OMG, if you want something that is funny with a ton of crazy shenanigans, then I absolutely recommend How to Spell Disaster!
Who’d a thunk that a crazy old book would turn into such a disaster?! Tucker attempts a love spell and it blows up in his face. Women are throwing themselves at him left and right. At first, he thinks this will end his dry spell and decides to go on a date. But as he continues, the women get crazier. This poor guy has to watch out for his well being too! He goes back to the occult shop to get some advice or possibly another spell to break this one but is told that sometime’s magic won’t work and the only way to break this spell, or curse, is to find true love’s first kiss. Ok, so cliche’, right? Well, when the women start going crazier he has to find something to fix this and the book just sits there….staring at him…. flips to another page… shocks people….the book just taunts him. When he thinks he finds a “nice” girl they end up being some sort of psycho. This story had me dying laughing all the way to the end. Love is always found in the most unlikely of places and poor Tucker has hellish luck. This was a super fun story and rooting for Tucker was the best part! I look forward to continuing this series.
Picked this up at Writers on the River booksigning event and I’m hooked on her writing. Can’t wait to see what she puts out next!
Tucker receives an ancient book. When translated, he performs a spell looking for a girl. When the spell backfires he is literally chased by nearly every single woman. Seeking help, he asks the witch at the occult shop for a counter spell. She tells him only true love’s kiss can set him free. Can Tucker find true love while avoiding all the women after him? A great read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book in the Unfortunate Spells Series and I really enjoyed it. Tucker is just a regular guy, work, home, friends, his cat… Then one day his best friend calls, it seems that they just got in an antique book that Brantley knew Tucker would want. Tucker shows up and takes a look, it’s a very old book written in a foreign language, and yes, Tucker wants it.
Taking the book home, he finds out that it’s a spell book written in Gaelic. But that’s not all, the spell book has a life of its own and shows him the spell it wants him to perform. Armed with his list, he heads out to Mystics and Moonbeams, a metaphysical shop, where he meets the owner Tamsin. Getting everything he needs, he heads home and waits for the right time to cast the spell. Once cast however, things in his life go haywire. It turns out he casts a spell to find love, but he did something wrong and now every woman wants him, young and old. He’s propositioned where ever he goes and even causes riots. Heading back to the shop, Tamsin informs him that in order to break the spell, he must find and kiss his one true love. Armed with this information, he heads out and attempts to find her.
This book is a quick read, the story flows, the characters are by turns sweet, hysterical, and always real. They’ve got issues (just check out Cayli), but Tucker powers through, trying to find the one for him. This book left me wanting to know more and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
** I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review
Okay I’m over here dying laughing. Y’all when you meet Cayli you will totally understand. “Meow”.
Okay so this young man, Tucker, is having a rough go of things. His love life doesn’t exist, he got passed over for his promotion, and he’s just super frustrated with life. When he gets an antique book from his friend he translates the page it continues to open to. After gathering all the components to what he believes is a love spell he decides it can’t hurt to try and cast it, he doesn’t believe after all. He couldn’t have been more wrong.
Tucker’s love life goes from non-existent to absolutely dangerous. From women just looking at him, to women clawing him up, to women stalking him, and then to hoards of women literally chasing him through the streets. Nowhere is safe from the crazy ladies who all want a piece, and we all know exactly which piece they want.
Tucker asks his friend Brantley for help in trying to break the spell and inadvertently gets help from Brantley’s younger sister Natalie as well. Nothing is working and Tucker ends up putting, not only himself but, Natalie in danger. They try to cast a second spell to try to fix the first and in all the frustration Natalie kisses Tucker, breaking the spell the way he was told to break it in the first place.
This book takes you for a fun ride filled with laughter. I enjoyed every bit of it!
