I have a crush on my new neighbor. The one that everyone hates.I know all the rumors in the neighborhood. Andrew Mason is rich. He’s gorgeous. He’s a recluse. He’s a genius. He’s a jerk. The sign he puts on his porch on Halloween makes all of the kids cry.Oh, and a car crash seven years ago left him in a wheelchair. He seems to think that’s going to put me off.I’m determined to get his attention, … determined to get his attention, though he doesn’t want company. I can’t help it. I want to know what makes a man so beautiful and so complicated tick. I want to know what goes on in his brilliant, good-looking head. I want to know if his muscles feel as awesome as they look. I want to break down his defenses.
But if I can break down Andrew’s defenses, then he can break down mine. What starts out as a battle of wits becomes… something more. Something hotter. Something neither of us expected.
When two damaged people crash into each other, they either destroy each other… or they fall in love.

Andrew is a rudely lovable Grumpy Gus and the older, snarky, intelligent, and paralyzed brother of Nick from Spite Club that I’ve been hoping would find a bit of happy. I must say, Tessa is a perfect match. These two were definitely two peas in a pod with their sarcastic humor, sharp quips, and sly banter that had me smiling like a loon…I think I fell in love with Tessa before it could even be an idea for Andrew!
I was thrilled when I discovered Andrew was getting his own story! If any character ever deserved a confetti party of happy, it would have to be Andrew. Julie Kriss delivered a powerful tale of loneliness, love, forgiveness, and learning to embrace the beauty of being different regardless of what form it presents in.
*A potential touchy topic-previous suicide attempts are discussed by both characters*
Very well done. I didn’t feel sorry for Andrew, nor did I feel that he was a big jerk, Like I had in the first book. They balanced out each other and I loved it.
Andrew, older brother of Nick, was in a car accident and is paralyzed and in a wheelchair. No worries, his “equipment” is working just fine; he just hasn’t found anyone he wants enough to try. With all his money, Andrew is content with creating comics with his brother, and having his caregivers come to him at home. He’s rude to his neighbors, and even meaner to their children.
Tessa, just moving across the street in the house her grandmother left to her. When she hears about her mysterious neighbor, she’s intrigued and anxious to meet him. Tessa attempts to introduce herself to her new neighbor, but he’s having none of that. Until she wears him down, and reluctantly, they become friends. Both broken from past experiences, Andrew and Tessa are kindred spirits, soon both have to confront their burgeoning and surprisingly strong feelings toward one another. This was a really good story, and I really enjoyed the audiobook.
The narration by Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb is great.
It was lovely to read how Andrew starts to open up and give himself a chance to begin living life. Tessa has her own emotional issues but together they are the best support for each other. I finished this story with a very happy smile.
Okay, so I’m mad that it took me THIS long to read any of Julie Kriss’s work. I LOVED this story. Andrew and Tessa pulled at heartstrings I didn’t know I had, and hearing about each of their broken journeys touched a soft spot in my sometimes-Tinman heart.
Andrew was ever the hot, grumpy and, unfortunately, paralyzed hero with a chip on his shoulder a mile wide until Tessa moves across the street and fills it with her equal sass, humor and heart. I loved how they complemented each other, how fun their banter was and how hot things got between them to sweeten their connection.
I loved it all. If I could get more Andrew, I would. I see myself coming back to this book more than once I loved it so much. Now officially a big fan of Julie’s! Loved every second.
I downloaded this book two weeks ago and I’ve already read it four times. It’s just that good. It’s heartwarming, funny, multifaceted, and even a little educational. If you like damaged heroes and equally screwed up heroines, this is your book.
I love Andrew and Tessa the perfectly imperfect pair!
A Fast-paced storyline with tension, tenderness, sarcasm, and gruffness galore between two neighbors…
Their crash course in patching up the torn apart pieces of their lives ends up entwining them in a sensually frustrated dance of love, happiness, and romance!
Love the realism mixed with fictional bliss, how Andrew’s disability was not written as a ” fluff ” piece, and I felt a wide range of emotions while reading their story all in one sitting!
Well Worth The Read!!
