Losing two roommates within a year isn’t exactly what Lexi Murray had in mind. While her friends are finding their happily ever afters, she feels stuck watching on the side lines. Not being able to afford a condo alone in Baltimore on a teacher’s salary, Lexi is on the hunt for her next roommate. Little did she expect for the vacancy to be filled by the shortstop for the Baltimore Blue Birds.… Birds.
Single father and professional baseball player Jace Jackson only has room in his heart for one girl; his fourteen year old daughter. He has decided to sacrifice his dating life to dedicate his non-baseball time to his child only. It has been easy, that is until he agrees to be a gorgeous woman’s roommate, against better judgement.
Lexi and Jace both know sharing a condo will come with its challenges, one of which is their extreme attraction to one another. Since both aren’t looking for love, they agree on one rule:
Sex. No feelings. Just fun.
Something so simple shouldn’t be so difficult.

This is the third book in the Fangirl series, the book I have been waiting for and it was sooo worth the wait! We have seen Lexi in the two first books and got a little bit of her story. It all started with a bet, Lexi wasn’t going to cave and let Jace win, no matter how bad she wanted to. When Lexi ends up forgoing the bet and giving them both what they really want, it’s with the agreement that this is just a sex thing, no feelings. The more time the two spend together, the more things feel natural between them. But will Lexi take a chance on the feelings that they are developing or will she cut Jace loose to spare herself the hurt?
I think this is the end of the series, and I really hope its not! I loved this series and Playing the Shortstop was just as great as the first two books. With laughs, drama, some quirky moments and some really hot naughty bits, I loved how this wrapped everything up. I give this 5 stars.
What a fantastic ending to the Fan Girl series! Absolutely loved the firecracker that is Lexi and the swoon worthy that is Jace together they are smoking hot, but these two have that connection that goes deeper than just behind closed doors! Perfect epilogue 5yrs on and we get what’s happened with everyone’s lives, especially Lexi and Jace’s!
Ahhhh! I didn’t think I could love anyone more than Sammie & Ryan, and I was right, but Lexi & Jace came seriously close. Their story starts out w/ them trying to be just roommies w/ benefits. But they both have hearts of gold that are very open & loving, so it doesn’t take long for feelings to be involved. The story flew by, because it was such a fun read! Lexi has so much personality!!
And I love Jace’s daughter, Addy. She’s a teenager, written very well, and is instrumental in helping get these two together.
AND!!! The epilogue! Lexi reflecting on how this all started w/ Mel getting hit in the face by a baseball – LOVED IT!!! I highly recommend reading this series. It is now one of my favorites. : )
A sweet and sporty romance that swings for the fences. Jace is a professional baseball player looking for a place to live during the season and Lexi happens to have a spare room. Neither are looking for more so what happens next is beyond their expectations. I loved how the characters share an emotional depth while providing entertainment with their banter and behavior. It is a perfect series to read just in time for the start of baseball season. A must for those who love romance, baseball and characters who are easy to fall in love with.
This last book in the Fangirl series ends this on a championship win. Playing The Shortstop is what I feel is the most heartfelt and emotional of them all. It made me laugh, cry and at times frustrated me. Jace and Lexi are characters that have an instant attraction and chemistry that you can feel. Two people who are caught between a rock and a hard place who try to keep their relationship at a level with no feelings involved. As these two navigate between old wounds and family commitments it might just take a push from a young girl to get these two to finally fight for what they want. So sad that this series has finally come to an end and I will miss these characters like crazy, but I am also left with a full heart and a huge smile on my face.
