Breaking the Curse . . .
The tale says Sebastian Collins denied the evil Queen Zorana favors and in retaliation she cursed him with constant pain that worsens until he pleasures a woman as often as she wishes. The curse should have died with the queen but something went wrong and it didn’t.
Snow White’s Rebel Court was called in for an audience, all of them standing to attention, but the Queen wanted to see each one at a time. Unusual, but they sat back down and waited. When it was his turn, Snow told him she didn’t have official crown business to send him on, yet his task might be the most dangerous mission of all. She asked if he would obey, no matter the risk? Since all of her Rebel Court were loyal and trusted her, he said yes. She gave him an envelope with the name “Willow Faithblade” on it. She possessed a unique immunity to the side effects of raw magic, which is what had been used on Sebastian when he was cursed. Willow Faithblade now presented a real chance of lifting Zorana’s curse from Sebastian. The bad part is that after all these years, she may not be aware of her heritage or know how to use it. She was extremely isolated in the ruined castle keep she lived in.
Now Sebastian is being sent on a long journey to the desolate north to see if the woman could remove his curse. This was his final and only chance. But he arrived at the ruined castle in the frozen land and she was not expecting him, thinking he was coming the following week. She knew the date, just hadn’t realized the week had passed her by unnoticed. She was easily distracted and had forgotten to tell Queen Snow she did not have a guest room.
Sebastian was getting very frustrated with this scattered female. He was upset that she had not found a cure for him, to which she only laughed and said she could not cure a curse before she had even seen it. She told him to take the carriage horses to the “summer garden” in this bleak icy wintery land. Yet when he walked them into the walled area, the sun was shining and grass was growing!
They ate dinner and, even with thick glasses and gray hair, he noticed she was very pretty. She was having an effect on him but she didn’t notice. She asked to see where the curse entered him and she “saw” it on his chest. He told her it was a constant ache deep in his bones, then his spine and joints lock up until he loses fine motor function. As she touched his skin, he got goosebumps up his arm. What she found was an amalgamation of raw magic, three soul spells and four blood curses that had survived Zorana’s death. The starburst she saw on his chest was invisible to others because it was within him. She felt it and put her hands on his chest and she felt his terrible pain. She pulled a thin strand of the raw magic out of him and refused to let it enter her, so it dissipated in the air. He described how he felt, so she continued with another. But as he got excited and his heart sped up, the weakened magic formed a ball and she could not remove more. He was amazing to her; life, passion, feeling, all trapped inside a prison of pain. She wanted him to kiss her, but when it seemed he might, she blurted out about their sleeping arrangement. Could she really cure him? He had hope now. And why did he want her so much?
As strange as it is, this story will grow on you. Grab your copy and see if the dreaded curse can be removed from Sebastian. And how will this affect Willow?
It is a short novella but it is certainly a hot one. The way the author draws you into the story and keeps your attention is quite well done. Good characters and a splendid world created.
