This is such a wonderful story to start off this series. I loved this story and the hero and heroine, and most of the other characters.
This has everything you could possibly want in a really good story. As a historical, and with a strange beginning, this one is a real winner for this author. Wow, a teacher, a ranchers son and a ship, crew, shanghaied men, one feisty woman who everyone thinks is a boy, danger, and romance and treachery pretty much gives you one fantastic tale you must read. I highly recommend this first story in a new series. I also would give this one at least eight stars if I could. I loved it that much
The Sailor and the School Teacher is unusual in that it is told primarily through flashback. The prologue provides the happily-ever-after, then the book shows how the characters got there. I’ve not read anything like this before, and highly enjoyed the concept. The characters are intriguing, and I learned a lot about the early days of shipping as well as life on a sailing vessel. Xenia’s background serves her well, and I like how she was able to band together with Birch and Barnaby (an old sea salt who is wonderful) to get through. She is tenacious and often reacts without thinking (part of what gets her into trouble to start with), but her personality makes for a fun character. I liked how things worked out in the end. A quick, satisfying story.
The characters are so fun from Xenia and her outgoing character to Birch and his protectiveness. The story was full of surprises and kept me glued to its pages. I love how the author gives us a glimpse into being a woman in a mans world full of hard work and danger. This story has it all from danger, action to romance! Don’t pass it up!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Another wonderful book! Xenia Wigg disappears one night from her School and home. Seeing a young man being abducted her heart goes out to him and she decides to rescue him in spite of the danger it may bring to herself. She follows him and his captors aboard a ship and is thrown into darkness. Birch Oakem is a cowboy from Montana and is a strong young man. He can hold his own. They decide that they must hide Xenia’s identity from the crew of the ship if she is to survive. This includes dressing as a man and looking like one as well.
Cropping her hair is the first thing that must be done! She becomes the ship’s cook and also does whatever else they need her to do. Including climbing into the Birds nest to be a lookout.
This book has it all intrigue, suspense and a rich romance. Danni Roan’s Characters come alive and jump off the page and right into your heart. Well written with depth and personality. A wonderful story to start a brand new spin off series from the Alphabet Brides.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
