hindering them but their love never falters. This sweet, romantic, emotional ride will have you shaking your kindle one moment and pressing it against your chest the next. Hop along for the ride.
Can I keep you? This was not only the question that Devon Sawa asked of Christina Ricci in Casper, but also what Chase asked Erica when they were just nine years old. This book really is sweet and pure, but unrealistic in my opinion. These two had known each other since they were seven, and took them 20 years to find each other. Once they did though, it was perfect. They were happy, they were together all the time, never had an argument, and at the age of 28(ish) had never been with anyone else. Parts of the book were so skimmed over that it just kind of made you want to ask why. These two characters gave me a toothache. Even the secondary characters didn’t seem real. I don’t think I would recommend this book.
A love of a lifetime found as children. That’s what this book brought me. I loved reading Chase and Erica’s story as it starts when they are kids and last for years. This is the first book by this author that I have read, and I am looking forward to reading more.
Keeping You was one of the best love stories I’ve read it a while! I fell in love with the characters from the very beginning and was cheering for them throughout the whole book.
They meet at summer camp for two summers in a row, then Chase has to move again and wants to keep Erica. They run into each other again in high school, and because of how they introduced themselves, they each thought that the other one forgot about them. Then they brush by each other in the airport. Chase’s family is not supportive and Erica’s family is super involved. They meet again working at the same place and do their “don’t know each other” routine for years. I wanted to tell at then so many times because they kept not telling each other! The moment he slipped up and called her “Peaches” I literally shouted out “YES!!!!” Scaring my animals and daughters lol. This story will pull you in from the very beginning! I highly recommend this book!
This is an amazingly sweet love story about two people who fell in love as children, and kept missing each other until adulthood. I have read the entire Ink Well Chronicles, and I love how each story is unique. The characters are amazing, easy to relate to. Chase and Erica’s love story is one that stands the tests of time, a meant to be love.
What is not to love in this story? You cannot help but feel the angst from so many missed opportunities. At the Age of 7 and 9 two souls found each other but it would be almost 2 decades of missed chances for Chase and Erica. This story tugs on your heartstrings and you cannot help but cheer along with thier friends when FINALLY, they both take a chance and put thier hearts on the line. Several scenes moved me to tears. I loved how the entire Ink Well founders truly became all the family they each needed. I may have started with book Three but I can guarantee I am going to enjoy reading the other books just as much.
