Sometimes you really can fall in love at first sight… MacLaren of Berwyck is invited to the tournament by the Duke of Normandy. He goes to ensure Berwyck’s safety once Henry takes the throne. He does not expect to become entranced by a woman who bumps into him.
Before they can express their feelings, the Duke orders them wed to strengthen ties between his English supporters and the borderland, and then separates them by commanding Douglas’s escort to his home.
Yet, nothing is ever quite that simple. Not everyone is happy with the union of this English lady and a Scottish laird. From the shores of France, to Berwyck Castle on the border between their countries, Douglas and Catherine must find their way to protect their newfound love.

Good and sweet . Fast paced but a page tuner . Catherine dewolfe refuses to sold as a prize to any man looking to gain the dewolfe ties . Douglass refuses to let his castle that belong to Scotland go back to England. Upon meeting duke of Normandy soon be king , he makes Douglass and Catherine wed.
Catherine and Douglas’s story was interesting. I couldn’t put it down. I read until the end and did not stop until the last page. Sherry Ewing has taken a moment in history and wound a wonderful story of intrigue and love. It is story worthy of continuing…
Lady Catherine de Wolfe enjoys her life at the family castle and her friendship with the knights that protect them. She is aware that she must marry, but there has not been one man that has intrigued her and there lies her problem. She does not want her brother to make a match for her. When they receive an invitation to a tournament to celebrate the marriage of the Duke of Normandy, she goes along. Does she believe in love at first sight? Laird Douglas MacLaren of Berwyck is also invited and is smitten by his first glance of the Lady. Will English and Scottish make a match to help strengthen the cause of peace? Sherry Ewing has given us a wonderful romantic story to enjoy. I just wish there were more pages to turn.
Sherry Ewing once again proves she has an amazing talent in creating a story. This time Ms. Ewing showcases that talent with Lady Catherine de Wolfe and Laird Douglas MacLaren in To Love a Scottish Laird.
Who knew that a simple invitation to a tournament would lead to two unlikely people having their happily ever after? Ms. Ewing did, but not before she threw in a little strife and danger, which always makes that HEA all the sweeter. Oh, and a few secondary characters that we’ll hopefully see get their story.
(And any visit to Berwyck Castle is always a plus!)
As always, THANK YOU Ms. Ewing for an outstanding story!
Oh how I love this story. It’s the best of both worlds, we meet Dougkaoand Catherine Amelia’s parents from the hearts through time series as well as another tie game the DeWolfe’s. Douglas and Catherine quickly became one of my favorite book couples. She a head strong DeWolfe and Douglas the Laird of Berwyck Castle. Such an unlikely love story Sherry Ewing is the queen of Romance pulling my heart strings through the entire book. Love love love!!!
“Trust me…”
When Lady Catherine de Wolfe and Laird Douglas of Clan MacLaren met, the stars aligned as the planet paused its rotation. For a moment there was no one else but the two of them. Then the universe made plans that the politics of the day enacted.
To Love a Scottish Laird by Sherry Ewing is a sweet and charming 12th century love story. At it’s center is the trust and loyalty of two balanced souls who are willing to risk their hearts to reap a lifelong love.
I loved both Catherine and Douglas. Their characters are perfectly matched, and they each bring to the relationship strength, courage and kindness. In addition to the two main characters, I thought the supporting characters were well defined and properly placed within the story. This is not a lengthy stand-alone book, but it is well-written, properly paced and it has a happy ending with a satisfying epilogue.
Content alert: The language is free of vulgarities, but there is some passionate kissing and moderately described marital intimacy.
Disclosure: I received an complementary copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

Henry, the Duke of Normandy has married Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine and he wants to celebrate with a tournament of knights from England and Scotland. Padraig de Wolfe plans to attend with his family hoping he will find a suitable match for his sister, Catherine. Catherine knows it is time for to either wed or enter the nunnery. She isn’t eager to marry but cannot see herself as a nun either. Since she hasn’t found anyone suitable among her brother’s knights she is hopeful there will be someone at the tournament.
Laird Douglas of Clan MacLaren also receives an invitation to the celebration. Since the Scots and English have a tenuous relationship he feels he must attend to strengthen wht they do have. He also feels he might find a suiter for his sister, Frayer. On the first day of the tournament Catherine walks right into Laird Douglas.
Miss Ewing has brought together both the residents of Berwyck Castle and the de Wolfe clan in this novella. It is a wonderful love story filled with the excitement of a tournament, castles and a nemisis.
If you have read any of Miss Ewing’s other books you will love this one as well. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down.
1152 From Beloved Berwyck Castle at The Border of Scotland and Ireland to Caen, Normandy for a tournament to pay honor to the wedding of the Duke of Normandy and his new bride.
Fate was in the meeting of Douglas of Clan MacLaren and laird of Berwyck Castle and Lady Catherine de Wolfe! He was there to pay respects and compete and she was there with her brother who was competing also. Scottish and English and an instant attraction that could not be denied. One accidental touch and they could only gaze at each other.
But can this attraction go further or will unseen forces keep them apart? Douglas is the quintessential warrior with a big heart, especially for his sister and mother. Catherine is beautiful and strong but wants to marry for love and not just her status and fortune.
I was so happy to see this story by Sherry Ewing. She is one of my very favorite authors and has such a true gift of pulling at my heart with her characters and descriptions. I could feel the chemistry between these two coming off the pages and sighed many times as I highlighted so many passages in my kindle (yes, I might as well have highlighted the entire book!).
Prepare to sit for awhile because as you start the first page, you will not want to move until the end. I highly recommend this and all of her books! You can thank me later…
It seems the De Wolfe’s have always been ordered to marry for alliances thru the ages and for catherine is no different, just she is to marry a Scottish Laird. Soon after they are married he is ordered to escort the King to caen and catherine goes to the highlands. There is a lot of turmoil there and Catherines life is in jeopardy. Lots of action and newfound love. HEA.
Catherine de Wolfe knows she must marry. Her brother has been patient long enough. Henry Duke of Normandy is getting married and is having a Tournament/Festival…there she must choose a man worthy a de Wolfe. She wants love and she is determined to have it. Douglas MacLaren is the Laird of Berwyck (now back in Scottish hands) and has been invited. He knows that Henry will probably be King one day, so he knows he must accept so he doesn’t make an enemy in Henry. His people want peace but will fight to keep Berwyck Castle and the land in Scottish hands. He knows he will have to watch his back but he goes to please the Duke. While there Catherine runs into him and it is instant attraction on both their parts. They fight their attraction but even when the Duke of Normandy sees this, he knows he can’t pass up an alliance like this one. The tournament proves who is the worthy knight and our Laird doesn’t disappoint Catherine. She makes a wonderful choice and even though trouble arises she sees it through to be with her love!
There is pageantry, love, betrayal but most of all there is magic with these two! There characters are larger than life and their story of love at first sight sets up the future descendants of Berwyck Castle. Sherry Ewing has woven her magic and included the powerful de Wolfe family. Didn’t see that coming, but love it just the same. Heavy sighs all around…
