She needed a hero after the storm. When he arrives in the form of her first love, a sexy former Navy Seal, she has a second chance at love and someone to help her weather the storms to come. After nearly three weeks without power, Kelsey Jackson hopes for a hero. The hurricane should have only been a category one and hadn’t been predicted to sit in one place for nearly a week. Yet it’d intensified … it’d intensified and parked, leaving them without power far longer than she’d planned. Now, with food and water running low, and the generator out of fuel leaving her mother on backup oxygen tanks, she needs help—and fast. When Commander Ryder Hanson shows up with the medical evacuation team, he’s the hero she needs. He slipped out of her life once; she’s determined not to let him get away again.
Ryder, a former Navy Seal, couldn’t believe when he’d heard Kelsey’s voice coming across the dispatch line. He knew he had to be the one to take care of her and her mother. With her mother safely at a hospital, he returns to bring her supplies for her and her cats. He’ll only be in the area for a few weeks, but he’s determined to rekindle their old flame to see where it leads. If he isn’t mistaken, her passion runs as hot as his.
Storm recovery is never smooth and when her mother’s health takes a turn for a worse, Kelsey is forced to come face to face with her worst fears. With Ryder’s volunteer time ending, will her hurricane hero blow out of her life as quickly as he’d returned? And if he does, will she be left all alone?

This is the first book I have read from Mary and it will not be the last I have already added her to my TBR list. This book hits two of my favorite things I love a good second chance romance and I am a sucker for a Seal. This was a good interesting read I liked the characters and found myself rooting for them. This was a really good read I cannot wait to read more.
The storm was only going to be small and disappear quickly but it lasted longer as well as a lot worse. She has no power, she is running out of fuel, food and even oxygen for her mum. He will come to her rescue. What about her heart? Can this be there a second chance for them? See how they get on

The storyline was well written and the characters were so well rounded that I was totally enthralled as I turned each and every page until the very end!
The storm that blows in brings more than gale force winds. A second chance and a heartbreak of a different kind. Trying to hold up and hope for the best. This really is not a romance for the faint of heart it will bring you sorrow and sympathy.

ENTERTAING and inspiring read. Backstories give insight into the characters personas. The author shows how volunteers aid in evacuations with vivid scene descriptions. Kelsey and Ryder’s chemistry is convincing and both are credible characters; a perfect match; enjoyed reading their sto
This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but I loved it and look forward to reading more. I have been through a hurricane and only lost power for a week. I.ended up.in the hospital. I can’t imagine being in Kelsey’s position, with her mother on oxygen. The generator was almost empty and food and water low. She called in.for an emergency evacuation and her old boyfriend ex Ranger appeared. He came back with food and wAter for her and the cats. This was sad, but a great second chance romance.

How would you fare with no electricity, isolated by fallen wires and downed trees for over a month? Many can say they struggled with that a couple weeks, but not in isolation as Kelsey does. Hurricanes do not always follow the predictions, and sometimes you just cannot evacuate. Kelsey remains with her mother as the storm worsens, stalls, and isolates her, her mother, and their cats for over a month.
When she finally gets a signal as her supplies dwindle to nothing, she is able to call for an emergency airlift, and it is her childhood sweetheart who left her behind when he became a Seal who appears before her. But Ryder has not forgotten Kelsey.
This is a bittersweet romance, as Kelsey has already been widowed, and now she watches her mother dying. But Kelsey finds Ryder keeps returning.
I enjoy second chance romances with strong characterization. Her storm descriptions capture the endless darkness and her fear as heavy winds and rain buffet the house. I found the new gadgets fascinating that her storm preparation introduces me to, which along with her mother’s care and her clean-up efforts capture her strength and independent spirit.

When Kelsey called for emergency evacuation for her sick mother she did not expect to see Ryder.
Kelsey had prepared for a month but the Hurricane had sat over them for weeks rather than pass over as predicted so now with the generator failing she has to call to have her sick mother evacuated. She is surprised to see old flame Ryder coming to rescue and he promises to bring her supplies later after her mother is safe. Ryder is shocked when hears Kelsey’s voice on the emergency call and knows he will be taking it. When they meets he knows he will be fighting for a future. A romance to relax and enjoy.

The story starts with a hurricane. It was a bad one and after 3 weeks being cut off from civilisation and with the generator not working any more she needed help for her mother, who is seriously ill. Her old highschool sweetheart hears the call and organises the evacuation and uses the chance to get back together with her.
An easy to read straight forward story with little excitement, but well-written and entertaining.

when so much is necessary to survive, and moments so close to death have happened so many times – final ends can be surprisingly abrupt.
in this moving story, Kelsey cares for her ailing mother. She had been caring for her cancer ridden husband before that.
luckily for Kelsey, when her husband died, he left thing arranged so that Kelsey was able to care for her mother full time.
Kelsey is faced with what was supposed to be a Category 1 storm event, that hit much harder. She and her mother were much luckier than those that lost their lives and homes abruptly in the storm. They did however spend weeks with her mother on limited generator and oxygen supply. The loss of the little things that bring comfort in a home make it harder to leave – and the burden of being unable to exfil alone is heavy – a fatal outcome due to staying in place not impossible.
Ryder is an old flame who heard the 911 plea for a medical evacuation. He puts his retired military skills and networking efforts together to find a way to help.
A second chance for Ryder and Kelsey, amid destruction and death, and many life changes.
Moving, sweet, steamy, and real enough to make me cry again.
a powerful Kindle Unlimited read.
