Read a long time ago. It was okay.
This was my first G.L. Snodgrass’s book, and won’t be my last. This is the second book in The Stafford Sisters Series, a Regency Romance. I haven’t listened to the first book in the Series yet, but I would love to. Lydia and Aaron’s story is beautiful. The supporting characters are great, and I would love to know more about them. Gray Wolf, Aaron’s friend, is an intriguing character. Diana Lyon did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to Duke in Disguise (Ann and Daniel’s story) and A Very British Lord (Isobel and Lord Brookenham’s story). I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I enjoyed the story line very much.
Very nice to have a novel where there isn’t a character threatening the main characters.
Always a entertaining read, regency Brits and Colonial Americans.
Enjoyed reading. Will read more from this author.
A great series to read.
I really enjoyed reading about these delightful characters going through complex social antics. Recommend highly.
One of my favorites.
Two unlikely lovers- a strong woman and an alpha male find love at a time when women were nothing but possessions.
It was a sweet and clean romantic story.
Great book. I heartily recommend it! Enjoy!
Love this book
predictable, but well done
Aaron Drake had gone to America to free himself from the expectations of the ton and his reprobate father. Having lost his two brothers Aaron is called home by his dying father? What did Aaron discover upon his arrival home? How did the nobility perceive him? Why was Grey Wolf important? Miss Lydia discovered the answers.
Can Lydia soften Aaron’s granite edges?
Shaped and honed by life in the wilds of America, Aaron Drake never thought he would return to England. But even the plans of a third son often are sidetracked by life’s tragedies, and he is duty bound to comply, up to a point.
As a commoner, Miss Lydia Stafford never dreamed she would be dancing at a ball with the elite of London society. Then her sister up and married a duke. Now all eyes are on her as she navigates the treacherous waters of the ton and hopes to make a good matrimonial match.
G.L. Snodgrass is one of my favorite authors. I enjoy her character-driven novels because both leading and supporting characters are usually well developed and interesting.
That said, An American Duke did not quite push me into the “love it” category, but it was engrossing and I did like it. Although the story was a bit predictable, Lydia’s kind and gentle nature kept me glued to my reader. Her moments of doubt were offset by her strong resolve. I also really liked Aaron’s friend Gray Wolf. He spoke seldom, but his insightful wisdom was spot on. On the other hand, Aaron just wasn’t my kind of hero. Granted he was virile and handsome with hard earned granite edges, but there was a side of him that just seemed to be totally missing. He was either too dense or too stubborn to see past his own perceptions. He does finally come around, but it is near the end. Thankfully, the ending is a happy one and it includes a bittersweet epilogue.
Content alert: In addition to some mild swearing, there are also some sexually intimate scenes.
I really enjoyed the story & the characters were so likable & I rooted for them from the beginning. It was funny, spicy, romantic, emotional but all that led to a HEA. My only complaint would be – GET AN EDITOR, it is so distracting! With that said, I still would highly recommend this read to all historical romance readers!
