The Sailor and the Siren by Reina Torres is a masterfully written story that takes place up and down the Mississippi River on a steamboat. Book 2 of “Sailors and Saints”, but can be read as a stand alone.
This is the story of, the Siren, Rosemary Tillman and Robert Brooks, a gifted musician, who was been pressed into service as a child, on a ship. Together, they find something special. A quick read that will keep you turning pages. What a sweet, heartwarming story of love, and romance.
Romance, dark secrets, and learning that love endures and entails more than some can give. Wonderful, and realistic characters. The storyline is unpredictable, exciting and engaging. Beautifully written story of finding a HEA amidst a scandal. I enjoyed the feel of working on a steamboat, the compadre between the crew and the blossoming romance between Robert and Rosemary. I look forward to the next adventure.

Great book. Andrew Brooks didn’t have a good thing with ships. But he was starting a job on a steamboat know as The Siren. When on the same boat is one Miss Rosemary Tillman things got interesting.
Rosemary Tillman is just a assistant to the cook. She dreams of singing. When he meets Andrew and something inside heats up.
But there’s a secret she learns about her mother.
While Andrew has every intention of courting Miss. Tillman he’s warned he should keep his distance from the captain himself. What will he do? He doesn’t know what to do.
When the performer on the ship leaves the captains wife does something a little unkind to Rosemary.
See what happens. Buy this book..
Andrew Brooks grew up on board a Merchant ship, entertaining people with music. He first was pressed into service for that ship, but it didn’t work for him. Before they rid themselves of him they realized he could entertain the crew with music. He has heard about the School that retrains Seamen for a different future. Dare he try to become something better? He takes the chance and learns a trade. Managing cargo on the Steamboat the Siren gives him a much better future in his eyes.
Rosemary Tillman has worked her way up in the kitchen aboard the Siren to Cook. She dreams of other things. She wants to be a singer. She spends her free time listening to the music and dreams of entertaining with her voice. Can these two become a wonder and have a future larger than either of them imagined?
As in any love story, there will be some storms to endure and their love will be tested.
Such wonderful and engaging characters. They grabbed me instantly and pulled me into this amazing book. Reina Torres is one of my favorite Authors and her books do not disappoint!
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
I’m loving this series and this story didn’t disappoint.
Her ability to take us on a journey to the past is indescribable. These characters and the storyline made me feel I am reading a story about real people and a piece of history long lost and refound.
Well done Reina Reina Torres
Once again, this author has written a most wonderful story of love and romance and this time on River boat on the Mississippi River called the Siren.
Her captain has such great love for this boat that has many secrets, one surrounding the lovely cook’s assistant.
The new cargo master just hired on finds himself in the kitchen hoping for bite to eat before the crew actually gets their dinner.
He is instantly smitten with this lovely woman that he wants to court her.
The captain of the river boat has a wonderful demeanor and is very kind to the crew. His wife however is not.
This story has well built wonderful characters in all of them mentioned. It has fun, and happiness for the most part as the crew feels like a big ole family aboard this boat.
However it has it dark secrets as well and it will be a matter of what love can entail and endure if our hero and heroine can find there way through messy scandal that was on this boot that only one lady cares about and causes many problems for the person who is an innocent in it all.
I received an ARC from the author but this is my honest opinion that I was not forced to give. I loved this story and I want others to discover it and find how delightful this author is to read.
I loved this sweet historical romance between Andrew and Rosemary. Andrew is the new cargo manager on the Siren and Rosemary works in the kitchen. Loved how all the crew on the Siren are one big family and how great the captain treated them all. This is a well written story that pulled at my heartstrings and the ending was perfect.
The Sailor & The Diren ( Sailor & Saints Book 2) by Reina Torres is a wonderful story of two people who come from different worlds but share the love of two things…music and the sea. Andrew Brooks was just a child when he was taken unwillingly on to a ship. Music was what saved him. Rosemary Tillman, a people young woman works on the riverboat as kitchen help. She loves to sing and listen to music and looking at the sea. Can love be in the card for these two people, or even with them having the love of music and the sea, are there differences too much and will keep them apart. Another great story Reina Torres. It doesn’t matter what genre she is writing she always keeps you turning the pages to see how it all going to turn out.
This book has more meaning and feeling than I had anticipated so I was surprised to read long into the night and not put the book down. The way this story is written, a reader “feels” the undertones of racial bias, as well as, the absolute love by Andrew for the wonderful kitchen help he knew as Rosemary. He was shanghaied off the wharf as a small boy, enslaved for much of his life, learned unbelievable talents that saved his life, and, saw no color, nationality or nobility of any man or woman. I absolutely loved this story-line and will long remember Andrew’s goodness for everyone.
This is a sweetly thrilling and emotional adventure for tow wondering souls just longing for a place to call their own and finding that place is with each other…. loved the passion and romantic drama as well as the heartwarming moments. Great reading!
Rosemary Tillman’s story is a surprise at every turn. Just when I thought I had her story figured out, a new detail would emerge, throwing me off track. I absolutely enjoyed every moment of this story and hoped that she would find her HEA with Andrew, living the life they both deserve.
New friendships and secrets revealed
Set in the late 1800’s this sweet, historical romance has a cast of wonderful characters who truly are family to one another. The two main characters see the future in each other but there are setbacks due to long held secrets. A short read that leaves you content with the HEA.
This is a sweet story it’s the love story between Andrew and Rosemary and finding the real truth of Rosemary’s birth and who her mother was. I liked that it took place on a river boat and we got to know the crew and how they were one big family (except the captains wife) . I also like how the author showed us what life was like in the 1800’s .
A Romantic Trip Back in Time!
The Sailor and the Siren, book two in Reina Torres’ Sailors and Saints series, allows us to step back into a world that was as harsh as it was romantic.
Finding their way on a steamship traveling the Mississippi, Andrew and Rosemary meet. As each must overcome their past experiences, their attraction to each other grows stronger.
This sweet story provides the reader with the chance to watch love unfurl and dreams to happen to two very deserving people.
I really enjoy the historical stories by Ms. Torres. She takes you to a world you’ve never visited and let’s you experience happenings and falling in love in that time and place. This is a sweet, short book that is easy to read and easy to fall in love with. The characters (good and mean) are great and believable, the story is fast paced and the HEA satisfying!
This is an old-fashioned, sweet story…the epitome of HEA. It’s a short story about how things were back in the late 1800s. Finding love and maintaining perfect togetherness was the basis in this story. Really good character building in a short story. Another good job, Reina.
This book was gifted to me by the author in return for an honest review.
Aww what a wonderfully sweet story that will tug at all your heartstrings. I really enjoyed the love story between Andrew and Rosemary. This historical romance was filled with lots of emotional moments that I really loved. From sad to happy moments and everything in between. It also had a unique setting, all taking place on a river boat cruise. How fun is that? A very enjoyable story that will make you feel like you’re right there on the river boat and a part of this wonderful family who worked hard and loved harder. Such a happy sigh worthy story.
