What Comes My Way is the conclusion of Tracie Peterson’s Brookstone Brides series. In this book the main Characters are Ella Fleming and Phillip DeShazer. Ella is a trick stunt rider for The Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza, an all woman show. Phillip DeShazer is a wrangler for the show.
Ella left her home in Kentucky when her father tried to force her to marry Jefferson Spiby. He was much older than her and a very cruel man. She didn’t love him and the last thing she wanted to do was marry him to please her father. There was also more about this man that kept Ella away from her family.
Phillip DeShazer hides an awful secret in his heart. One so terrible that he has turned to alcohol to keep from thinking about his past. He would love to get to know Ella better and he feels Ella would like to spend time with him too, but with his dependence on alcohol what could he offer her. What could be so awful in Phillip’s past that holds him in its powerful grip?
This book held me on the edge of my seat a time or two. It was gripping and unpredictable as the past seemed to catch up to our main characters. Although I enjoyed all three books in this series I felt this one was the best. I would enjoy seeing another book released about Mara and Abe.
This book is for readers of Christian Historical Romance fiction. All fans of Tracie Peterson will love this series. If you have read the other two books in the series you won’t want to miss book three.
I downloaded a Kindle ebook copy of What Comes My Way to my Hoopla App. A review was not requested. All opinions expressed here in this review are my own.
A great finale to an unforgettable trilogy! Tracie made this such a fantastic story, I think it’s my favorite of the three books in this series. As a little girl watching Roman Riders in rodeos, I used to dream of doing the same, just like the heroine in this book does. I don’t think I could ever have had the nerve to do what Ella does though! I definitely recommend this book as a fun historical romance!
BRAVO! Ella Fleming and Phillip DeShazer’s journey to wholeness is wrought with seemingly overwhelming hurdles. Their journey shows the faithfulness of the Lord, when we trust in Him. He along can bring beauty from ashes.
I enjoyed reading about the wild west show with all female performers. I was captivated by their skill and bravery!
Recommend to those who enjoy inspirational historical romance.
I won a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
This continues the story of the all-female wild west show from the 1900’s. There are more conflicts and struggles, even some leftover ex-slavery issues. A good read.
A Satisfying End!
While the 1902 females perform an exciting Wild West Show for the public, they live a wild life in private. After overcoming many obstacles to be together, Lizzy and Wes have barely settled into married life, when Wes abruptly leaves the show without her.
Wes nobly does it to make a last-ditch effort to stop Phillip’s drinking, but Lizzy’s feelings of abandonment spur her on to take dangerous chances, ones she promised not to. She also tries to protect Oliver from fortune hunter, Amanda, who is determined to marry him for his money. Will Amanda make it down the aisle with him, or will the truth come out about her, and destroy Oliver?
The shocking revelation of the true owner of the show stuns everyone, and leads to a turn of events. Ella continues to hide in the show from the cruel and dangerous man who insisted on marrying her. She has contact with her ostracized family which leads to surprising events, including the biggest danger of her life. Also, the mystery behind August Reichert’s death is revealed.
Don’t miss this third part of the series where thrills, intrigue, surprises and betrayal abound. Faith is a natural part of the tale, and adds depth to all the characters. Even if you haven’t read the other books, I highly recommend this 5-star story to anyone who enjoys exciting yarns.

What Comes My Way by Tracie Peterson is the final book in the Brookstone Brides trilogy. I thought What Comes My Way was a satisfying conclusion to the series. This is a series of books that you need to read in order. Each book builds upon the previous one with the search for justice for the death of August Reichert running throughout all three books. Ella Fleming had to flee her family farm when Jefferson Spiby wanted her for his bride and her father would not protect her from the letch. Ella has been performing as a trick rider with the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza with her friends, Mary Reichert and Lizzy Brookstone. Ella has come to care for Phillip DeShazer, but the tremendous guilt he feels regarding his part in his father’s death keeps him drinking copious quantities of alcohol. Ella reassures him the God will forgive his sins if only Phillip asks it. Unfortunately, Phillip is not ready. Mary is engaged to Chris Williams and they are planning their wedding. Lizzy and Wes are touring with the show at Rebecca Brookstone’s request. She wants them to keep an eye on Oliver. It is a good thing Lizzy is present because the new seamstress, Amanda Moore has sunk her claws into Oliver. Lizzy does not trust the seamstress who spends more time with Oliver than with a needle and thread. I thought What Comes My Way contained Tracie Peterson’s trademark writing along with strong female characters. Faith, prayer, forgiveness and trusting God are themes that run throughout the story. My favorite phrase is “Trust in God. He is our source of strength.” There is also danger and intrigue in the story. Jefferson Spiby is not about to go down quietly nor let Ella get away so easily. I was very pleased with how What Comes My Way ended. It was nice to see growth from the characters especially Philip. Family, friendship, and faith are the focus of What Comes My Way. Those readers who indulge in historical novels will enjoy the Brookstone Brides trilogy. What Comes My Way is a fulfilling historical novel with handsome horses, tremendous tricks, a malicious murderer, outrageous offenses, caring chums, and persistent Pinkerton agents.
Tracie Peterson wraps up her Brookstone Brides series with Ella and Phillip’s story as the central focus. First, let me say that this is a series you’ll definitely want to read in order. If you’ve been waiting for all of the books, now’s the time to start book one.
What Comes My Way brings closure to events that started in book one, all while letting readers experience the thrill of an all-female wild west show.
This was a fun and unique series with twists and turns, fabulous explanations of trick riding and sharp shooting, ethical dilemmas, wonderful characters, and strong faith threads. I’m a little sorry to see the end.

I love the blend of characters and the author’s skill in weaving their stories together. The story about the shows is lovely.
This is a wonderful blend of stories of families, friends, freedom from various bondages, forgiveness and love.
The dialogue between characters was okay for a quiet, slow read.
I received a copy of this book from Netgallery and this is my honest opinion.
(4.5 stars) – favorite of the series!
[This is the eagerly awaited conclusion of Tracie Peterson’s Brookstone Brides trilogy. While it is capable of standing alone, I do recommend reading the series for a fuller appreciation of the story]
Ella has made her place in the Brookstone show, but her past isn’t done with her yet. Phillip’s past is haunting him in a different way, but it’s making it really hard to quit drinking.
This one is the most action packed and suspenseful of the three & was very exciting. The conclusion wraps everything up satisfactorily & happily. This is one of Tracie Peterson’s best series to date!
*Clean romance level: sweet kisses
*Religion: overtly Christian, characters’ religious discussions are fairly generic. Non-Christians will likely find it a tad preachy, but excepting those disposed to be annoyed, it’s easily skimmed
What Comes My Way by Tracie Peterson is a wonderful way to end the Brookstone Brides series. I loved hanging out with these characters and watching them change and fall in love by the end of the series. With What Comes My Way, Peterson tied up a lot of loose ends and allowed the predictable romance to follow its path. Even though I knew how the romance would play out, I was still invested each of the characters’ lives and couldn’t wait to see how the story ended. Not much a spiritual element to the plot, but overall, the characters lived out God’ s love in their stories. Organically included in the story. I enjoyed it that way. The plot was wonderfully written, and I really can’t wait to buy all three novels and place them on my keeper shelf. I believe anyone who enjoys historical stories should pick up this novel and leave reality for a couple of hours.

I will start this review by saying I did not read the previous books in this series, so I was constantly trying to fit pieces of the puzzle together. Especially in regards to the relationships of the characters. I would suggest reading the other books before reading this one….. The year IS 1902 and Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza is an all-female show filled with women of extraordinary talent with horses. Ella one of the trick riders is running from a man her father wanted her to marry and she is afraid of him. She finds out that her family, especially her father is not what she always thought him to be. There is mystery, suspense, danger along with romance within these pages. Also faith and learning to forgive and trust……..I received a complimentary copy of What Comes My Way by Tracie Peterson from Bethany House via NetGalley, but the opinions stated are all my own.
