Tomb Raider meets urban fantasy in a new, spine-tingling adventure…Meet Nia Rivers: archaeologist, fashionista, and an ancient immortal with a serious memory problem. For the last couple of centuries, Nia has been trying to fill in the blanks of her past by shedding light on history’s darkest stories. Her motto: the ugliest stories are the ones that deserve to be told the most. But when a … the most.
But when a mysterious woman comes forth with a two-thousand year old relic from Nia’s past, Nia isn’t sure if the story connected to it is one she wants told to the world. Unfortunately, Nia has no choice but to uncover the truth—fast—before a greedy land developer buries the site forever. The fact that he’s also an immortal, with a millennia-old grudge against her, doesn’t help. Neither do the dark assassins who have been stalking her for centuries, and who’ve suddenly decided to up their game to end her life.
Letting her enemies have their way might be best for Nia, especially when the truth might expose a horrific crime from Nia’s past. But all stories deserve to be told.
Even the ugliest ones.
Even if they say you might be a mass murderer.

Our heroine is immortal, so she has a real appreciation for history. She actually participated in a lot of it. But living a long time means there are a lot of buried secrets and some are meant to stay that way.
This is book one of the series.
This is a paranormal action adventure story with a lot of things going on. First, the story is well written and easy to read, but complex at the same time. There are a lot of things going on, a lot of history and plenty of action. All of that will keep you on our toes and flipping pages. The characters are also well developed, particularly our heroine. I really like her as she is tough and smart, certainly not afraid to get her hands dirty. The plot is fast paced and full of surprises, so you never quite know what is going to be around the next corner. Overall, a fast paced and highly enjoyable story. I need book two now.
Highly recommended.

Laura Croft meets Myths
Ms. Johnson has created a novel and fantastical world from which springs this terrific book. The main character, Nia, is alternatively kick-butt and vulnerable, but it’s the two complicated lead makes, Zane and Tres, that steal the show. And who could forget Lauren!? Filled with action and richly described settings, this merger between archeology and mythology come to life is a sure fire success. I highly recommend you read this book!
If you love history and mystery you will love this book. This was a very intriguing complex mystery. Nia is an immortal in love with another immortal but they can’t be together for long or they are weakened. She authenticates archeological sites and artifacts, and now she has to go to China. A place that she fears and has had nightmares about for hundreds of years. But she wants to finally know the truth about what happened there a milennia ago. She fears she did something awful and that is why a secret Ninja society has been targeting her. Is she on the path to the truth or will she sacrificed? Because this society of Ninjas has some kind of supernatural powers because they can kill her. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
I am reeling from this story. I was swept up from the beginning, and it has not let go. I am dying to read book 2.
Think Tomb Raider crossed with the Will Smith movie “Hancock.”
What if you had nightmares that could be memories? Would you want to know the truth or bury it as deep as you can? How do you deal with forgetting people who were important to you?
There is so much this book offers. The rabbit hole is deep on this one. We get resolution of the initial problem, but there is so much left to learn. I am so excited to know there is more to adventures come for Nia.

It is just so interesting to consider immortals living among us. I really liked this aspect of the story blended with the search for archaeological artifacts in China. Nia and Loren were such different women with very different personalities that they worked well together. I was really interested in the “spotty” memories that Nia had from her past as well as those with Tres and Zane. I am still wondering about the history behind those three- and why Nia was missing memories the others retained. I loved the use of myths and ancient practice lore that was used to provide some historical context. A satisfying ending to the archaeological search with some uncertainties in the relationship area. Looking forward to the next search Nia and Loren were discussing.

This story starts with an archaeologist looking for her past, evil people trying to get her, a woman needing her help to exonerate her father, and a near death experience plus so much more in this captivating story

Nia Rivers is a many millennia old Immortal set on telling the stories of the past, no matter how ugly, if only she could remember them! In the beginning there were 12 Immortals, of which Nia is the 9th. We learn about 6 of them in this book and I am intrigued! This is a wonderfully refreshing spin on history. It was very long but a page turner for sure. When I couldn’t read it I was thinking about reading it! Very well written, with a narrative this involved I have to say it was excellent at keeping itself straight and consistent. There is a definite girl power, solidarity and friendship vibe. I really like Nia and Loren. The men, Zane and Tres, are incredible and this love triangle adds to the story. Deep rich story, love, adventure, intrigue and ninjas! This book has it all. Looking forward to reading more!

This was a wonderful first book to introduce you to the Nia Rivers series. The world building and characters were so artfully described that it felt that you were right there experiencing the mysteries and trying to remember the past stories along with Nia. I can’t wait to read more adventures in the series to see what story is told next and learn more about the two immortal men in Nia’s life!

This book shows a strong woman that is a cross between Lara Croft and a female Immortal. I loved the entire thing and could not put it down. There is love but also adventure throughout the entire book. I love the take on immortals and gods as well as how they act. I cannot wait to see where the next adventure will take Nia and Loren.

Nia is on an expedition for artifacts, that have her globe trotting around the world. Along the way she battles enemies, and has conflicting feelings for Zane and Tres.

It twists and turns until you are spinning in circles and the ending just keeps you guessing. A bit of Lara Croft and Indiana Jones and a whole lot of intrigue. The bad guys are just trying to keep what they think they have coming, too bad history repeats itself.
Good read. Interesting enough that I bought the next in the series.
I like the idea of this book. Had a very hard time getting into it. I was expected more action.
