Fate had done wrong to Mercy and General Edmund Bradley. They had lost and not by their fault and now had to struggle with fatality to have a semblance of being whole. Liked the tenacity of the general, the entertaining narrations and descriptions, the witty secondary characters, the intriguing plan and the outcome of the action. Suspense, secrets, mystery, adventure, unexpected twists, unity and love.
I felt that she realistically would have a “slower” time accepting male relationships. Not impossible, but just got together slowest
Typical, nothing out of the ordinary. If you want something to read that isn’t challenging.
Despite the dark undertones of this novel, this is actually a very sweet romance, one that will bring hope to others that have been through Mercy’s experience. Mercy runs very true to form for one type of reaction to her past. Most people act out in one way or another, but one general factor is that victims often don’t realise just how seriously they have been damaged. Mercy’s ability to compartmentalise her thoughts and feelings is also typical. Meeting General Bradley brings fresh hope and new beginnings for both Mercy and Edmund as she attempts to find ways in which to help him achieve his goals. When the truth eventually comes out, the extent of Edmund’s feelings for Mercy come to the fore. Although this book is part of a series and characters from previous novels appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a happy and successful close. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Unusual subject matter and attractive characters but writing needs work. For example, there were too many anachronistic expressions for the time period (e.g. sending mixed messages).
I really enjoyed this story of two damaged people who are struggling to heal. They wind up helping each other. It is a very touching love story. I would recommend it.
Nice clean romance.
