What a delightful story! Dayna Quince has created a wonderful series about nine sisters who have no dowry and could only hope to find a husband. Can you imagine having nine sisters? Personally I think it would be amazing but in this case they really are all different and have a challenge ahead. This is the tale of Georgie, the daughter who had to become adept at everything a man would. Hunting to put food on the table, keeping up the place and doing all necessary that their father should do if he were around.
Selbourne Castle was hosting a two week house party and Lord Roderick had invited a lot of eligible men on the premise of hunting. But really it was to introduce the Marsden sisters in the hope they would find a gentleman and receive a proposal. When Georgie meets one of those men, Gavin, he is so handsome she just about swoons! He is a merchant who has no desire to marry and as they got to know each other, he bluntly told her so.
This was such a fun, humorous at times tale that had me laughing out loud but pulling for these two to get together. There were also some strong emotions and unexpected feelings that cannot be stopped. Don’t miss this third book in this series and although it can be read as a standalone, I know you will want to read them all!!

I loved that Georgie rescued wild animals, although carrying around a baby weasel in her dress was a bit extreme. Gavin Cage didn’t know what to make of her, but she made him want to change and be a better man, who cared less about money and more about spending time with those he loved. His relationship with Georgie was not smooth and there were a lot of misunderstandings on the path to true love. The Marsden sisters continue to cause trouble, but one by one they are finding their happily ever after in this series. I wonder if Lord Luckfeld will follow through on forcing Georgie to make good on her bet with him or if he’ll be too focused on her sister to care.

Selbourne Castle was hosting a two-week House Party. Lord Roderick Andrews had invited the men to hunt and get away from town to relax, but actually the party was to introduce the Marsden daughters in the hope they would meet a gentleman and receive a marriage proposal. He knew the men wouldn’t come if they knew the real reason – most were afraid of marriage! He invited these men because they didn’t need a wealthy wife and could marry for love. Georgie was one of the nine sisters and, without a brother to inherit her father’s estate, poor though it was, she and her sisters needed to marry for their protection. Their father was not yet at the castle and, if he did not appear, Georgie would miss the party because she would be left with all the chores and the care of their animals.
As Georgie made a teasing remark to her sister Bernie about having to auction off a man so they could marry him, their neighbor, Chester, made an exasperated sound behind them. He had a gorgeous gentleman beside him and introduced Bernie and Georgie to Mr. Gavin Cage. The man was so handsome he took Georgie’s breath away! In conversation, she told him she was an expert shot and kept the larder full of meat for the family. Such manly pursuits left him speechless and he left to track down his valet, he said, disappearing until dinner. Things were not off to a good start apparently. Georgie was the one had stepped into the male role for her father who was often away. She cared for their farm, making repairs, hunting, shooting, feeding the livestock. More ladylike attributes were lost on her as she did what she had to do for the survival of her family. This party was for her sisters; she herself was not suitable for marriage.
In the barn at Selbourne Castle, she was keeping small animals she was treating for their injuries. A baby weasel had been abandoned and was not thriving. As she fed Kit, she told him of the man she had seen and how she felt about him. Then she stood up, turned around, and found herself looking into his eyes! Strangely, he brought back all the femininity she thought she had lost. He made her feel things she couldn’t identify. Was this desire? As he escorted her back to the castle, he told her that, to be honest, he would not be marrying her or anyone else. He enjoyed bachelorhood. She walked off, leaving him sputtering when she apologized for unsettling his “fragile sensibilities”. He had never met anyone like her!
One of the other men talking to Gavin at breakfast had suggested perhaps the oddly behaving Georgie might be attracted to women? That thought made it easier for Gavin to control himself. Yet his mind and attention still remained on her. Avoiding her hadn’t worked. Perhaps he should become her friend instead? How would that work out?
This was an absolutely wonderful story! There was so much humor that kept me laughing all the way through. The story line was beautiful, watching an experienced man fall apart with the strong, intelligent, independent woman who needed no one to lean on, despite her innocence. Neither one was experienced enough to identify love for each other. Would they find the path that put them where they ought to be? Don’t miss this book – it’s one of the very best I’ve read and you will enjoy every page!
Georgette, more commonly known as Georgie, is one of nine sisters who are the surprise at a country hunting party for London gentleman. The men thought they were coming just for a hunt, but perhaps they are the hunted! Georgette is an unusual female for her times. She has taken over many of the tasks that would have fallen to her father if he were as involved in their family life as he should be. She is well-versed in animal husbandry, shooting, ride, and other more masculine pursuits. She figures no man at this party would be interested in the woman like her.
When she meets Gavin Cage, however, they both feel an immediate attraction, though she believes she has put him off with some of her unladylike words. They continue a verbal dance until they both choose to participate in an affair with no expectation to have anything more beyond the time limit to the hunting party.
Will they follow through with the affair? Will they be found out? Will they be able to keep their hearts from being engaged?
I quite enjoyed the verbal sparring between Georgie and Mr. Cage. How often he unintentionally insulted her! I can understand his attraction to her because she is definitely not like any woman of the ton he has met. I loved the bit about the weasel! What an interesting breakfast companion! There was a bit of a running gag, too, where Mr. Cage wasn’t sure of her sexual preference. Having sisters myself, I enjoyed the interactions between the sisters. I particularly loved Bernie as she was so supportive of Georgie at the beginning.
The book had more than the typical amount of errors in grammar, punctuation, and usage. There were particular problems with commas and occasionally missing words.
Note: The book does contain explicit scenes that describe sexual acts in some detail.
This is a most enjoyable read. We meet the nine Marsden sisters and most specifically Georgie as she falls in love with the gorgeous rake, Gavin Cage. Georgie is the most unconventional of the sisters, with her love and care of animals, wounded wild ones as well as the ones on her family farm. Her pet baby weasel, Kit, was an endearing addition to the story. Dayna did such a beautiful job of developing the characters and taking us on the journey of Georgie and Gavin’s progressing relationship. Their dialogue and banter was cleaver and sweet. I came to really care about these people and look forward to reading about the rest of her sisters’ stories.

I love The Northumberland Nine series. The Marsden sisters are fun, amazing, have wonderful personalities and are as different as day is to night. This is Georgette (Georgie) Marsden’s story. She is a unique individual. She has had to take on the role of brother and father for her family to survive. She did all the manual labor, took care of the animals, did the farming and even worked on repairing their home. She is strong, confident, courageous and resilient. Gavin Cage is a known rake. He is charming, handsome with a touch of danger surrounding him. He is also kind, considerate, gentle and sometimes too serious. He is a wealthy merchant but fears marriage. He does not want to turn into his father who did not value family before the pursuit of wealth. Georgie and Gavin are attracted to each other. Georgie feels she will never be accepted as she is because of the manly ways she has had to live her life. So, she declares never to marry. Gavin feels the same. Georgie decides to experience pleasure without marriage and she wants that with Gavin. The embark on an affair. Gavin teaches Georgie pleasure without breaching her maidenhead. Georgie is a willing student and a natural. She finds she cannot separate pleasure and love. She has unrequited love and does not know what to do. Gavin starts to be afraid. He is having feelings he has never had before. He does not know if he is in love. He does not know how to love. The only person he loves is his mother and his feelings for Georgie are different than that. I loved reading this story. It is fun, entertaining and full of deep emotion. I look forward to the next book and I do recommend this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I read One Wild Dawn and so loved it that when I saw this one on Booksprout’s site I knew I could not pass it up. Georgie one of the Marsden sisters is smitten by Gavin Cage what is going to happen now that they are at the same house party? She and her sisters are attending a 2 weeks long party in their honor, in the hopes of finding husbands. Gavin no intention of ever marrying is invited to the party. I loved the characters very well developed it made the story more engaging. This is a book I would recommend hope you pick up a copy it is so worth it! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Infamous for nothing more than being one of nine impoverished sisters, Georgie knows her future prospects are even more dim than those of her other sisters. She’s had to become the son her mostly absent father never had and take responsibility for the family’s animals and their general well-being. As such she knows she has to rely on one of her more conventional sisters to marry a decent husband and take her in before their odious cousin inherits and turns them out upon their father’s death.
Wealthy businessman Gavin Cage agreed to attend the two week house party at Selbourne Castle to escape London and his mother’s matchmaking machinations. Needless to say, he’s not thrilled to find the castle full of lovely, unmarried women.
Gavin finds himself unwittingly drawn to Georgie in particular and the two strike up a friendship. But neither can ignore the burning attraction between them and Georgie asks Gavin to help her explore the passion she knows she’ll never experience otherwise. As an experienced rake, he can ensure they don’t get caught and cause a scandal, except maybe he wouldn’t mind being caught.
I loved these two as a couple but I began to lose my patience with them just a bit toward the end. Georgie kept getting mad at Gavin for not saying things that he’d actually already said, which was annoying, but the got it together eventually and I enjoyed it, especially our unconventional heroine.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am soooo loving this series!! Book 3 of the Northumberland Nine series is Georgette and Gavin’s story and what a story it is! Georgette “Georgie” is the third oldest daughter in a family of 9 daughters and she considers herself “different” because she’s more the “son” of the family, doing the hunting, taking care of the animals, etc. She and her sisters are attending a 2 weeks long party in their honour, in the hopes of finding a husband. Invited as well is Gavin Cage, a well known rake who has no intention of ever marrying.
Despite being nothing like the type of woman he likes to keep company with, Gavin finds himself deeply attracted to Georgie and vice versa. They decide to be just friends but that doesn’t last very long! lol I absolutely adore the humour in this story, especially the scenes involving “Kit”, the weasel!! A very well written story and deserving a 5 star rating. Now I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!!!

Georgie is one of the nine Marsden sisters. She’s the tomboy who can hunt and shoot and keeps them feed with game.
She meets Mr. Cage a second time at the house party and she’s smitten.
Gavin Cage is a rake. He’s from the merchant class and is in manufacturing. He enjoys women. A lot.
When he seduces Georgie they are in a precarious position and his proposal lacks emotion because he tells her his business comes first.
Can he convince her feelings might just be involved?
