A beautiful but mysterious woman arrives in the castle courtyard one night, as the baron’s replacement to Lord Ricard Wellington’s betrothed. With eyes like emeralds and a smile that could melt even a hardened warrior’s heart, Lady Flora Debenham quickly captures Ricard’s interest. However, she is feisty as well as disobedient and keeps sneaking out of the castle walls. The woods are dangerous … and filled with Druids who he believes have killed his parents. Fearing for her safety, he follows her, hoping to learn her secrets.
Lady Flora takes her cousin’s place as the handsome Lord Ricard’s betrothed, but it is naught more than a ploy to get close to the Druids who are hiding nearby. Her dying mother reveals to her that her father was a Druid and that she was conceived at the festival of Beltane. The woman’s last wish was for Flora to find her father and return a sacred icon to him.
What starts out as nothing but a means to an end turns into an attraction to a man Flora never intended to marry. Ricard treats her like a queen, and she starts to fall in love. The only wedge between them is that he has vowed to hunt down and kill the same people she is trying to protect.
Will vengeance prevent the seeds of love from blooming?

Sir Ricard Wellington inherited his castle when his parents were killed by the Druids that live in the nearby forest. He has sworn to kill every Druid or Pagan but finding them is proving very difficult. To add to his problems his betrothed is not who he expected.
Lady Flora Debenham has her own reasons for swapping places with her cousin. None of them are anything to do with the man who she has promised to marry.
Our hero has absolutely no control over his castle. As for his two brothers, I don’t think they could make one brain between them. I would have to knock their heads together.
Our heroine is sneaky but also too innocent to realize what is going on.
There are lots of giggles in this story, mainly because of the idiot brothers.
It is part of a series but easily read alone. A good lighthearted read.
Another wonderful addition to The Holiday Knight’s series! Lord Richard inherited his castle when his partents where killed by the Druids who live in a forest nearby. He has vowed to kill them all! But he is having a hard time keeping everyone in order! Lady Flora arrives as his bethrothed but she is really taking her cousin’s place so she can be close to the Druids. She found out her father was a Druid and she wants to find him!
Humor, intrigue and a cast of characters make this story take a delightful story. Also love this authors tales and cannot wait for the next one!
May Queen: May Day (Holiday Knights #3) was a good read by Elizabeth Rose. Lady Flora Debenham comes to the courtyard with her uncle, the Baron, to replace the bride for Lord Ricard Wellington. He was supposed to marry her cousin Lady Gretta, but he finds out she’s pregnant by another. Lord Wellington wants to impress the Baron and the King. I really enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.
Sweet and romantic with a twist of Druid drama!
I enjoyed watching the attraction between Ricard and Flora unfold and bloom. I also enjoyed learning more about May Day, and about the Druids. I received an ARC of this book.
Lord Ricard Wellington wants to find his parents’ murderer(s). Lady Flora Debenham wants to find her father, who she has never seen. The problem is they are looking for the same people, a group of Druids dwelling in the forest around Ricard’s castle. This creates a difficult (to put it mildly) circumstance. Lady Flora has just been presented, by her uncle the Baron, as Ricard’s bride in place her cousin, Lady Gretta. There is to be a marriage, but will their cross purposes deny them a chance for love? What will happen if and when they find the Druids?
This is a fast-paced adventure filled with fun, fantastic characters, and a look at May Day rituals and celebrations in Medieval times. Ricard is brave, loyal, kind, and protective. He may be a little too concerned about what others think of him. Flora is feisty and determined, a bit sneaky and disobedient, and quite brave. She drives him crazy, but she is not alone. Ricard’s brothers and his squire frustrate him and add a big dose of humor to the story. The Holiday Knights series is interesting and entertaining. I recommend May Queen. It will make you want to dance around the May Pole.
a wonderful story full of complex and interesting characters. fun fast paced story. Flora sets out to find her father, switches places with her cousin , sets out to meet her fiance. The boys are all too ditzy! Lots of twists and turns. Loved the book
One night Lady Flora comes to Sir Ricard’s castle with her Uncle, the Baron. The Baron tells Sir Ricard that the marriage to his daughter is off and he is to marry the Lady Flora instead. He gives no reason for this, but the Lady Flora says Lady Gretta is pregnant with another’s man child. The Baron then leaves very swiftly and Sir Ricard is stunned. He feels something is wrong, but he doesn’t know what.
Lady Flora really wants to find her father and give him something from her dead Mother. She had no idea her Father is deceased. She just found out that her Father is alive ans a Druid and so is she. This is the only way she can think of to find out the truth.
Sir Ricard is determined to kill all Druids because he was told they killed his parents. This had Lady Flora anxious and scared.
Of course, the Author, Elizabeth Rose, has given us a history lesson on the Druids religion and some of their ceremonies. She also has put in her usual twists and turns to make the story exciting. I know you will enjoy this book.
May Queen
It was very interesting to learn about the origins of May Day starting as an ancient pagan Celtic Druidic celebration
I really liked Flora and Recard’s story because they both had a lot to learn. Flora about trust and keeping secrets and Recard about trust and letting go of the past. Flora, who is of druidic descent, is blackmailing her uncle so she could search for her father so she talked her uncle into substituting her for her cousin as Ricard’s intended bride. Unbeknownst to Ricard, whose parents had been murdered by a Druid, is unaware that his intended is a druid and has vowed to kill every last one of her kind. She sneaks off repeatedly to meet with her father in the forest and each time is found and manages to come up with some lame excuse which Ricard doesn’t seem to buy what can’t quite prove otherwise so he sets his squire Nash and his two bumbling brothers to spy on her and discover what she is really up to. His two brothers are basically comedy relief and they remind me of two of The Three Stooges but they really do deserve their own stories. There is a lot of twists and turns in this story and I highly recommend it. It is a guaranteed page turner that you won’t want to put down. If there was more then five star rating I would gladly give it a higher rating.
An interesting story surrounding druids, a maypole and finding ones heritage. Flora and Ricard and their quick betrothal will find them butting heads while she tries to secretly find the druids to get some answers about her parents while trying to keep Ricard from hunting them down. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Druid Shenanigans.
Flora discovers she has been lied to all her life and sets out on a risky journey to discover her father. Her plans for a temporary betrothal, as a cover for her true reason for being at Black Creek Castle, soon go awry and she is torn between the father she has never known and her fascination with her soon to be husband.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I didn’t care for the H, he came across weak and not in control. He could be talked out of things easily and that is not my kind of H.
The h lied and lied about her really reason to being switch with her cousin and who she was. I didn’t feel a connection at all to them. This is a clean story with only kisses.
There were some interesting moments which I took into account with my rating. I wanted to know the uncle’s reaction to their marriage. I couldn’t understand why the H wanted to marry so quickly, when he knew the h wasn’t truthful about anything. But, with neither one trusting the other, they declare their love. I just didn’t buy it, which I am obviously in the minority on this.
No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, no romance and clean. I enjoy stories about Druid’s and fae, but this just didn’t do it for me this time. (ljb)
