An orphaned miss who would not settle for less Otilia Kendall is an orphaned miss brought up by her uncle and aunt, the late Earl and Countess of Thornton. Never having met her father, she learned the hard way that love or marriage isn’t in her future. Tired of receiving demeaning propositions from the ton gents, she has decided to make her own way in the world. But then the domineering—and … domineering—and handsome as the devil—new Earl takes over. He gives her a dowry and carts her to London to marry her off. She wants none of it but has no choice. In close contact with the man, it is becoming impossible not to make a fool of herself—yet again!
An arrogant lord who could not stay away from her
Edmund, the hot-blooded new Earl, is stunned by the poise of the very grown-up debutante he once met. Weary of women interested only in his title, he shuns any idea of love. It is getting hard to ignore the little miss—together with some other hard parts of his anatomy. The temptation of her is eating at him and making him crave the woman to distraction. Their simmering passion is about to burst. And to the blazes with propriety.
And the love struggling to unite them
more
Otilia Kendall is all alone in the world. Her Aunt and Uncle loved and cared for her, but now they are gone. Otilia has a rocky relationship with Edmund, the new Earl. He rejected her years ago and it still hurts. Now he intends for her to marry. Why is he trying to dominate her? Otilia is a strong woman. She has spirit and determination. I was impressed that she won’t allow socially prominent men to disrespect her. Edmund is attracted to her, but he fights his feelings. I was sorry that a woman had deeply hurt him. It would be hard to deal with the fact that all she wanted was his money and title. I just wish that he wouldn’t assume that all women are the same. The chemistry between these two is so powerful that it leaps off the page. I couldn’t stop reading. I wanted to know if there would be a HEA for them. Lisa Torquay has written an amazing story. I fell in love with the characters. I’m looking forward to the second book in this series.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
Her Wicked Earl by Lisa Torquay is an outstanding historical romance. Ms. Torquay has once again given readers a well-written book. She has populated it with a stellar cast of characters that are both lovable and stubborn. Otilia was orphaned and raised by her aunt and uncle. Edmund is her uncle’s heir. Otilia and Edmund’s story is packed with drama, humor, action, smoking hot sex and one adorable kitten. I enjoyed every page of Her Wicked Earl and look forward to reading more from the talented Lisa Torquay in the future. Her Wicked Earl is book 1 of the Imperious Lords Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved Her Wicked Earl by Lisa Torquay! In the beginning I wasn’t completely sold on the characters and storyline because it’s been done before… a lot, but truthfully I was blown away, and quickly too. The author takes ordinary and makes it extraordinary. I could not put this book down. I flew through it! The writing is beautiful, it’s engaging, and the characters are unforgettable. Edmund is the definition of desirable alpha male *swoon*. He fights his attraction to Otilia and tries to keep her at a distance, but he doesn’t stand a chance against the explosive chemistry he has with her. Otilia was hurt once before by his accusations and is determined to remain detached and not allow herself to fall into the humiliating situation of loving him again. Try as she might, the intense passion wins out. The story is filled with tension and emotion and I felt it all! I highly recommend this book!!
Book one in the Imperious Lords series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Novella length told in dual POV with HEA. Otilia and Edmund have history but haven’t seen each other in eight years. They both have misconceptions about the other. They have a strong attraction to each other, but they do not trust each other’s intentions. They struggle to fight their passion, then their lack of communication causes hurt feelings. Good historical romance with just the right steam!
This is a love story that was long in the making. Otilia has loved Edmund for more than eight years and now he is back in her life after inheriting the old Earl’s title and properties. Edmund is determined to arrange a marriage for Otilia and has decided to settle a dowry on her as an enticement to a gentleman. She has no intention of marrying and avoids the ton as much as possible. Forced to go to London, she is propositioned by the gentlemen who believe that she is easy prey because of her being illegitimate. There is a HEA but not before Edmund almost destroys the one person he has come to love. This a great read and I would highly recommend this book.
Otilia was an orphan , her mother who came from aristocrat family had a child out of wedlock so she never knew her father. Upon her mother’s death her mothers sister and her husband took her in. She was raised with agreat education and was the child they never had. Then they too had past away leaving her on her own , she took care of the home while the new lord her uncle’s cousin inherited. The man she fell in love with and he broke her heart.
Edmund finally returns from his business to do his duty as the new Lord of his uncles estate. Upon arrival he see Otilia the woman whom told him she loved him years ago , but he wasnt falling for her climbing the latter to his title trapp of marriage. He decided to marry her off its the least he could for his cousin. While the past is past he refuses to fall victim to marriage traps and she refuses to let him rule her. While yet maybe they are just right for each other.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are realistic with reaction of situations. You feel for a man who grew ice around his heart to protect it and woman who feels she has no-one to love her since her heart was broken and she was left alone in the world
I was give an advance reader copy for my honest review .
ARC
This was the first book I have read from this author and I was surprised by how well written it was. The characters were strong and plot was great. I wasn’t sure how it would progress because at the beginning there was so much animosity between Edmund and Otilia due to the past. They both had very strong personalities and I was so glad that Otilia stayed strong and kept her self respect by not giving into the “easy” life. I would recommend and do look forward to the next book in the series.
A wonderful story from a new author. This shows great promise for things to come. She sticks to the story, has well developed plot and characters and focuses on her main characters.
From the start Edmund and Otilia have a fierce attraction to each other. This is based on a previous experience 8 years ago. Otilia is fierce and witty. She is a strong female character who exudes fierce independence. Edmund is all alpha male who is intent on bending her to his will. A battle wages for dominance that explodes in and out of the bedroom.
There are delightful surprises in the story that the reader will enjoy. It is a page-turner with a happy ending.
Intriguing beginning to a series. Edmund was a sweet man underneath his boorish personality and newly-acquired title. Otilia was a refreshing breath of air for him and for the story. I enjoyed the interactions between the two of them as they danced around what was right in front of them, and the heat of that attraction did not hurt. I recommend this story.
I received a copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
I was hooked from the beginning. Edmund and Otilia’s chemistry was scorching hot! I loved how Otilia stood up for herself even though what Earl says, that goes. But at the same time she did this on purpose once she knew how affected Edmund was by her actions.
Edmund was this domineering man, who thought he could just give orders to anyone. I’m glad Otilia put him in his place.
At first, when I saw the cover I was thinking if this book will be good because I admit, I totally judge a book by its cover. To be honest, the cover looks average. But since I already know that good cover doesn’t mean a good book just like average cover doesn’t mean a bad book, I gave it a chance. But mostly what makes me want this book was the blurb. It promises heat, spicy moments and a beautiful story. So of course, I was in! It was exactly what I needed.
A major thank you to the author who contacted me on Goodreads. This book was exactly my cup of tea and I’m so glad you gave me the chance and send me an ARC. I’m truly honored and flattered. I’m definitely reading your other books too!
5 stars.

How wicked can you get!
This was my first book by Lisa Torquay, a new to me author and I really loved reading it. One reason, my 1st romance ‘love’ was in the historical genre and I’ve read soooo many of them, I couldn’t count them if I tried. My sister and I used to read our ‘forbidden’ books as teens, under the covers with flashlights so our mom wouldn’t know we weren’t sleeping for school..so funny!
Lisa’s new release, Her Forbidden Earl, reminded me of why a good historical romance is just what I need sometimes. I especially loved the tone of her writing, wording and how she gave me feeling of actually being in one of my favorite time periods, British Regency. She’s also not afraid of steamy scenes, which I personally appreciate and must find in a good romance, no matter the moment in time.
Her h, Otilia, was orphaned and illegitimate but raised like a lady in the household of the Earl of Thornton, her mothers sister, his countess. They treated her as if she was their own daughter, but now she will to have to leave her beloved home.
After her aunts’, then her uncles’recent passing, she is now at the mercy of the new heir, someone she’d rather not see or be around ever again. She makes herself useful keeping house, the household accounts and whatever else she can to stay as long as possible.
Edmund, our H, can’t believe his eyes when he finds sweet, beautiful Otilia doing work best left for the servants. Only it seems she is no longer sweet and does not appear happy to see him in the least, in fact she seems to hate the sight of him.
Well, as you might guess, there’s a lot of story to look forward to here and some misunderstood feelings that due to the propriety of the times, will need to be sleuthed for and deduced by both H and h. Watching the sensual, steamy, slow burn as these two figure out their true feelings was delicious and delightful. Anyone who loves a well written Regency romance will want to grab this one. I ripped through this quickly to get my HEA and found it to be a very enjoyable way to spend the afternoon!
An ARC was provided for me to read and enjoy. This is my honest and unbiased review of it.
*I was given an ARC for an honest review.* I felt like this book was very verbose and slow at the beginning but it definitely picked up around the 50% mark. I enjoy books with strong heroines that do not want to rely on a man for everything. If you enjoy romances set in this time period, you should give this book a try. The end is worth wading through the beginning.
Great Series Starter!
This story promises to be a great beginning to this new series.
It is written with compassion, good humor and passion and there are quite a few sections that left me feeling quite breathless.
The main characters are both extremely headstrong and hot blooded.
Otilia has loved Edmund for years but he has had a disastrous relationship with another lady and hasn’t recovered from it, so when they meet again neither is sure how to act with the other.
There were so many twists and turns but it was very easy to keep track of exactly what was going on, in fact this is a really good page-turner which I found totally entertaining.
My voluntary and unbiased review as above is given as an Advance Reader of this ebook and I am happy to recommend it.
