Tombstones is the first K.C. Enders book to experience. It checks many of the boxes I love for reading. It is intense, humorous, well-written, and just the right amount of steamy. The story . I enjoyed the characters.
Kate, the heroine is independent, sassy, and as smart as they come. She rolls with the ups and downs life brings her way. Jack is a soldier, fiercely loyal, and a true alpha. He take on life situation by situation and conquers each in turn. They both have friends that they have chosen as family. Overall, these are all characters I want to know more about.
Though I read this as a standalone, it is evident that there are other books related to it. I think if I had read it in relation to the others in the series, I may have felt more invested and more connected to the characters. There were sweet and tender moments. There was absolute heartbreak and grief. Most of all, there was a happy ending.
I enjoyed my reading experience and will go back to read the remaining books in this series.
Jack and Kate will have you laughing, crying and so much more. This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I thought it was well written, had a great storyline and I enjoyed the characters especially little Jack. This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
This book was amazing. Couldn’t put It down. It got into all my emotions. A month of messing around and the funniest mishap ever turns into a lifetime commitment. KC Enders
You know a book is good when you tear up over the story and I did just that. I felt the emotions at every turn and couldn’t wait to know what happened. It was bittersweet finishing the book but I hope since this is the third book in the series there is more to come.
Absolutely loooved this book! It’s made me happy, swoony, mad and sad and happy again! I’ve been smiles since I’ve read this book!
This is book 4 of Karin’s Beekman Hill series, but can be read as a stand alone. While there are some tombstones in this book. There is so much more to unpack within the pages. The main characters are Kate Beard and Wyatt Jackson (Jack). Kate is a southern girl raised in historic Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She follows her, then, boyfriend to NYC. Kate lands a job as a Kindergarten teacher and her boyfriend lands himself a boyfriend. So she moves out and in with her new friend, Gracyn. Jack is a US Army Special Forces Captain and legitimate hot badass. He finds himself in NYC on leave with his good buddy Tripp. He has 30 days before being sent back to the Middle East. Hot school teacher. Hot SF Army Captain. Plus a fuckton of hot sex and some hilarious situations. Equals your next must read. Tombstones releases April 15, 2019
Kate is a kindergarten teacher who is failing at love and Jack is a soldier that refuses to settle down so what happens when these two are thrown together by a 5 year old tornado? Jack is he on leave looking for some fun when he meets Kate through his nephew Jake. Sparks definitely fly but Kate isn’t so sure it’s a good idea to pursue anything with a guy that isn’t sticking around. Soon enough Jack tears down her defenses and they start dating, but all too soon its time for life to go back to normal and for Jake to head back to the sandbox. However, an unexpected oops and uh oh throw Kate’s world off track. Unable to tell Jake she goes on with life while preparing for her world to change. When Jake comes back will he welcome them with open arms or is it just too much for him to take on? This book has everything highs and lows and such hysterical moments you just have to laugh and instances where you just feel your heart shatter. It was fabulously written and the story itself was phenomenal. Can’t wait to read what K.C Enders comes up with next!
* I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review *
I LOVE Tombstones! It is Book 3 in the Beekman Hills series but can be read as a standalone. And It is actually my first book by this author.
Kindergarten teacher, Kate Beard is having lots of dating woes after catching her long time bf with another man. She is beginning to doubt there are good men out there. Until through adorable student, Jake, she meets Wyatt “Jack” Jackson.
Jack is only in town on leave so a fling might be all either is looking for, but there is more in the cards.
“Life is messy, Kate. But missing out on the good things because you’re afraid of what might happen is no way to go through it. Sometimes, you have to jump, have faith, and put your heart on the line. The risk can be scary, but oh, the reward.”
I saw the blurb and read the words “two blue lines” and an “oops” and an “uh-oh” and I knew I wanted to read this!
There is one scene that is one of the FUNNIEST I’ve ever read! I was reading it in public and probably annoying everyone while cracking up laughing!
I loved the humor, but this story also tugged at my heart strings and brought me to tears. The epilogue was amazing and had an ending that put a giant smile back on my face!
-4.5 Stars!!!-
I have loved all of K C Enders’s books so far, and this is no exception. Kate is a kindergarten teacher. She is sweet, smart, down to earth, and the kind of person who you would love to have as a friend. Jack is a special forces soldier, prefers to be single, but he is sexy, real, and the perfect gentleman.
I loved the attraction between these two, the overall story and plot development, the banter, and the realistic military details. I highly recommend this book. I couldn’t put it down!
This book was a great addition to the Beekman Hills series! While it is a standalone, I would suggest that you read the others in the series to get the full effect. Jack meets Kate at his “nephew’s” school and they get to know each other from there. Their time together results in an unexpected surprise for both of them. Add in some appearances from other Beekman Hills residents and you have a nice read!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done
A very fast paced read with a lot of laughs out loud moments, great characters and sexy moments.
“God, forgive me for lusting after my student’s father, please and thank you, i pray silently.”
Of course, there are misunderstandings and chemistry and everything you want from great characters as they are trying to live their life on their own without the intervention of their family.
Although it was my first read by this author it won’t be the last because this book kept me glued to my kindle and read it in one sitting, the writing is great and there are many words and sentences that you don’t usually find in books and i was so glad that i found them here,it makes everything more reliable with real life and also in this story there are many decision to make and heartbreak moments because life will always throw unexpected situation at us when less wanted.
Read it and you won’t be disappointed.
K.C. Ender’s Beekman Hills is somewhere I would like to visit. She brought to life a place that has stories to tell and she’s sharing them with us. Tombstones is a story of love found, love missing and love reclaimed.
Kate’s story is unique in that she’s a southern girl in the north, working at a job she loves teaching kindergarten and unlucky in love.
Jack is a soldier home on leave that meets Kate and recognized the chemistry between them. His time with her is short but he’s going to make the most of it.
This book drew me in with this original story line, wonderful characters and remarkable writing. This story was everything you could want in a book. All the feels with a little heartbreak thrown in, lead to a marvelous ending.
A story of life that is both touching, dramatic and romantic
It is a good romance based on the slow romantic seduction between a kindergarten teacher, Kate, and the soldier friend of one of her students’ father. Initially I hesitated on my rating because I found the beginning rather slow, even if the story was sometimes hot because of the closeness of the characters. But the second part is more moving when Jack goes on mission and Kate has to deal with different problems all alone.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Overall: ++
I have a confession to make before you read my review. This is my first KC Enders book. A Facebook friend of mine suggested I sign up for an ARC of the book to provide a review, and I trust her taste in books as we LOVE the same authors. So I did it. I signed up and received said ARC.
I give you this confession because I have not read the prior 2 or so books in the series. While this is book 3 (I think the final book), it does read like a standalone. Yes, there are characters mentioned in the book and stories alluded to in the story that made me feel a little left out, but it did not affect the story of Jack and Kate at all.
Now, to my review of Tombstones. Here’s the formula of success for a book like Tombstones: military guy + Kindergarten teacher + a month of fantastic $ex + secret baby = a great read. Tombstones is everything you love in a romance novel. The characters are incredibly likeable. I think Jack and Kate are two of the most well-mannered, mature, and nicest characters I’ve read in a while. Sadly, Jack is a bit clueless through some of the book. While he treats Kate well, he is your typical confirmed bachelor with no want for kids” kind of hero. You know, the type of hero who has the girl of his dreams, but he walks away from her because he can’t see the forest through the trees. That’s okay. As we all know, the clueless guy usually figures it out, albeit it is pretty late in the story.
Kate is patient and mature. Given her “situation” in the book, she could take steps to increase the drama of her life, but she doesn’t. She handles Jack leaving and her secret baby with a grace that makes her incredibly likeable.
Now, the reason I don’t give this book a full 5 stars is I needed a bit more “love” from these two. They are clearly attracted to each other, and they love each other’s company. However, I wanted to feel a deeper love between them. With the falling action after the climax, I had a hard time accepting Jack’s proposal because I didn’t necessarily read his love as undying. I think Enders could have developed that a bit more before ending the story.
However, there are so many aspects of this book that make it a must read. Obviously, I’ve focused on the characters, but the story flows. You do not want to put it down (at least, I didn’t). Additionally, all of the supporting characters make you wish you could live in Beekman Hills, New York and sit in McBride’s Public House at the bar being served by Finn or Gracyn. Even more, these characters don’t add more drama to Jack and Kate’s story (well, that’s not entirely true, but I don’t want to reveal a plot point); instead, they support them and add layers to the story.
I am extremely glad that my friend recommended I read KC Enders. When I clear out more of my Kindle library, I know I will read more of this series and more of her books. Tombstones has everything in it (hot military guy, secret baby, an engaging story) that makes this reader very, very happy.
Jack and Kate will have you believing in love all over again. Kate has had a difficult time ever since the discovery oh her ex with another man. It has been one bad man after another until the entry of Jack. One look from this man and their worlds shift and will never be the same. This story is one emotional twists that draws you in from page one and addicts you. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I was given an arc by the author in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.
Five stars for Tombstones! What a whirlwind and a story of finding the love of your life when you least expect it.
Jack had to breakdown a few of Kate’s walls and Kate had to break down a huge wall of Jacks. These two were so good together and even though they only had a month, feelings got involved. Once a surprise happens then Kate shows how strong she really is. Once the surprise is known by Jack he steps up and does Tight by Kate.
Lots of emotions, some tears were shed and a live like no other is revealed.
Highly recommended.
I loved this book and was unable to put it down, I read it in one sitting.
Kate is a school teacher for adorable little 5 year old’s, but one little boy Jake thinks she is amazing and talks none stop to her about his hero dad and Uncle Jack.
Jack is in the military, special forces and is Jake’s hero! At kindergarten the children can take someone in for lunch and whilst home from tour, Jack goes along and the children ask lots of questions and enjoy their time with him.
Jake introduces Jack to his teacher, Kate and although they are attracted to each other, being the professional that she is Kate refuses a dinner date with him, so he takes her lunch into school and she relents and agrees to go to dinner with him. When he leaves without saying goodbye, he leaves her with something special, but will she ever see him again to be able to tell him?
Kudos to the author for an Absolutely Outstanding read! Have you ever read a book that checks off all your emotion buttons as well as your reading enjoyment buttons? Well Tombstones did it for me. It’s Funny, Heartbreaking, Romantic, Sad, with times of Lust, Tears, Heartache, and Laughter. As for the characters they will wrap you up tightly in a warm blanket and touch your heart.
Kate is a New York City kindergarten teacher, who hails from Mississippi. She loves her job and her kids. She just needs a love life to complete her happy ever after. But after a series of dating disasters (which I have to admit are quite funny from the outside looking in), Kate has decided there are no more decent men in the world and doubts she’ll ever find Mr. Right. That is until the day “Uncle Jack” comes to have lunch with his nephew, Jake (and let me tell you that this little boy will melt you into a puddle from the time you meet him). Uncle Jack is actually Wyatt Jackson, Captain in the Army Special Forces. Wyatt is a confirmed bachelor home on leave for 30 day. He is everything Kate ever wanted rolled into one sexy, well mannered package. To bad that he is totally off limits to her. Kate doesn’t date relatives of her students, it just isn’t ethical. As for Wyatt he takes one look at Kate it’s lust at first sight and doesn’t want to take no for an answer.
Little do these two know that this chance meeting would change their lives in the most surprising of ways down the road. A road that full of happy, romantic, tragic and scary times for both of them. I don’t do spoilers so I’ll just say this is one very well written, must read book that I highly recommend scooping up. It’s a definite 5 star, 2 Thumbs Up for this reader.
