Awesome conclusion to this series. I like everything this author writes, but confess I wasn’t sold on a series with a female police chief, but Tess grew on me and I really got into the each book and enjoyed them.
This may be the best and most suspenseful of the three books, and I had a hard time putting it down after I started it on my lunch break at work… and I did finish it at home.
Oliver was an awesome and likable character, and was a great model of what a pastor should be. I found myself wishing I could be like this fictional guy, and I was glad he and Tess ended up together.
This was a book where the bad guys’s identities were obvious, but it didn’t make the book any less suspenseful. I am just sad to see the series end.
Cold Aim, Line of Duty by Janice Cantore
Cold Aim is a fast-paced romantic suspense that kept me at the edge of my seat. I fell in love with the characters and would love to read more about some of the minor characters. There was a strong story-line of faith, the dangers of human trafficking and just pure evil. I give Cold Aim 5 stars and can’t wait to read more in this series. Although it was the first book in the series I have read, it was easy to follow along. It can be read as a stand alone but I plan on reading the first two books in the series because I enjoyed it so much.
Cold Aim is a fabulous finish to the series. Edge of your seat suspense and intense drama kept me engaged until the end.
Recommend to readers who enjoy Dee Henderson.
I purchased a copy. I’ve expressed my honest opinion.
I loved watching Tess and Oliver take their relationship further in this book. It’s always fun to watch how other “people” make relationships work and if they can work through both the ups and downs.
Book Three of The Line Of Duty series again brings us to small-town Rogue’s Hollow. This time trouble comes looking for Tess when she’s asked to harbor someone in protection in her little haven. This “fugitive” is an 18-year-old girl who’s been a victim of sex trafficking. But she doesn’t see herself as a victim.
Ice is out to find her and nothing will stop him. Has Ice lost his edge or will he succeed in this mission? Or will it be his last?
Tess is as always a wonderful character to follow. I loved meeting Livie in this book and seeing all that she’d gone through and how she came out on the other end. I think she’s going to be a great resource!
Highly recommend not only this book but the whole series.
Evil exists and can destroy everything in its path. It hides in plain sight and doesn’t care who is harmed. Police Chief Tess O’Rourke understands that. She’s determined to keep the people of Rogue’s Hollow safe. When she’s approached about helping hide a Federal witness, she’s worried. No one will be safe, but she wants a deadly predator to pay for his crimes. Preacher Oliver Macpherson lives his faith. He’s there to help those who need him. He cares for Tess and worries about her safety. These two care for each other, but their professions seem to separate them. I liked that Tess and Oliver work hard to understand each other. I couldn’t put down Cold Aim. The story is filled with nonstop action and unexpected twists. The enemies are cold, deadly killers. I was shocked by their actions. I found the topic of human trafficking difficult. Also the murders bothered me. The killer’s action was ice cold. I was glad the author didn’t go into detail.
Janice Cantore did an excellent job bringing all the pieces together. Her characters were well written, the dialogue was sharp and to the point. I’m enjoying this series.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed.
Before I share my thoughts about the latest work of fiction, I would like you to know the two other books in the series are Crisis Shot and Lethal Target. While each of the novels have unique story lines what ties them together are the characters and the area where the action takes place.
In Cold Aim, the story revolves around the towns Chief of Police, Tess O’Rourke, who is asked to shelter a very important witness. The girl was part of a human trafficking ring and brought crucial evidence with her when she fled from her captor. What the girl didn’t count on was the dogged determination of her former captor to take her out so she cannot help the FBI make a case against him.
However, there is a twist the plot that includes a woman in the chief’s town who has secluded herself from interaction with others. Now, with this witness being hunted, the question is whether the recluse will risk her identity, home and life in order to help bring down the ringleader of the traffickers. Along with all that going on there is romance that may or may not bloom between the chief of police and the local pastor who is widowed. Will the female congregants see this as a good match, or will they interfere?
Each story Janice Cantore has written grabs the attention and heart of the reader as my experience has shown. There is mystery, intrigue, suspense and twists in the plot that make the ending a total surprise! Plus, with just the right touch of romance it makes for an enjoyable read. The other element of the tales that provoke thought is the faith or lack thereof in the characters, which to me reflects real people doing life. So, if you’re looking for a book that entertains, grabs your heart, and bolsters your faith, here is one author who brings all that to her stories. I hope you enjoy reading her books as I have.
I’ve read several books by Janice Cantore, but this series may be my favorite. Characters are real and believable, and the plot offers enough twists and turns to keep me interested from the start. Just when I think I know what’s coming next, she throws a curve ball!
If you like stories about police procedure and a good mystery, you will enjoy this one.
How can one teeny tiny Oregon town attract so much trouble? But it most definitely leads to engaging and pleasurable reading.
Janice Cantore’s third and final installment in The Line of Duty series brings readers back to Rogue’s Hollow where Police Chief Tess O’Rourke’s relationship with God had developed (as has her relationship with the town pastor Oliver McPherson).
When a federal agent approaches her about sheltering a witness who can take down a big gun in a sex trafficking sting, Tess isn’t certain it’s the best choice for the town that has just settled from a corrupt law enforcement officer, a drug take down, and a recent forest fire.
Cold Aim is a fantastic continuation of Tess’s new life in Oregon, her growth as a LEO and a person, and the trust she’s gaining from the residents of Rogues Hollow (even though there are still plenty of those who aren’t afraid to express their negative opinions). The action and suspense are top notch and the tie-in to an older crime is seamless.

I really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job with inspiration of faith, hope, and prayer. Was very well written. Thankful to have read it
Returning to Rogue Hollow with Tess and Oliver made for quite an amazing ride. In Cold Aim, Janice Cantore took readers on a wild ride through the world of running away from human trafficking. While this topic has become quite popular in suspense novels lately, Cantore actually created a story about the characters on the run about to squeal on their captors. The action started in the first chapter and did not let up. Cantore stuck Tess in a number of horrible situations and allowed her to sink or swim. I liked spending more time with Tess and, after reading all three novels, seeing her change from the character we encountered in the first series. The romance between Oliver and Tess does change and have a little bit of romance, but nothing too gushy. Nothing close to a contemporary romance take on the love. The only downside to the entire novel, in my opinion, is what will happen to Tess and Oliver. Does she learn to balance police work and her love of the pastor? Does she cling to her faith more? Hopefully, Cantore creates something that have them appear in another story later in their lives. I really enjoyed this installment, and I really can’t wait to see what comes next from Janice Cantore.
I received a complimentary copy of Cold Aim by Janice Cantore from Tyndale Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
4.5 stars
“It’s not weak to admit the truth to the one you love.”
Rogue Hollow Police Chief Tess O’Rourke is a woman who never backs down, especially when it comes to protecting her constituents. Following an horrific area forest fire, she has barely has time to lift evacuation orders when the F. B. I. pays her a surprise visit; they have a young witness whom they couldn’t even trust Federal Marshalls to protect; the stakes are so high and the corruption is so deep. Can they bring her to O’Rourke’s town?
When Tess chooses principle over protection, she risks making the biggest mistake of her career; will her decision dismantle a ruthless international trafficking organization or will her actions severely compromise the safety of her citizens? Tess’s growing faith in God stands to be challenged, and her growing attachment to Pastor Oliver Macpherson, severely tested.
A really outstanding story in every way!
Oh my gosh, this book was amazing. The author has you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end, and will keep you guessing just as long. I really liked this book, I had a hard time putting it down. I like Tess she’s a stubborn, hard headed, independent person who will stop at nothing to protect those in her town and those she loves. I Loved Livie she was so amazing a strong too. I think so many books now a days make the men the hero, but I would have to say there were a lot of female heroes in this story. I felt like I was not reading fiction, but non-fiction in a sense. There were so very tough subjects in this story but things that are very much happening in every day life. I really had nothing bad to say about this book and I can’t wait to read more from this author. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
Evil is loudly spoken of from the beginning what motivates then to do evil.
They were cleaver and able ro evade the law. Rogue Hollow a small community the chief wants to keep it safe, when asked to give shelter to a witness from a drug and human trafficking. A fire and the clean up crew brings in evil. There is plenty of non stop action, that is well written to keep one to the end. Given ARC by Net Galley and Tyndale for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
The drama starts early; right from the start in fact. And it just keeps coming. It also had me guessing all over the place. Especially about who Livie Harp was and why she was so security obsessed. Not only security obsessed but being independent without the need for outside reliance.
That’s not the only thing that got my attention though. There is plenty of drama and action being played out. There are several other mysteries and dramas being played out as well as the main one. Speaking of action, there is plenty of that. I felt like it was a well written story with some strongly evil people. Not only evil but really clever. They were also people who had evaded the law for quite a while. Get the feeling that this town and this chief is going to be part of where that comes grinding to a halt?
It also had strong main characters and a supporting cast of people. Some of the issues that the people of Rogue’s Hollow was facing were unique but some were also typical of a small community. There was actually a fairly large cast of people to the story but after a few chapters it wasn’t that hard to keep up.
For those that want to know there are some heavy subjects to address but also a strong Christian faith being a part of the story too.
I liked how Oliver, the pastor and Tess worked and struggled together. People kept trying to tell them that they were just too different and far apart in their way of life to be a good match. Even the people in his church felt that Oliver needed a different kind of woman. How typical that a least one older woman felt she had to keep poking her nose in their business, trying to tell them how to live. You know she didn’t just stop with Oliver but let Tess know her negative thoughts as well. At least she didn’t throw in a “Thus said the Lord,” because you know she never asked him.
I was extremely happy with how the book ended and with the Epilogue as well.
There is also a small section with Discussion Questions at the end of the book.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Janice Cantore’s third novel in her Line of Duty series, Cold Aim, provides a fascinating view of law enforcement and crime in the 21st century. The author’s experience as a 22-year veteran of the Long Beach Police Department in California gives readers an authentic and realistic glimpse into the dangers that law enforcement face as they risk their lives daily to protect the citizens of this country.
Cold Aim can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel since the author provides insight into events that occurred in the small town of Rogue’s Hollow and Police Chief Tess O’Rourke’s history prior to this novel. Readers may enjoy reading the entire series to get a better understanding of Tess O’Rourke’s background and previous occurrences in Rouge’s Hollow, but it is not essential for understanding the storyline in Cold Aim.
Police Chief Tess O’Rourke’s journey continues in Cold Aim as she assists the FBI in hiding a witness in a human trafficking case, despite a huge safety risk to her small town. With all the evil she has seen during her career in law enforcement, Tess’s faith continues to waiver, but her close friend and confidant, local pastor Oliver, believes in the power of prayer and the ability for people to change after accepting the grace of God. In this action-packed novel, Janice Cantore immediately captures the attention of the readers and keeps them highly invested in the storyline until the very last page. Cold Aim is recommended for readers who enjoy realistic suspense novels filled with inspiration, hope, and light on the romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
‘There is no matter of degree to sin. All of us have our own baggage.’
Janice Cantore brings us book 3 in her Line of Duty series and it’s wonderful. Cantore is a retired police officer and it shows in her books. I love that she brings her expertise to her writing. I was drawn in from the very first and could not tear myself away.
Police Chief Tess O’Rourke is over a small town in Oregon that is suffering in the aftermath of a devastating fire and then the FBI shows up on her doorstep asking for help in hiding the witness to a brutal crime lord’s human trafficking case. Tess doesn’t want to put the people of her tiny hamlet in harm’s way, but agrees after seeing the pastor’s conviction to help those in need. Tess and Pastor Oliver Macpherson have been seeing each other and he is helping her with her newfound faith.
Things soon heat up with crews of workmen come from out of town to help with the fire clean up and a vicious killer is one of the crew, unbeknownst to Tess or anyone else. He will stop at nothing to find this witness and kill her. Then there is that 25 year old murder case that already home to Rogue Hollow and Tess fears for her town nearly every moment.
Cantore manages to keep the reader completely engrossed in this story, which plays out like an episode of Law and Order, only better. I loved this book and look forward to more from Cantore.
*My thanks to the publisher for a preview copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinions stated here are entirely my own.

Another great book by Janice Cantore. Tess is on the verge of getting baptized when a fire sweeps through town. Everything is put on hold until the fire is under control and clean up is under way. In the midst of all this she is hiding a witness in a high profile case. Gunmen are sent to take out the witness and anyone that gets in their way. Tess and Oliver’s relationship is tested when he questions why she has to take so many risks. As the story comes to a head, lives are at stake.
This is not an edge of your seat suspense. But it is a great mystery. I highly recommend you read it. This is the third book in the series. It would be beneficial to read the first two books but not necessary.
I received this book from Tyndale Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
