Good, Clean Reads about Trusting …. Again
An old saying: Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me.
Oh how untrue that is. In this series we see where words not only hurt, but bring about extreme change for our lead characters. Book one focuses on Joy and Mark. Here we see how an unharnessed mouth spews out such pain that disbelief, consternation and doubt not only are felt but acted upon. We see the struggle to live a life of joy and success, take on a downhill fall. We see a confident, happy woman become isolated, doubting her talent and value. We meet Joy…. who can’t live up to the meaning of her name once Mark’s word vomit spews out. Joy is devastated. The man she loves destroys her. The road to redemption isn’t easy…. ask Mark. Once realization hits him, once he finally knows what he’s done, can he make a wrong, right?
We meet Samantha (Sam) in book one. She’s Joy’s best friend and to me, was the ‘hero’. She was the one who got Joy to live again. Often she ‘leaps’ before she thinks but somehow ends up standing 🙂 In book two, Sam is featured. She fell for Paul, Joy’s reclusive brother, years ago. They shared a kiss and it was all over for Sam. She was hooked. But Paul pulls away. When Graham enters Sam’s world, Paul sees what he did. He has a choice to make…. and even if he makes the ‘right’ choice, is it too late? After all, Graham now is involved in Sam’s life.
The complete series is interrelated and interconnected. Falworth is the fictional small town that is all about second chances. It’s so easy to feel the pain of those who have been harmed. Sometimes it will seem ‘injustice’ reigns, but the road to redemption is there too. It all depends upon choices made…. choices that have consequences, both good and bad. It all depends upon the willingness to forgive… and it’s so much easier to forgive than to forget. Prices will be paid.

These were sweet short reads that were about second chances of finding love. They were clean reads with HEA’s.

All four books take place in the fictional small town of Falworth. The first three books were second chances at romance with the characters although the prior romance was brief with books two and three and book four involved a second chance at life after she was accused of being an accomplice in some thefts. In the first book Mark was immature and selfish insulting Samantha’s art work and pushing her away so he could leave find success somewhere else only to realize how special she was. When they’re both back in town to start over, he has to earn her trust and heart back and help her see that her art work is good. In the second book, Joy has a history with Samantha’s brother Paul. They were friends that almost became something more until he pushed her away. He doesn’t realize what he could have had until he sees her with someone else. In the third book, Paul’s employee Amy was attracted to the local handyman James, but they went on a disastrous date and ended up dating other people. Amy’s current boyfriend is selfish and manipulative even going so far as to try to ruin James to get what he wants. In book four, Sophia is starting over in her aunt’s home town after being accused of being an accomplice to thefts at the store she works at because of her past history with her criminal brother. When there are break-ins at the library she’s working at, local police officer Chris investigates and because of her past she becomes a suspect even after she is attacked during a crime. It takes both of their deductive reasoning skills to solve the case. These romances were all clean with some drama and humor.
A beautiful book set of Second Chance stories that will kept entrinment you until the end.
I liked the characters, their stories and hopes/troubles/mix of feeling. These are the story of their journey towards the happiness.
A bookset for all that love sweet romance.

A great set of stories. About second chance love and the road to it. The characters and the stories held my attention from the beginning. Really refreshing to have 4 interlocking clean romances. Gives you a chance to look at the romances from a different way. I recommend them. I voluntarily review a copy for booksprout.
Interrelated Second Chances Lack Backstory
This is a collection of four interrelated clean, contemporary romances set in the small town of Falworth. To me, the stories lacked a certain emotional honesty that we expect in romance. These are all second chances at romance, so the reasons for the couples to part need to be solid. At least in the first two novellas, the backstories of the romances didn’t seem realistic, putting both stories on shaky ground. In the first, Mark decided that he was more interested in pursuing his own wants and needs, and instead of just moving on, he insults the heroines art, which ends up having a ripple effect in her life, first causing her to doubt her abilities and then to stop believing in herself in a broader sense. When they meet again and have to work together some years later, he is contrite, but much has changed about her. In the second story, it might be a stretch even to call it a second chance at romance because they never really had a romance. The couple shared a kiss in the past after which the hero became distant because he was unsure if he wanted their relationship to move forward. Second chance? This one never had a first.
While the story is set in the mythical town of Falworth, it’s not really made plain where exactly this is. All the stories refer to “a city” but don’t say where this city is. From some of the speech patterns and vocabulary, these stories seem to be set in some part of the American South, but then other words creep in that are more used in Britain. I found this lack of a real sense of place to be off-putting.
The book had some of the common issues with punctuation, grammar, and usage, but this didn’t distract from reading as much as the stories did themselves.
I did receive a free advance copy, but this did not affect my review.
A great set of books about finding happiness and love when given a second chance. I found all the stories and characters interesting. The books held my interest from the beginning.

*** Reviewing BROKEN DREAMS – BOOK 1 ***
Joy Pearson had spent the last few years trying to make a living and a name for herself as an artist. Unfortunately, working in the coffee shop helped make ends meet but did nothing to further her dream. So she was giving up and moving back to the town she had never wanted to see again. Her brother and she co-owned a small currently-vacant rental property and she was able to move in for free, at least until her situation stabilized.
Joy’s friend, Samantha, knocked on her bedroom door at 7 a.m., offering a cup of coffee. Sam had made an appointment for her to meet someone an hour from then and mentioned going along to co-sign the lease. What was she talking about? As they ate breakfast, Sam pushed gently at her friend to talk about what was wrong. Joy finally told her that her ex-boyfriend, Mark Roberts, before he left for a new job in the city, had told her no one wanted her art and she should give it up. Apparently she totally believed him and had put her art supplies away in the closet since her return home. She had no more passion for art. Instead of agreeing with that, Sam urged her to have a small exhibition here since the town had never even seen her art creations. She refused to even try to win them over. In fact, she wasn’t ready to hear that Sam had set up the meeting with Mr. Hunter because he had wanted someone to take over the coffee shop — and Sam had told him that Joy would do it!
Much to her surprise, as Joy looked around the rugged, worn out look of the coffee shop, peeling paint and horrible pictures to hide the bad walls, her artist’s imagination started to see possibilities and how she would improve the place to draw people in. Sam, too, was looking for a way to start over and eagerly waited for Joy’s decision. She would be her partner in this, if Joy would give it a chance? To her delight, Joy came alive again at the possibilities – a sense of purpose completely changed her, as happiness bubbled up inside! This new start just might work out!
Sitting on a bench outside the coffee shop while Mr. Hunter was showing Sam how to make his special coffee, Joy heard a familiar voice that made her stop breathing! Mark stood before her and told her they had lots to catch up on! Anger hot under the surface, Joy told him they had nothing to talk about and she walked inside, slamming the door behind her. Would she be able to avoid Mark since he has now moved home too? Would she and Sam continue with plans on the coffee shop? Or would Mark’s lack of confidence in her abilities so long ago again erode her own confidence in herself? Where would the future lead her?
This was a well-written story that moved at a leisurely pace. Samantha was the “star” in my opinion, never giving up on her friend and encouraging her every step of the way. It felt good to see such a friendship that Joy evidently needed to regain her motivation and self-confidence. Would Mark make up for his devastating treatment of her when he had first left town? Grab your copy of the book and see where this new venture is leading! And there are more in this collection to keep you reading!
Emma Evans has written a set of books that are clean and filled with mystery and romance. The first story, Broken Dreams, is about Joy. Joy is an artist, who has to return home to stay because she felt she didn’t make it in the big city. She also has to come face to face with her former lover. She overcomes tons of sadness to find her joy.
The second story, A Kiss to Forget, is about Samantha and Paul. Le sigh, I love them!
The third story, Love’s Choice, is about Amy. Amy’s story is my personal favorite. It is a story about a woman finding her worth and without other people’s input. She does it all on her own. I love it!
The last story, Whispered Secrets, is about Chris and Sophia. It has some mystery and it’s interesting to see the dynamic that the author has building up the story of what happened in Sophia’s past. I guessed who I thought was the master mind and I was right! This was a good story and I liked the characters.
Emma Evans always does a fantastic job with her writing. I enjoy her characters and the stories she tells. You will NOT regret purchasing this book!

Can they reconcile?
This was a lovely story about second chances and redemption with Mark and Joy as our feature characters. I loved Sam she is such a great friend to Joy. Coming home was so hard for Joy an artist that gave up because of Marks words many years before. Now Mark is back in her life will they find a way to forgive and forget? Can Joy find the love of art she has lost? Great characters and a wonderful plot made this charmer a heartwarming read. I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Four well-written stories in one place the boxed set is one I would recommend. The stories in this set are Broken Dreams which is Joy and Mark’s story, A Kiss to Forget Samantha and Paul’s story, Love’s Choice Amy and James’ story, and Whispered Secrets Chris and Sophia’s story each story has its own merits. In a way, the stories are linked. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
