The Perfect Sequel to CHASING CAITLYN
We met the jaded wife in book one. Now, we are meeting the mistress.
FORGIVING GINGER is as intense as its predecessor and just as provoking. Just as Caitlyn was searching for herself, Ginger is trying to forgive herself for missteps she has made.
Something I love about Marnie Cate is that she writes in a way that help you see the core of a character. She wants us to understand how a person would accept being in the positions Ginger finds herself. In doing so, you gain a deeper understanding and connection to the story, as well as the protagonist.
This is a work in WOMENS FICTION, but it’s definitely an enjoyable read for any gender. Though it can be considered a Contemporary Romance, this book is not romantic. It is powerful, emotional, and honest. Despite the darkness and intensity in the tale, this is an entertaining read that will captivate you from the beginning to the end!
Forgiving Ginger is part of The Broken Girl Trilogy. Having read and enjoyed the first book Chasing Caitlyn, I moved onto this second book, Forgiving Ginger.
I was surprised to find I knew the main character, she was a minor character from the first book. It was interesting getting to know Ginger when we met her in the first book. I had no idea she would turn up again and didn’t pay much attention to her.
Now she had my full attention, and I grew fond of her. Losing her parent’s disastrously and suddenly thrown into the care system, Ginger’s story begins. She is soon fostered by the strangely named Mrs. Brick, who at first seems okay before we find out she isn’t. Luckily, Ginger knows how to mostly keep on her good side. Her fortune soon changes when Mrs. Brick brings home a man, who she eventually marries. It seemed a little odd that a nice man like him wasn’t able to see the true nature of his bride.
It’s only when his son, Ben, arrives he is the one to notice how cruel Mrs. Brick is. Ben is a lovely character and soon comes to adore Ginger. As they were falling in love, I’m thinking, no, no, no, you can’t, but then they did. It took a while to realise it was ok, and of course, they weren’t actually related after all!
Eventually, Ginger moves on and meets a truck driver who she hangs around with for a while. He is another nice character and also a lot older than Ginger. Their relationship was intriguing. For some reason I saw actor Sam Elliott, perhaps it was the name.
Ginger moves on again and crosses paths with Caitlyn. It was good seeing this exchange from a fresh perspective. What comes next, I assumed, was the rounding off the book, and it made me a little disappointed. I didn’t want what happened to happen. It didn’t sit right and was kind of sad. But it wasn’t the end! No, the author had yet another surprise in store!
I love happy, rounded, and hopeful endings. This was all of that and more. I loved the way it finished. It made the entire book worthwhile and gave me a good feeling.
Another excellent read from Marnie Cate. A full five stars!
