Zoey, head for the Sunnyside Home for Elderly Witches is usually busy with her charges, but things get chaotic when an insurance clerk is killed while visiting with some of her charges and one of them is under suspicion of murder. In addition it seems like one of her charges is BLITZING – losing bits of magic that mix with other people’s magic and make spells go crazy – As if that were not enough, trouble with her boyfriend and his suspicious actions keep her on her toes.
An intriguing cozy mystery, funny and sad alternating, with a splash of thrill. A wonderful blend to forget reality and just enjoy the story.

I love this series so far zoey, Howie and the rest of the gang are at it again. Howie is in deep trouble because the insurance company agent is there at the retirement home to see hi m and tell him that he is a liability because of his magic and then the agent ends up dead. Did Howie kill the agent or did someone that was helping kill the agent. Love this book

I love this series! The antics of the residents cracked me up. I love how they are close and take care of each other. The story moved at a good pace and I really enjoyed it.
Things are rarely quiet for long at the Sunnyside Retired Witches Community! Zoey was having a lovely moment a flying kite with her boyfriend when she was called back to the community. Apparently, an insurance agent has been murdered on the premises. That’s not all. Strange magics are occurring, and odd energy blips seem to happen around them. Are the residents of the community involved in the murder? Why do these magic blitzes happen?
I’ve read all the books in this series so far, and they are a delight. The author is able to make the characters seem realistic even though this is a magical setting, and she can inject humor into what could be very serious scenes about the crime. In this book, most of the magic that goes awry is just plain funny (the sweatbands!). I love when I see that a new book in this series pops up because I can’t wait to read it.
Zoey Rivers was on the beach with her boyfriend, Doug. She tried to remember the last time they had a real date – but the 20-minute fast-food break for lunch with Doug was too short to count. When she thought about it, she realized that even though they had been together for six months, they really didn’t know much about each other. As Head of Staff caring for elderly witches at the Sunnyside Retired Witches Community retirement home in Sunnyside, California, Zoey rarely had any time off. As she and Doug were about to walk on the beach, she got a call from Steve Grace, her helper at the retirement home, saying she had to return immediately because something tragic had happened.
They entered the common room and it was filled with people – but everyone was deathly quiet! Steve pointed outside and said Sonja Bennett, the insurance agent for the company that insured most of their residents, was dead! Trudy Douglas, Sonja’s assistant, said they had been telling Howie, a resident who was their self-proclaimed fitness guru, that the company had some concerns about him and may not be able to continue to pay for his housing at the retirement center. They said Howie’s magic was unstable and he could be a liability. Even as he was talking with Sonja and Trudy, sparks and mini explosions were shooting out all over as his excess emotional energy caused his magic to discharge. However, several residents said Howie was nowhere around when Sonja’s body started to fly up into the air and was slammed down on the ground repeatedly, which had caused her death. That would definitely take lots of powerful magic, which most of the residents just didn’t have anymore. Glancing down, Zoey saw Howie’s sweatband sticking out from underneath Sonja’s body!
Suspicion points to one of Zoey’s residents as being the possible murderer. Zoey will need to work quickly to find the real murderer and keep the resident out of jail — or worse! Who would have wanted to cause the death of the insurance agent and for what reason? What is causing the magical blips that discharge uncontrollably? Who is powerful enough to have murdered Sonja?
This was a good cozy mystery that had a great cast of crazy characters, each unique and memorable. The zany goings on make for a busy story line that keeps the reader interested. Knowing each of her residents so well, it was difficult for Zoey to figure out who the murderer could be. Grab your copy and see if you can figure it out before Zoey cracks the case!
Zoey is running a Nursing Home of sorts for elderly magical people. When there is a murder on the back lawn and someones magic seems to be going wonky and might cause harm Zoey must help the local Sheriff to find the murder and discover whose magic is getting the best of them in their old age. They keep finding more and more mysteries to solve and seemingly no answers. This was a quick and absolutely fun read.

Zoey, I expect more of your solving skills, took you a bit. But I will give you a break because Doug is distracting. Just glad you figured it out in the end.
Now it looks like you might have another dilemma in the near future?
Well at least the residents are still very endearing. I hope i am like them when I get there.
Read it in a day. fun, fast easy to read. Even though says book two in series , you can read it and not be lost. Truth be known , it took me a couple of chapters to remember the characters and setting better. Age catching up with us all, lol.
My only problem is that I figured out why I was suspicious of a certain character in the beginning of the book.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Zoey Rivers loves her job caring for elderly witches at the Sunnyside Retirement Home. However one of them is blitzing which is causing magic to act outside of the norm. When a local insurance agent ends up dead while visiting the home, fingers are pointing to one of Zoey’s charges as being the culprit. Zoey needs to stay one step ahead of the law to keep this resident out of jail or sent away to a special facility. Can Zoey figure out who is blitzing and why? Who or what caused the insurance agents death? And what is going on with her boyfriend; he doesn’t seem to be the real estate agent that he says he is.
Read along as Zoey and her wacky cast of elderly witches go from one madcap situation into yet another. With the perfect mix of humor, mystery, and a few red herrings, this book makes for a delightful cozy mystery.

The long-awaited return to the Sunnyside Retirement Witches Community! I’ve been with this series since its beginning. This series is a labor of love – a tightly-knit group of loony people like us. The residents and the staff of Sunnyside Retirement home are just like people we live and work with, but the residents, and the staff are imbued with supernatural powers that mellow with the infirmities of age.
Hilarious situations ensue as they love one another, and all work together to solve yet another mysterious death on the premises.
This is the third book in the series (can’t wait for the fourth!) but there is enough recap to just jump into the story at this point. But I’d highly recommend reading the rest of the works in the series (Ghostly Trails, A Bottle Full of Djinn). They are all delightful.

Zoey enjoys her job as head of staff at the Sunnyside retirement village for witches and others.
She has been dating a fairly irritating individual named Doug for several months and has finally decided he might be more irritating than she thought – or worse. Not sorry if we see the back of him – not a sympathetic type.
Poor Howie has been experiencing some challenges . The fitness driven man does not always know how to tone things down for those residents who are less mobile. A friend trying to help him may be making things worse. Perhaps the efforts of more than one friend make things exciting as per usual at Sunnyside. Flying residents, kitchen equipment, occasional recipe challenges, and various types of mayhem are the norm.
Notions of family and various deceits and loyalties are tested.
A fun combination of mystery, romance and family/friendship.
Great KU read!

This is book 2 (not including the prequel) to the Sunnyside Retired Witches Community Series, but can be read as a stand alone. I have not read the other books in this series, but have already bought the Prequel to get myself caught up with the history of some of Sunnysides residents.
This contains a bit of mystery, mischief, and hints at the possibility of romance. Great story line, humorous and delightful. Awesome characters that are a hoot. Fantastic description to details and entertaining dialogue.
All in all a fantastic read and can not wait for more.
