Obey. Submit. Don’t fail me–or you’ll die.I wake up to these words, kidnapped, bound and at the mercy of a man who is as gorgeous as he is cruel. And I have no idea what is going on.I left my calm small-town home to celebrate with my best friend, and now I’m the captive of a criminal—a man who wants to trade me as part of a deal with the Mafia. He says he’ll train me. He tells me to trust him, to … he’ll train me.
He tells me to trust him, to obey his command and to bend at his will.
He is prepping me for a war that I’m not ready to fight.
He is my only chance to survive.
My captor—and my only solace.

Oh this was such a fantastic read, it had me hooked from page 1 and on the edge of my seat for the entire book. Could not put the book down, and I ended up reading it in one sitting. Can’t wait for more
This is a good first start for this duet. When Malia is kidnapped after Jayson and Liliane’s wedding, she is terrified. Especially when she meets her abductors. Nate and his two cohorts see Malia at the casino and Nate decides that she can be Lailah’s twin. Malia/Onyx will be perfect for the mission they need to complete. She may look like Leilah, but Malia is nothing like her. Nate has a short amount of time to train Onyx to be what he needs her to be. Nate and Onyx have a strong chemistry but is not acted upon, and it ratchets up the sexual tension between them. Nate feels something for Onyx, but is it real or all part of the plan? This has mystery, suspense and it does get instense as the story goes on. The story between Onyx and Nate is dark and twisted and I can’t wait to see what happens between them, and if they will complete their mission.
Malia’s story starts with her being kidnapped on the night of her best friends wedding.
Nate is the one who is going to train her for an assignement. He does that in a very unusual way….
It’s dark, hot and sometimes a bit scary. Linnea May knows how to write to capture me in the story.
I need the next part now.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
4.5/5 stars! What a read!!! A dark, twisted, manipulative tale that left me turning the last page with vigor and internally screaming, “Nooo! I need more!”
Linnea May has this incredible ability to fill an entire novel with a timeline that is extremely short but feels like a lifetime! Malia, the best friend of Liliane aka Petal finds herself in almost the same exact darkened, unknown, tragic situation she watched her best friend survive just months before. Malia is now the one held against her will and she has no idea why or who her captors are.
Her interactions with the culprits shed very little light on the situation or explain why she’s an intricate piece of their scheme. All she knows is that she has to pretend to be someone else, simply because she looks eerily similar to a woman named Lailah.
Despite her fears, she feels some kind of way about Nate, the mastermind behind the plan. She feels safe with him even though she knows she should be terrified for her life. Nate starts to share similar feelings about Malia, even though he knows he can’t want her and things can never be between them.
Malia and Nate’s story left me begging for the next installment. I can’t wait to find out what secret ulterior motive Lailah discloses to Malia that Nate has!
This book has left me nearly speechless. And the sudden cliff-hanger stop at the end doesn’t help to settle my brain back in place. The story teases us with little bits of the ‘why’ behind Malia’s plight, but Nate’s still holding all the cards and there’s a whole other book still to go. The chemistry between this pair is compelling and I’m dying to find out what Nate really has planned.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
This is the first book in the Onyx duet. If you read the Petal duet, you will remember Malia as a secondary character. Malia is caught up in some twisted darkness, dragged there by Nate and his group. At first, Nate is impulsive and unsure but Malia is too scared to see that. The plan to include Malia seems like a suicide mission. The chemistry between them is undeniable, though. The story is still unfolding, and I look forward to reading the second part.
